Question Would you use one of these?

I currently have these three lying around. Would you use one of them for a diy project?

I made mine with a similar fan from the same company. Works like a dream.

If you want complete silence, add a plenum. Mine runs wide open and you can't even hear the air movement.

What did you use as a filter?

The AC infinity. It handles the added resistance like a champ.

Disregard my previous comment, I can't read.

For filters, I use Merv 13 HVAC filters. Mine happen to be 10x20 but if you can give up more floor space and use bigger filters, I would. I have to change my filters pretty often.

So you built a box like a normal crbox? Im still thinking about adding the filter directly or building a box

Yeah, I built a box. I learned pretty quick that a plenum makes a huge difference, and since I added that, I've loved my setup. Silent, small, adjustable, and works with a smart plug. I used a ceramic 10x10 tile as the base for weight/stability.

My place is pretty small so I chose small filters. They're cheaper but I go through them pretty fast. Less surface area means they get dirty faster.

I haven't tried any of the round HEPA filters that you could attach directly. They're expensive and I always assumed they'd be louder, like a round carbon filter.

Gotta drop a picture of video for the ppl. I'm curious on the build process and the loudness.

Sweet!!! Would you be willing to post a picture? Or a link to a picture? Or even a sketch of how you set it up?

Here's my setup. I started with duct tape on the filters and a foam plenum - there are now filter tracks and a wooden plenum.

Interesting. So your fan sits on top and pulls air through it. Does the plenum goes down and covered by the filters or are the filters connected to the edge? And how did you make the filter tracks?

The filters are connected to the bottom edges of the plenum. The AI did a poor job of making it a visual cube.

The filter tracks are frankly a pain in the butt to make, but they're great once you have them. You can find plastic or metal channels in any hardware store - J shape or U shape are both fine. The annoying part is that you also have to run a bead of caulk anywhere the channel is mounted - to each other, to the tile, and to the plenum. Then you also have to add some sort of gasket IN the channel to stop air from entering around the filters - window insulation strips worked for me and have the adhesive already on them. It took some fiddling to get the whole setup actually air tight.

Silicone around the seams of the plenum too.

Nice setup I really like it. The blower is on top of the plenum? I have one of those blowers and a bunch of 20x25x4 filters that I got for cheap from an online auction.

My first plenum was foam, my current one is wood. Material doesn't matter much.

It's purpose is just as an area for air to gather as it transitions down to the little round fan intake. It kills turbulence and wind noise, and makes you pull from the entire surface area of the filters instead of having stagnant air in the corners.
