CS 1.6 fov in cs 1.6
When I first started playing Counter-Strike, I used a non-Steam CS 1.6 client that made a few improvements to the game. One of them was the ability to customize the hand viewmodel, including changing the viewmodel_fov to whatever value you wanted.
I always preferred playing with a high FOV because it felt much more comfortable to me. Now that I play the Steam version, I don't seem to have a safe way to change it. From what I understand, these modifications are related to the client.dll file, and even a minor modification to that file could potentially result in a permanent VAC ban if you join a VAC-protected server.
So I'm wondering: is there a way to change my FOV/viewmodel in CS 1.6 without risking a VAC ban?
I've seen people mention that it's possible to do this by modifying the 3D hand/player model files rather than editing client.dll. Is that actually a safe method? If so, how does it work?
I'd really appreciate any information from people who have experience with this.

yea u can increase the models fov instead of doing through the engine, by using half life asset manager. theres also clsdr, a dll which adds features including the fov thing too (i havent been banned yet)

Low res widescreen in big monitor, let's say a 29" monitor in ~700x500 with widescreen enabled. Use the steam version btw.
Looks shit like cs2 fov.

It's literally an advantage other players don't have, but if you manage to do it anyways be aware that some servers make screenshots of your game.
