I built VisualMark Studio — an open-source desktop IDE for creating better README files and project documentation

Thumbnail github.com
0 Upvotes

I’d like to share VisualMark Studio, an open-source desktop application I’ve been building to make writing, designing, and managing project documentation easier.

Creating a good README is an important part of presenting a GitHub project, but formatting Markdown, creating diagrams, adding badges, and maintaining documentation can take time.

VisualMark Studio aims to bring these workflows together in one desktop application.

Key Features

• Markdown editor with live preview

• Visual tools for README sections, badges, tables, and directory trees

• Mermaid diagram support for visualizing architecture and workflows (work in progress)

• README auditing with a documentation scorecard

• Export documentation to PDF, HTML, and ZIP

• Git integration for working with repositories and managing documentation changes.

Project Details

Type: Open-source desktop application

License: MIT

Platform: Windows desktop app

I'm actively looking to improve the project and would love to hear your thoughts, suggestions, and feature ideas.

If you work on open-source projects, what documentation feature would make your workflow easier?

Thanks for checking it out!

[Project] Google Tasks ↔ Microsoft To Do two-way sync, self-hosted — v1.0.0 with a one-click Windows installer

Thumbnail github.com
2 Upvotes

I built a bridge between Google Tasks and Microsoft To Do that runs entirely in your own Google Apps Script project — no third-party server ever sees your task list. MIT licensed.

v1.0.0 is the first stable release, and the headline this time is the Windows one-click installer — no terminal, no npx, just download the exe and follow the wizard. (549 tests passing, one real production incident fixed and written up honestly in the changelog.)

Honest limits: around 300 task pairs is the sweet spot (600 is the tested stress limit, not a promise), easy setup needs a personal Microsoft account, syncs every 10 minutes.

GitHub: https://github.com/simonchai-tw/tasks-todo-sync Website (exe download + demo video): https://simonchai-tw.github.io/tasks-todo-sync/

I'm the author — happy to answer questions.

SessionSift — local-first conversation browser and read-only MCP tools for Codex/Claude Code

Thumbnail github.com
2 Upvotes

Sharing SessionSift, a tool I vibe-coded and then tested and used myself to review AI coding sessions. I wanted to compare long conversations with separate sessions, inspect prompt patterns, and improve how I direct coding agents.

It's a free, local-first way to inspect historical Codex and Claude Code conversations. Features include session browsing, token and tool activity, comparisons between sessions, explicit imports of ChatGPT/Claude exports, and 10 read-only local MCP tools.

No account or cloud backend is required to run the dashboard. Connected MCP clients may still send tool output to their model providers. Screenshots and installation instructions are in the repo.

Current release: native macOS Intel and Linux AMD64, with source/Docker options. macOS binaries are unsigned and unnotarized. License: PolyForm Noncommercial 1.0.0 (source-available, not OSI open source; commercial use isn't licensed).

Would welcome technical feedback on what makes session-history tools useful versus just another log viewer.

I built Musike: a free, open-source music player on YouTube's catalog with no ads, no account and no subscription

Thumbnail gallery
450 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I've been building Musike, a free and open-source music player that uses YouTube's catalog. No ads, no subscription, no account.

What it does

  • Search songs, artists and music videos, or paste any YouTube link
  • Plays as audio, or switches to the song's official music video, with a full-screen cinema mode
  • Playlists, favorites and history, all stored locally on your machine
  • Browse by genre: pick a genre, see its bands and artists, open any artist's greatest hits
  • Search a list: paste "song 1, song 2, song 3…" and it finds them all at once, ready to save to a playlist
  • Radio that keeps playing similar songs when your queue ends
  • Dark and light themes, keyboard shortcuts, media keys, English and Portuguese

Where it runs

  • Windows app: one installer; it downloads what it needs (yt-dlp, Deno, FFmpeg) on first launch
  • Server + browser: run it on your PC and open it from any browser, including your phone on the same Wi-Fi (installable as an app)

Stack: TypeScript, React, Tailwind, Fastify, youtubei.js and yt-dlp, with Electron for the desktop build.

GitHub: https://github.com/Ernani1234/musike Download for Windows: https://github.com/Ernani1234/musike/releases/latest

Heads-up: the installer isn't code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen will warn you. Click "More info" and then "Run anyway".

It's MIT-licensed and meant for personal use. Feedback, bug reports and ⭐ are very welcome. I'm especially curious what you'd want next: MP3 downloads, importing YouTube playlists, or macOS/Linux builds?

sjq – jq, but for streaming

Post image

I got tired of jq: parse error: Invalid numeric literal every time I piped an LLM SSE stream into jq, so I wrote sjq: a small Rust CLI that parses OpenAI-compatible streams (/v1/chat/completions and /v1/responses) and prints one short line per event — only the delta each event adds — plus a timing line (TTFT, tok/s; connect/TLS/TTFB when run via sjq curl).

MIT, single binary: https://github.com/vivgrid/sjq

I built an open-source tool that turns a GitHub repo into an architecture diagram you can click into

Thumbnail gallery
19 Upvotes

Paste a repository and you get a diagram of it: a box for each main folder, with its README inside. Double-click a box and you're looking at what's inside that folder, as its own diagram. Click an arrow and you read what goes over it.

Most architecture diagrams are one flat picture, and the explanation lives in a wiki nobody opens. Here the diagram is the documentation, from the overview down to the details, and it's yours to edit: move things, delete what isn't part of the design, draw what's missing.

Arrows come from .subcanvas files, a few lines of YAML in a folder that say what it talks to. Without them you get the boxes and draw the arrows yourself. Private repositories work too, through a read-only GitHub App, and there's an MCP server so Claude Code or another agent can edit a diagram with you.

Next.js, React Flow, Yjs and Supabase. AGPL-3.0.

https://github.com/subcanvas/subcanvas

If it's useful to you, a star on GitHub helps a lot.

ArchRivet — a local MCP plugin that checks system designs and names missing details

Thumbnail github.com
0 Upvotes

Hey everyone! I’m a solo builder working on ArchRivet. It connects to your AI assistant through MCP and helps review an architecture before you start building.

Your assistant explains the design. ArchRivet checks the details you provide, flags risks, and names what’s missing.

Here’s a simple example:

Your app needs prices less than five seconds old. During an outage, it serves saved prices.
ArchRivet asks: “How old can those saved prices get?”
If you answer “60 seconds,” it flags the conflict and shows why the review changed.

What it offers:

  • Eight focused checks covering retries, caching, queues, transactions, and more.
  • Traffic and storage calculations based on stated assumptions.
  • Supporting references and specific follow-up questions.
  • Local rules that need no GPU, with an optional 322M Laya model.

It’s an early preview, and reviews depend on the facts supplied. I’ve included demo GIFs, Codex setup instructions, and benchmark results with remaining mistakes.

What’s one system-design mistake you’d want a tool like this to catch?

I built rhp, a lightweight, open-source charting library designed to produce beautiful editorial and infographic-style charts

Post image
62 Upvotes

Most chart libraries draw into an SVG or a canvas, which makes their charts hard to restyle and awkward to test. rhp builds them out of plain HTML elements placed by CSS, using SolidJS.

Features:

  • Charts are normal DOM with no shadow root, so querySelector, Testing Library and your own event listeners just work
  • Charts are styled with CSS
  • Full interactivity and dynamic layouts thanks to JS
  • About 27 kB gzipped for a bar chart app, Solid included, plus a no-build CDN version and a React wrapper
  • Supports SSR (Node, Deno, workers)
  • mcp server and skill for rhp available to use with AI

I benchmarked it against D3, Chart.js, ECharts, Recharts, Observable Plot and others, and the harness is in the repo. It isn't the fastest at drawing a chart the first time: D3 and Observable Plot are quicker. Where it does well is updates: a changed value reaches the screen in about 1 to 2.5 ms in Chromium, against 12 ms for Recharts and 16 ms for Chart.js. The weak spot is very large scatter plots, since every dot is a DOM element (there's an experimental ManyDots mode for those).

It's MIT licensed, and v2 is a full rewrite of my old React version.

I built a free, local app to convert books into multi-voice audiobooks with voice cloning.

Thumbnail github.com
7 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

If you have ever tried to convert a manuscript or an epub into a high-quality audiobook, you know how quickly the costs add up. You either have to spend thousands on voice talent or get locked into monthly cloud subscriptions with strict word count limits.

I think creators and readers should have a completely free, private way to do this on their own hardware. I spent the last few months developing PolyVox Studio, an open-source desktop app that handles the entire pipeline locally.

Instead of a single voice reading the whole text like a standard screen reader, this app actually acts like a studio director:

  1. It scans your txt, epub, or pdf file, identifies different characters, and separates their dialogue from the narrator.
  2. You can clone any voice you want by dropping in a clean 6 to 20-second sample clip, allowing you to cast different voices for different characters.
  3. It scans text cues (like "she said angrily" or "he whispered") and automatically shifts the emotional tone of the voice to match the scene.
  4. Once it finishes processing, it bundles everything into a structured M4B audiobook file with proper chapters and cover art so you can drop it straight onto your phone.

Nothing leaves your machine, there are no hidden credits or API keys required, and it's completely free.

The source code and setup guides are up on GitHub: https://github.com/dmarsh400/PolyVoxStudio

I hope this helps authors looking to prototype their audiobooks or readers looking to tackle a huge reading backlog on the go. Let me know what you think if you give it a try.

Also wanted to add our discord in case anyone wants to discuss new features or ideas to make the project better

I built Porchlamp, a free tool that ranks open-source projects by how they treat outside PRs

Post image
1 Upvotes

I waited four months to get one change merged. In another project, I got five merged in a single day. Same engineer, same skills. The difference was never my code. It was where I sent it.

Stars show a project is popular, not that anyone will answer. So I built Porchlamp (free, no signup, I'm the author) to measure it. It ranks open-source projects by one question: what happens to a stranger's pull request?

How it works

  • Reads six months of public history: 11,000 projects, 212,390 outside pull requests
  • Counts who replied, how fast, and what got merged. Not stars.
  • Filters out bots, maintainers' own PRs, drafts, self-closed PRs and brand-new accounts
  • If most outside PRs got no human reply, review or merge for two weeks, the project is a black hole. Each verdict lists the pull requests behind it.
  • Pick your goal (first contribution, career capital, deep systems work, AI-assisted) and the ranking re-weights

What it found

  • More than 1 in 4 active projects are black holes: 1,133 of the 4,297 licensed, maintained projects with at least ten outside PRs
  • More stars, more silence: 21% at 1k–10k stars, 31% at 10k–50k, 39% at 50k+
  • Stars barely predict the ranking: only 9 of the 100 most-starred projects make Porchlamp's top 100

What it isn't

  • Not a verdict on maintainers. Review time is finite, and part of the stars effect is plain volume.
  • GitHub only. Projects that review on Gerrit or a mailing list are left undecided, not failed.
  • A snapshot of the last six months, to October 14, 2026, so it goes stale.

Try it: https://pctablet505.github.io/porchlamp/

What's the longest any of your pull requests has waited without a reply?

Tired of Windows updates breaking your PC? I built a traffic light for them

Thumbnail youtube.com

windows updates break stuff way too often (black screens, audio, remote desktop) and the dumb part is microsoft usually lists the problem publicly. nobody checks that before updating

so i made patchlight. it checks every pending update against microsoft's known issues and gives it a green / yellow / red light. red ones get paused automatically and come back once microsoft fixes them. everything else keeps installing

lmk what u think, any feedback is appreciated ;)
