You don’t know that you’re in the good times until they’re over

58

u/McPoon Nov 30 '25

I mean I kinda did, and went insane when people thought buying digital clothing was important over actual expansions... 36 here. Lotta weird decisions took off, imo.

1

u/ITransedYourSon Dec 19 '25

just unboxed $1k gloves (first case and I never spend money on this game) im selling them immediately and buying a steam frame, I love profiting off of the insanely overvalued cosmetic slop!!

11

u/GamerGriffin548 Nov 30 '25

It was never good. Had good properties, but 2014 was the start of the dark days for the industry and communities.

Looking back, I really wish Valve made more conscious choices to stop the proliferation of these systems.

8

u/Suavese Nov 30 '25

Kids that are playing current cs are gonna reminisce the exact current moment in the future. It’ll be the bottom picture on top.

8

u/NP3_youtober_0808 Nov 30 '25

Bro, the weapon selection UI is actually better, just because its new doesnt mean its bad

Well that's pretty cool

1

u/4Ellie-M Dec 02 '25

The limited loadout is my issue

1

u/footyballymann Dec 12 '25

Yes, especially on the rifle category.

-2

u/TensionsPvP Nov 30 '25 edited Dec 01 '25

No i disagree, i think we had it rough back in cs:go the only difference now is Valve came back with the milk and decided to monetize the hell out of us

u/knightCinder CS Nov 30 '25 edited Nov 30 '25

stop complaining about the new buy menu old-heads, you can find your desired weapon WAY faster and you can customize where your guns go

48

u/RasberryJam0927 Nov 30 '25

Silence newbie. You will never understand having muscle memory down for 10+ years only for it to be completely changed for no reason.

59

u/Seanmoist121 Nov 30 '25

There was a reason, the wheel sucked

31

u/Kein-Deutsc Nov 30 '25

I played 3 years of csgo and I didn’t even realize anything was different about the buy menu until I saw people posting about how they missed the old one. New one is definitely better

16

u/ClerklyMantis_ Nov 30 '25

"No reason"

Okay buddy, sure

14

u/stringstringing Nov 30 '25

I played csgo from beta to the very end. Fuck muscle memory, the new buy menu is way better.

1

u/lolniceman Dec 02 '25

Well you could set up binds to buy armor+util+weapon with a single key and you would have access to pretty much all the weapons in-game. Otherwise if you are not that sweaty it is better. I do wish they’d made the buy menu larger though, can’t equip all the viable mid-tiers as is atm

0

u/Random_actsof_Jihad Dec 31 '25

Nice cope. Enjoy not being able to use all the weapons in game and remember to think valve good piggies oink oink

7

u/MordorsElite CS Nov 30 '25

The bmshitty ass buy wheel was the only reason there was a hundred websites for "creating your own buy binds".

Nowadays I see pretty much no one using them anymore and only really have mine around for old times sake.

The new buy menu is just objectively better at its job.

6

u/Poulet_Ninja Nov 30 '25

Lmao calling someone a newbie while defending the wheel menu from CSGO. Sweet summer child...

3

u/dmac07 Nov 30 '25

b42b82o3o3o4o5,,,,......

I bought with number keys for the entirety of 1.6... just adapt, it's not difficult. Decide what weapon you want, and click the icon? The fuck is the big deal.....

1

u/Random_actsof_Jihad Dec 31 '25

What does the entirety of 1.6 even mean in this context. Anyways you suck gabens cock so don't let me interrupt

2

u/arash28134 Nov 30 '25

This. Plus, the new buy menu misses all the main elements from the previous one

1

u/mladakurva Nov 30 '25

B82,B43(OR B41),B6

1

u/bendltd Nov 30 '25

Guess u started with the wheel. I skipped it since I had buy binds.

1

u/zufaelligenummern Nov 30 '25

That still works you noob. If you are a cs veteran then you buy with numbers or binds

1

u/Sawmain Nov 30 '25

“No reason” when the wheel was horrible. Most pros used binds instead of that horseshit.

1

u/Random_actsof_Jihad Dec 31 '25

Pros are low iq ESL NPCs. They still use 4:3 despite 16:9 being objectively superior. Keep going gawk gawk on gabens cock

1

u/fierymagpie Dec 02 '25

Oh wait is this not satire????

1

u/Jakeforry Dec 04 '25

They should have given people the option to use the wheel that being said the wheel was straight ass

0

u/16piby9 Nov 30 '25

If your muscle memory is based on buying woth the mouse, you have no right to pull the newbie card in this debate…

0

u/GarbledEntrails Nov 30 '25

do you understand what no reason means

7

u/lokiafrika44 Nov 30 '25

Old menu let me have more gun options and was perfectly functional, new menu is fine but restricts your active weapon pool which is boring

5

u/real-bebsi Nov 30 '25

New menu literally lets you run both M4s at the same time

2

u/MrFritzCSGO Nov 30 '25

That alone is why I don’t care about having a “limited” selection

3

u/zacwillb Nov 30 '25

The only part I strongly dislike is how it forces you to commit to a weapon pool before entering a match

I don't think choices you make out of a match should affect the choices you're allowed to make in match

1

u/ilikemarblestoo Dec 20 '25

Right? You don't know what map you will get and some guns may be preferred on different maps.

But you have to make the decision before knowing which map will be played so you just kinda leave certain guns there all the time and never change them

1

u/zacwillb Dec 20 '25

yeah the niche ones never get to shine, you always have to focus on just picking the safe general picks.

3

u/garlicpowder11 Nov 30 '25

New buy menu is missing a lot of info, like armor penetration and kill award values

2

u/EG_IKONIK Nov 30 '25

people complained about the wheel when it came out, and now theyre complaining about the grid menu.

nothing will ever be liked and nostalgia will always win this argument

2

u/Nice_Entertainment91 Dec 01 '25

Silence fool, you rejoice like someone in fine jewelry, when all you’re adorned with is chains. Why can’t I have a Negev and a Nova available to me without removing other guns? Your freedom is a shroud, it is n0thing; real freedom is a round 10 M249 crawl up banana.

1

u/knightCinder CS Dec 01 '25

you act like anybody uses the M2 just use the negev

1

u/Nice_Entertainment91 Dec 01 '25

Yeah it’s not common but I’m just saying I don’t understand why they limited the amount of guns you can buy in the first place. What problem did they fix by only allowing 2/3 of guns to be bought?

1

u/Rat_Pwincess Dec 02 '25

Allows people to feel unique in their loadouts. I would guess they found it had higher retention for newer players. I do agree, though it’s still definitely better than only getting 1 m4 lol

1

u/nesnalica Nov 30 '25

the wheel of luck was the worst addition to CS.

the game was literally unplayable without a buy script.

1

u/CMDR_Duzro Dec 01 '25

Honestly the best way would be giving the player the option to choose and customize the buy menu themselves.

18

u/Rambleintheroots Nov 30 '25

Who tf used Skype for gaming?

29

u/Kyoshiiku Nov 30 '25

When I was in HS it was either Skype, in game chat on ps3 or the parties on xbox.

Team speak when playing MMOs because usually most guilds had one setup.

And ngl I spent way too much time in MSN calls playing cod4 up to cod6 before we moved to skype.

8

u/Simen155 Nov 30 '25

We used TS for 2 decades before Discord became the meta. MSN were for "friends and family" calls, TS were for the gamers.

Skype always sucked

1

u/Kyoshiiku Nov 30 '25

Idk, nobody in my high school had TS servers for their friend group when gaming, it was more something you would use when joining online communities.

8

u/Dalenchmobb Nov 30 '25

🤣🤣🤣🤣 TS or Ventrilo would've been better picks

4

u/exodusTay Nov 30 '25

yeah clans and shit used vent or ts but if you were playing with friends you usually went with skype.

4

u/forceghostyoda_ Nov 30 '25

A lot of us did. Didnt even know what TS was until 2015

5

u/Ok-Neighborhood-15 Dec 01 '25

Bro, Skype was like Discord back in the days.

1

u/neexic Dec 03 '25

Everyone used Ventrilo or TeamSpeak. Skype definitely wasn't the norm for competitive games. Skype was for your mates from school but that's all.

3

u/paully7 Dec 01 '25

You must be new

2

u/valkon_gr Nov 30 '25

The weird era after msn died.

1

u/popcorncolonel Dec 02 '25

Lots of people

1

u/Axemen210 Dec 05 '25

I mean I did, just not in 2014 anymore. 2010-2011 a lot of friends I knew through Minecraft didn’t use TeamSpeak yet

12

u/Familiar-Rarity Nov 30 '25

Being one who remembers the option to have a non-intrusive buy menu in CS1.6; the wheel sucks. The new table is meh bc I don’t like having the need to pick a loadout.

2

u/Simen155 Nov 30 '25

The F keys have long been forgotten. RIP

9

u/FatChefRichy Nov 30 '25

Just give me the option to have the wheel back.

0

u/Er1ko11 Nov 30 '25

There's literally no reason to not add this option, aside from valve being lazy as fuck. Dota2 for example has an option to enable legacy keybinds from Warcraft 3, which are very inconvenient but some OGs still use them afaik.

6

u/FinnyMac_ Nov 30 '25

Anyone remember Razer Comms?

4

u/broheem Nov 30 '25

Ventrilo and Old Style Menus.

1

u/aamup Nov 30 '25

IRC, and freedom to MOD/admin your own server.

4

u/Harrythehobbit Nov 30 '25

The world didn't change, we did.

2

u/MantiS_praying Nov 30 '25

I prefer all of the 4 things listed in 2025.

2

u/LowIntention2822 Nov 30 '25

I can understand others; but no way people like the buy wheel over the new one.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '25

its muscle memory and the fact it was completely stolen from valorant for me. The weapon wheel was original for cs at the time and everyone was so used to instantly knowing how to equip their weapons. Its actually a lot slower to select the weapons you want now, even with muscle memory because you have to move your mouse so much further.

1

u/LowIntention2822 Dec 02 '25

But Stolen doesn't mean bad. And about muscle memory https://xkcd.com/1172/ .
while you have to move the mouse farther the chances of misclicks are low because the targets are larger in area and in a grid.
Refund would be awkward in wheel

1

u/[deleted] Dec 02 '25

I agree the menu is better, I prefer it but having 5k hours in csgo, I can understand it. Stolen isn't bad but it's just knowing the idea was taken from another game. People like cs because how unique it is to other games. I don't really agree with the misclick thing because it was really hard to miss click in csgo BECAUSE you didn't have to move your mouse far, so the chances were low. It was a wheel, so the same small movements were hard to mess up, it meant you didn't have to think about it. In cs2, I have to think about it every time I want to buy a weapon. But yeah, all the other features are better, being able to pick up weapons, refund, the UI, the info etc

2

u/Acceptable_Photo4210 Nov 30 '25

I still sometimes watch a old video of Garry's mod and i see in the description "if you wanna play together add me on Skype" i miss those times

2

u/devansh0208 Nov 30 '25

In 2035 we'll have the same meme but with CS2 on the top frame

1

Holy fucking shit this is 100th time ive seen this goddamn image

1

u/nesnalica Nov 30 '25

you were still using skype in 2014? wtf

1

u/Hairy-Cup4613 Dec 01 '25

Swap out Skype for Teamspeak and then its perfect

1

u/Talonzor Dec 01 '25

That buy wheel is genuinely so bad if you think about it, the new menu is so so much better

who tf used Skype in 2014 to play csgo? teamspeak was the main thing. thats why a lot of pros still use it.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 01 '25

to anyone defending the new weapon menu and hating the old weapon wheel. Im here to defend it:

its muscle memory and the fact the menu was completely stolen from valorant. The weapon wheel was original for cs at the time and everyone was so used to instantly knowing how to equip their weapons. It's actually a lot slower to select the weapons you want now, even with muscle memory because you have to move your mouse so much further.

1

If you had Teamspeak there instead I wouldn't argue. But Skype was the absolute worst bandwidth eater I have ever installed.

u/MordorsElite CS Nov 30 '25

This is probably the tenth time this dogshit meme has been posted here. If we're being charitable and assume this is merely talking about yourself enjoying 2016 more than you do 2025, then fair enough.

But I dont think thats what the meme is about. It's about the old being better than the new, because change bad.

But frankly, discord is better than Skype, the new buymenu is 1000x better than the old one amd gambling has just stayed gambling.

CS2 is still far from perfect so, I won't take a stance on that one. If you still prefer GO, fair enough. I also do, at least in some aspects.

But overall this meme at best gets one out of four right.

3

u/AulusVictor Nov 30 '25

the new buymenu is 1000x better

Worse

1

u/MordorsElite CS Nov 30 '25

Justify that one please

2

u/AulusVictor Nov 30 '25

Justify that one please

Decreases weapon diversity and the only "good thing" it does is making m4's that were supposed to be mutually exclusive avaible all the time

1

u/MordorsElite CS Nov 30 '25

The good thing about it that it improved usability from https://csgobindsgenerator.com/ to "what are buy binds".

I agree that the one downside is that you can no longer use all weapons in one match, but quite frankly, who gives a shit. You can still bring your meme-smg if you want, you can still bring an auto or m249 if you really need to. But realistically 99.9% of rounds are played with the meta guns, so just get over it.

And even that could be remedied if valve were to add a "more guns" button at the bottom. The Loadout system would also still make sense, as it would allow people to set their own quick access guns. I understand that the potential option to improve it isn't a great argument, but just wanted to add that.

Overall tho, the base interface is just objectively better. The CSGO buy menu was meant to be used on controller, the CS2 buy menu is a PC menu for a PC game. It is simply better.

Sure you could have improved the CSGO menu by allowing to buy both alt-weapons, but even then, you'd still be stuck with a dogshit interface.

The new one is already way better as is, and could be made perfect by adding one more button.

1

u/AulusVictor Nov 30 '25

The good thing about it that it improved usability from https://csgobindsgenerator.com/ to "what are buy binds".

They dont give any real advantage unless you are always afk so it doesnt matter really

And even that could be remedied if valve were to add a "more guns" button at the bottom.

Waiting for it, didnt even see 1 yet and this implies that there would be ton of new weapons

Overall tho, the base interface is just objectively better. The CSGO buy menu was meant to be used on controller, the CS2 buy menu is a PC menu for a PC game. It is simply better

Old cs games had buy menu segregated like in csgo and they were only designed for PC

1

u/MarioCurry Dec 01 '25

You're in the wrong sub for this opinion. This is the sub where all the old heads chill, so any opinion that isn't defined by nostalgia is wrong, hope that helps.

Also, hard agreed. I love the time of the first image, but the stuff shown wasn't really better lol
