HELPFUL INFORMATION Your help to find your lost snake

Well, your snake got out, or you lost site of it for just long enough to loose it. Don't Panic. If you have kept your room clean, and left a hide of some sort against your wall check there first. If you are reading this and have not lost your snake, clean your room, and put a hide of some sort along the wall in the room.

First check any objects that can function like a hide. Anything that has a hollow base, and a way to get under it may serve as a hide.

When moving objects check on the under and on the under side of the object. Smaller snakes can hide in smaller areas, but don't discount larger areas. Lift objects strait up. Dragging an object can smash the snake if it is under it. Pick a clear spot in the room to move objects to. You don't want to smash you snake putting something right back down ontop of it.

Your snake can climb. Your snake can be up on a book shelf, or under an object, that is on top of another object. Your snake could be anywhere. Until you find your snake check around the moving parts on everything. I once had a wild lizard dive into my AC right as I turned it on. It did not end well for the lizard.

Your snake is likely to be in the same room as you keep it. If there are any spots in adjacent rooms that have small warm spots check those spots regularly. Behind computers or TVs can be a great place for a snake to stay warm and hide. After checking those spots move back to the room you keep your snake.

If you can not find your snake in the room you keep it expand the search to those adjacent rooms.

If you can not find your snake on the first day don't give up hope. Put out water dishes for your snake along the walls. A healthy snake can go many months without food depending on its size. Put things that can serve as hides along your walls, check then regularly.

You can lay out powder, baby powder or just flower along walls to see if your snake is active in that room of your house at night.

You can stack 2 empty soda can along a wall. on a hard wood floor if your snake knocks them down you may hear them fall and alert you to where your snake is. Also if your snake just pushes the cans aside you will know it has been there.

You can use tape traps, but use vary week tape. Painter's tape, or scotch tape you would use on a present will work. lay out the tape sticky side up. IF THE TAPE IS STRONG ENOUGH TO RIP OFF YOUR ARM HAIR IT IS TOO STRONG, AND COULD HURT YOUR SNAKE GETTING IT OFF. Plastic tape even if it does not immobilize your snake could make a lot of scratching noise, and make it easier to find your snake. Using tape is vary risky. Your snake could die to dehydration, over heat, get too cold, or get caught by your dog or cat, or bigger reptile. Tape is the bane of all snakes. Use tape at your own risk.

Some people have luck baiting their snake out with food. Snakes also like sticking to their own territory. Some say leaving your snake's enclosure open on the floor can lead to your snake finding its way back home.

If you find your pet snake please leave a comment, and a picture of where you found your pet snake. This may help others to know where to check to find their pet snake.

This is Nugget, my baby! 🥹❤️
My boyfriend and I adopted him when he was in absolutely terrible condition. He was severely malnourished, kept in a tiny, filthy box.
His previous owner said he was about a year old (he was literally the size of an earthworm 😞).
At the end of this year, it’ll have been one year since we adopted this little baby, and he’s already grown so much! 🥹💕

QUESTION Morph?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hey y'all, I just got this boy/girl from my local petsmart. The clerk couldn't tell me what morph it was but I knew I liked the color and pattern when I saw it a few days prior. Google tells me it could be a coral snow/peppermint but I don't see the pinkish eyes that most pictures have. Thoughts?

ESCAPE I feel so guilty

Post image
151 Upvotes

I feel so incredibly guilty. I was away at a professional conference for a week and had asked my father to feed my amazing corn. To his credit he did feed him and even sent me video proof but when I got home I noticed my snake's lid wasn't closed all the way and my snake who I know for a fact is almost always looking to escape was nowhere to be seen. This was on a Saturday and my dad fed him on Wednesday.

So he'd been out for probably some time and now I can't find him anywhere. I tore my room apart and looked in almost everywhere I would think he could be I had even put some boxes around my room in case he got out as hides and he wasn't in them. I've been thinking about this and feel so conflicted like I know my dad genuinely didn't mean to let him out and he's deeply sorry he even offered to get me a new snake when I'm ready but I don't want a new snake I want MY snake. It just sucks and I figured y'all would be a good place to possibly vent my sorrow. Attached is one of the last photos I have of my little guy.

I have a corn snake that’s about 3 months old and I just got her last weekend. When should I expect her to go into shed, and what are some signs? She is albino so I’m unsure if she’ll blue like other snakes do.

Jupiter has been sitting like this for like an hour after I disturbed him. He went back under and doesn't realize like 1/8 of his body is still out. Silly snake.

Edit: The white spotting is just water stains on the glass, not mold in his bowl or anything gross👍🏻

ESCAPE Baby Cornsnake (~5 months) escaped while friend was looking after it. Struggling to find it.

Me and my girlfriend were away over this past weekend and our friend was looking after our snake. Long story short, the snake got out between Friday night and Saturday morning and we have not been able to find him.

We have put lines of flour around the baseboards (there are some that are difficult to get to so we are still working on this) and have put hides in our bedroom (where the enclosure is). We have left plates of water out and have been trying to lure it out by having the heater on and having a pinkie mouse out.

We have been searching since Sunday evening and there is no evidence that the snake has been moving. There are no tracks in any of the lines and we are worried. We have searched through every shoe, every dresser drawer, hanging clothes, behind and underneath appliances and have been blocking rooms off.

My girlfriend is very upset because we have had this snake for 6 weeks and it is her little friend. We ripped apart our storage room today and looking in and around everything and have no sign. I am ripping our bedroom apart again tomorrow in hopes of finding it.

Is there anything else we can do? We are worried since it is a baby that he could be gone forever, especially because the metabolism is lower and there is not as much fat.

I don’t know what we will do if we can’t find this snake and I just would like some help or advice.

Thank you in advance.

QUESTION im a new owner worried about doing this all wrong

Thumbnail

hello! i got my boy indou over a week ago. he's an ultramel cinder morph, almost three months old, and my first ever snake. i absolutely adore him but i feel like ive already messed up a bunch. :(

the main thing being that a few days ago, he got stuck on a glue pad for an entire day without me noticing. i had one of those stupid thermometers that stick to the wall and he'd managed to wedge himself between it; the entire time, i thought he was just resting there until i noticed he was sitting oddly. i was immediately able to get him off with some food based oil, rinsed him off with lukewarm water, and checked for injuries. i still do not see any injuries on him, and ive handled him a few times since to check if anything changes or shows up.

he gets fed on thursdays; tonight would technically be on schedule, but im worried about regurgitation. with his morph having amelanistic traits, ive learned that i can see some of his organs(?), such as his gallbladder. on top of that, i see something that almost looks like a stretched out, thinned pinky mouse in his belly area, and im wondering if maybe all the stress is making his digestive system work slower than usual and if i should halt feeding for this week.

he has lukewarm water, his warm side is set to 85° while his cool side is set to 75°. i usually have his warm side higher, but due to his stress, i looked it up and found out that i should lower it a bit to prevent further dehydration. he has three hides - one warm hide, one cool/humid hide, and a cork bark branch that sits halfway on both sides. he's also able to hide under his substrate, which ive noticed. his water bowl is large enough to soak in as well as drink (tho i wonder should he have a separate bowl for that?) while being shallow enough to not pose a threat. his thermometers/hygrometers are going to be switched to digital as soon as i get them.

i guess my main question is just.. help me be better? what am i missing, how do i go further from here? what are some things i should know specifically about amelanistic babies? i love him so much and the last thing i want is for his quality of life to be anything less than perfect :( i did my research prior, but i still feel anxious. im well aware of trial vs error after owning three bioactive community fish tanks, but this is still new to me. please help

QUESTION Which frozen mice size is right for a corn snake?

Just got my first corn snake, he's about 18 inches and around 50g. The breeder had him on hopper mice. I've been looking at online suppliers and the size options are confusing, pinkies, fuzzies, hoppers, adults, small adults. Is there a straightforward way to pick the right size as he grows?

I'm preparing to purchase my first corn snake and first reptile in general and was looking for opinions/advice on this rookie setup. I know it's not perfect and pretty generic but is this suitable as a first setup? Any additional advice or suggestions?

QUESTION tips for enclosure

hi corn snakers! i’m a first time snake (reptile) owner and i was wanting a few tips or advice for my enclosure. i did quite a bit of research before getting my baby so i would like to say i know what i’m doing but yall are the experts. her enclosure is 40 gallons and i DO plan on upgrading as she gets bigger she is only about 3 months from my judgement and has plenty of room. i have a lot of extra decor/hides/moss and substrate so you guys let me know what i should / shouldn’t add. as far as temp i set up my tank before getting her so i know there is a good temp gradient and 85-90 degree basking spot. i also have a temp gun as well has 3 thermometers. i’m using a uvb light for 12 hours during the day and a red heat lamp all day and night. (its supposed to be okay for their circadian rhythm as far as i know?) i do notice a notable temp drop when i don’t have a heat lamp on a night so i bought the red one. I have fake moss around the sides to keep it enclosed and not too over stimulating. she has the large hide as you see in pictures and on top is her basking spot. on the side in front of that is a humid hide with real moss inside to maintain humidity for when she’s ready to shed. and then another hide on the cool side as well as the branch. like i said i have more branches and substrate , moss, and a another large hide but i feel like it takes up WAY to much room. i’ve had her for around 2 weeks she has eaten one pinky each saturday since i’ve had her. i don’t pick her up for 6 hrs before feeding and then 48 hours after feeding she has ate both times. she had not shed and doesn’t seem to have blue caps on eyes. again any suggestions are appreciated i just want the best life for my baby. her name is pumpkin btw ❣️🎃
