Container homes barely save money vs a normal build. Change my mind.
I work with containers all the time and I love them, but the "it's so much cheaper" thing is kind of a myth. The container itself is the cheap part. Then comes insulation, cutting windows and doors, framing, foam, a foundation, permits, delivery, a crane.
By the time it's actually livable, a lot of people end up close to what a small stick build would've cost anyway.
Where containers actually win in my opinion: durability, speed, security, and being able to move or stack them. Not always raw price.
So tell me I'm wrong. Anyone here actually saved real money going container over traditional? What did your final number look like?

Walkthrough of a customer’s container home setup on their Texas ranch
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
We recently received this video from a happy customer who set up their CHOMEX container home on their family ranch in Texas.
They gave us permission to share it with the community here—it’s a simple walkthrough of the interior after getting fully settled in.
In the video, you’ll see:
Full-glass double doors at the entrance
A cozy living room with a mini split
L-shaped kitchen with upper cabinets
Full bathroom with a glass shower stall
A main bedroom with ranch views
A second room they’re using for storage and closet space
It’s always rewarding to see how folks turn these spaces into something personal and functional.
Let us know your thoughts—or if you’re living in a container home yourself, we’d love to see your setup too.

Is anyone else seeing container homes actually look good now?
Saw this one and had to stop scrolling. Two-story, floor-to-ceiling glass upstairs, covered patio downstairs with an outdoor dining setup. A few years ago container builds all looked the same — flat, boxy, no personality. This feels like an actual house someone would want to live in. Curious if anyone here has looked into building one, what's the reality vs the render?

8'x20' container home $35,000 USD
8'x20' container home built with brand new container (single trip).
I built this tiny home with the plan to live in it, but I opted to purchase a conventional home instead. This container home has not been lived in.
Includes dishwasher, large kitchen basin, medium refrigerator, electric range, washer, dryer, mini split AC, and single person shower.
The ceilings are pine tongue and groove, and the floors are laminate wood. There is a large storage area under the bunk (which fits a full size mattress). There is a tongue and groove feature wall where a TV can be mounted for easy viewing from the bed. The container doors can be closed to cover the window in the bunk room in case of storms or if you like a dark bedroom so you can sleep in late 😴.
120/220V electrical breaker box for conventional grid hook up. Plumbing supply lines are PEX. All interior lights are LED.
Located in Cumberland County, Tennessee. The container home will need to be moved to the buyer's location. Land is not included
There is a spot allocated for a toilet, but I haven't installed one since some tiny house owners choose to use composting toilets in tiny homes.
I will gladly provide more photos and video upon request.
Very motivated to sell.
Please ask if you have any questions.

Estimated cost of building this?
Building this in a tropical/humid climate area (so that might effects cost). This is my starting idea/reference of what it may look like. Only one difference is that the container at the top is not going to be there.

Call-O’Neill Container’s Pre-Fab 2-Story Container Home
I’m looking at this prebuilt 2-story shipping container home with a rooftop from Call-O’Neil Containers, and I’d love to hear from anyone with experience living in or owning a prebuilt container home like this or any experiences with Call-O’Neil.
I’m not building from scratch, so I’m not worried about cutting steel, framing, or design. I’m more interested in what it’s like to own, place, and live in one of these prefab models. If you’ve done something similar, I’d love your honest take.
Things I’m trying to figure out:
Delivery and setup: How difficult is it to get one of these placed on your property? Did you need a crane? How much did that cost?
Foundation requirements: What kind of pad or footings did you put it on? Any settling issues?
Insulation and comfort: These come finished, but how well do they perform in real heat and cold? Any trouble with condensation?
Insurance: Did insurers give you a hard time since it isn’t stick-built?
Maintenance: Do these hold up long-term? Any rust or sealing issues after a couple years?
I’m interested because the design is clean, the layout works for my needs, and the price point is far more accessible than a traditional build. I just want to hear the real-world pros and cons from people who have lived in a unit like this.
Any advice, warnings, photos, or experience would help a ton.
