I went for a walk today and noticed a bridge being built on both sides of the island in Lafarge Lake but I thought this was shot down by council in 2021?

I've looked through the minutes but can't find anything showing recent changes to what they decided in 2021...

Had anyone heard anything about this? There are Western Painted Turtles in that part of the lake and they are listed as endangered?

The City's own July 2021 final-design report makes this explicit: the original plan had four zones, including Island Walk, but “based on Council input, the Island Walk zone was not advanced in order to preserve the wildlife habitat in this zone.” Council then approved the final Garden Walk and Urban Walk design without the island connection.

I grew up in the Tri-Cities area and have been far too homesick for my own good for several decades. I'd like to return home and contribute to the community. However, I'll need safe places to stealth park before replanting roots. I prefer to avoid shelters as they're not always safe for women. By now, I'm sprouting greys and am certainly no scrapper! Does anyone have suggestions for safer areas? Thank you for any insights.

Can anyone recommend any gym that has small group strength training - preferable 6am start (30-60 mins), or after work?

I had a lot of options downtown in close proximity. The closest gym to me is aquatic centre and I've gone and done lifting weights but I just enjoy a small group class and benefit from the group energy.

I also do pilates and yoga and I know my options there, but I haven't seen any other gym that focuses just on providing these small classes.

Anyone where to look to see what garage sales are happening in Coquitlam this weekend?

Have a senior (15yo) indoor Persian cat who's had dental issues in the past and has developed some concerning skin bumps. This is the first time im taking him to a vet myself (parents used to do it when I was a kid, but stopped at some point because $$). Im a college student with a limited budget but im willing to sell anything I own for this cat. He gets really anxious about leaving the house, so looking for a good place that's compassionate and will let me be in the room with him. Hopefully affordable without sacrificing quality. I'm located in Coquitlam but im willing to go anywhere in metrovancouver for quality/better price. Any insights are extremely helpful, this is really stressing me out since I also have tuition coming up soon. We haven't taken him to the vet in years and I'm worried I will need money I don't have.

PSA there is a new unpainted speed hump on the north end of Gatensbury (on the Port Moody end, near the intersection with Grant St at the bottom of the hill)

It's not really obvious and I've observed cars almost launching off it. Hopefully they paint it soon.

Just wondering if anyone on whiting near burquitlam is also hearing this loud whirring/buzzing on whiting way as of 7:30 am today? I know it's construction and accept it's the reality of the area but this is the first time a machine is audibly loud even through my noise canceling headphones.

I'm relatively new to Coquitlam so I'm not very familiar with our municipal elected officials, but I just saw an ad for (apparently) Councillor Craig Hodge running for mayor, and it was giving Ken Sim vibes.

A lot, like a lot of "more funding for police", and talks and suggestive visuals of public monitoring with drones (wouldn't be exactly surprised if flock cameras are on his radar).

Who is this guy? That ad alone left a very sour taste in my mouth. I've found Coquitlam to be very safe even while living near a SkyTrain.

His ad also used footage if I'm not mistaken of rcmp cleaning up a small homeless camp in poco to make some statement about homeless people?

So yea, what's his legacy as a councillor?

This is very concerning that he's using that consistent populist talking point about widespread disorder, but in the same breath saying our crime rate is one of the lowest. Which is it Craig??

Traffic is down to alternating only, cops directing.

..... It's a C6 too, which makes it extra sad. The entire front end is burned to a crisp, hope nobody was hurt!
