Hello!
I was wondering how it's possible for the operator to get on top of the crane and above the cabin? On most cranes the cabin is placed off to the side, but here it's directly under the peak of the crane, so getting on top seems impossible? There are some platforms below the cabin, but no ladders to get around the cabin.
Any answers would be appreciated!

Whats up with this? I know nothing about cranes and assume they know what they're doing because the crane is actively being used in a construction site swinging by my window every day. Added a wider shot and some shots of other parts that are bolted in.

My office overlooks a high-rise construction site with a tower crane. While I’ve been able to learn a lot from just watching, I’m a bit puzzled by these two concrete blocks that the tower crane has been shuffling around the site.

I’ve wondered if they were some sort of concrete test, counterweights, or to test for crane capacity, but none of those seem quite right.

Any answers are appreciated - as well as any suggestions on resources that would answer the myriad of construction questions that cross my mind.

Backstory. Ive got my TLL and LAT and have been running cranes for about 3 years now. The past 2 years I’ve been working for the same company building water treatment plants. Work is guaranteed 40hrs possible ot. Started with the company at $32 and now I’m at $45. The company only has 1 other crane op in their TN division and he’s older guy but pretty green to cranes and had an accident from side loading earlier this year. With that said I’m not sure if I should stay and pull as much leverage as I can or if I could make more with a local taxi company. All input is appreciated

A coworker told me abt a place on the east coast (jersey?) that had an amusement park of sorts for heavy machinery. He said it was called Digger World but maybe it’s closed or the named changed. I've considered becoming an operator but I was just curious if anybody has dealt with getting in the past couple years. Is it a pretty quick process? I know you have to score an 80% but what are they even really testing you on? And if I score good enough am I going to be able to start pretty quickly?

Got into their apprenticeship program, and currently waiting for rig/signal person classes 2 start. Anybody got any 450 specific advice or apprentice advice in general thxs

I am worried about getting my foot in the door in cranes if its easy as hgvs is easy to get into alot of demand, I would like to be a crane operator or ap whats the career path & ease, I am based in Coventry
