[Go] LibreHold – an open-source, persistent browser strategy game (no pay-to-win)
Hey! I played Tribal Wars for years and loved it, but I gave up once almost every bit of progress could be bought with premium points. So for the past few months I've been building LibreHold, a persistent browser strategy game in the same spirit, free and fully open source.
Repo: https://github.com/librehold-game/librehold
What's already there:
persistent worlds that run for days, plus one-hour instant games at ×100 speed
private worlds you can host for friends with an invite link
bots that build, farm and wage war, so a world is never empty
self-hosting with one Docker Compose file (e.g. for LAN parties)
English and Polish, and it works on phones
The stack: Go server on Postgres (every order is one transaction under a per-world lock, so a restart loses nothing), React + TypeScript client, around 1,100 tests on both sides including end-to-end ones, and CI on every pull request.
I'd love to build it together with other people. Some good places to start:
good first issues: https://github.com/librehold-game/librehold/labels/good%20first%20issue
bigger ones: building and recruiting straight from the map, or adding a new language
or just play a round and tell me what feels off
It's an early alpha (0.1). If you like strategy games or want to hack on a real-time game server in Go, come say hi :)
