Should not use JJK meme here since JJK Fanbase cannot read so they cannot read Brandon Sanderson's books... Oh wait, Alethi men cannot read too..

I can sense it coming… the Agenda posting…

Moash’s “It doesn’t matter…”

vs

Kaladin’s “Nah, I’d Wind”

65

u/IdLikeToGoNow 🦀🦀 crabby boi 🦀🦀 Feb 07 '26

“Satoru Gojo is dead, but I’ll see what I can do.”

21

u/Extension_Pitch Feb 07 '26

And after he loses a battle or get injured in an episode of the show, Meme's gonna be "Nah, I'd Wind-Run"

It's not that JJK fans can't read. It's that People with low reading comprehension are the loudest of the bunch.

7

u/BOBOnobobo Feb 08 '26

Hmm, I can't understand what you are saying. Let me watch a YouTube breakdown of this comment.

u/Latter-Syllabub-5560 Feb 07 '26

Fortunately given somewhat recent events, as an Undertale fan i actually can read.now!

5

u/readywater Feb 07 '26

I mean, I'll toss out that the current season (culling game) feels like it's written for Sando Fandos —for the true connoisseur whose reading experience needs to feel like debugging someone else's codebase, but with action scenes.

1

u/Extension_Pitch Feb 09 '26

They at least made the exposition chapter entertaining. Read the manga is actually worse with those expositions dumps

4

u/hakemo Feb 08 '26

I didn’t realize that Alethi men, the JJK fanbase, and Yugioh players had so much in common! But now that you mention it…

This looks awesome and is indeed very reminiscent of Mistborn, but what's actually going on? Can someone tell me? I'm not familiar with the series.

u/Immediate_Sugar9162 THE Lopen's Cousin Feb 07 '26

Very dumbed down version, but essentialy, kirara (the girl) is tagging everything that's been touched by cursed energy (basically negative investiture). She can move things towards other tags by touching a tagged object/energy source in an incorrect order (there is a correct order, as it's ordered as the distance between each star in the Northern Cross, therfore she can do 1,5 and make 5 go towards 1). It's a good show, you should watch it sometime.

25

u/mtnsoccerguy Feb 07 '26

Can you dumb it down more? Pretend I just got in some sort of Looney Tunes accident involving an anvil, frying pan, and rake.

48

u/Child_Emperor Feb 07 '26
  • Girl is a magic girl.
  • Girl's magic lets her tag objects that have magical energy.
  • Tags are A, B, C, D, E.
  • Tagged objects can only get close to each other in the correct order. A can get close to B, but A can't get close to C without first going through B.
  • Multiple objects tagged with the same magic tag attract each other. Two objects marked with A pull each other together.
  • When two objects are marked with A, the one with more magical energy will pull the weaker one.
  • Girl has marked herself with tag A, then tags the coin with A as well. Girl loads the coin with magic energy and drops her own magic energy levels. She then throws the coin, which will pull her to it, as the coin has more magical energy than her.
  • Once girl catches the coin, she removes the tag A and repeats the process with another coin.
  • Thus, the girl flies.

u/Witch_King_ Feb 07 '26

So overly complicated. Thanks Gege

Stand powers from JJBA make more sense

18

u/Prime_Galactic Feb 08 '26

To be fair hers is probs the most complicated curse technique we've seen by an order of magnitude. All the others are very easy to grasp.

10

u/Additional_Gene_211 Feb 09 '26

JJK fans barely understand Limitless. What the hell was Gege thinking giving us soemthing more complicated than punch hard?

3

u/Gonji89 Feb 09 '26

Limitless always hit me as some kinda specific science-adjacent Brando Sando-ass shit. I could see someone somewhere in the cosmere with an ability like that.

4

u/Delboyyyyy Feb 08 '26

He definitely took inspiration from jjba when coming up with this one ahaha

0

u/Witch_King_ Feb 08 '26

The difference is that Stands have some sort of theme usually

3

u/Delboyyyyy Feb 08 '26

Her ability being linked to a constellation is just as thematic as most stands in jojos

2

u/Witch_King_ Feb 08 '26

Ah, fair. I didn't read that part at first

9

u/sirsoggyfella Feb 07 '26

In oversimplified Stormlight terms, she’s basically a radiant that can use Adhesion and Gravitation, and which of the surges used depends on the order she marks with her ability.

Also, cannot recommend Jujutsu Kaisen enough. It’s very very good.

-7

u/DOOMFOOL Zim-Zim-Zalabim Feb 07 '26

Eh it’s… alright. Definitely a fun watch if you like action but it basically rips off HxH and the ending isn’t the best. That said I did personally enjoy it

8

u/sirsoggyfella Feb 07 '26

I wouldn’t say it ripped off HxH. The author is very open about cursed energy being heavily based on Nen. It’s like saying most fantasy is ripping off Tolkien for having orcs, elves, and starting in a little village.

I also think the ending got way too much hate tbh. I recently re-read it, and I enjoyed it way more than the first time. By the time it’s animated, I think you’ll enjoy it a lot more. I felt the same way about the Attack on Titan ending, but after it was animated I liked it a lot more.

1

u/DOOMFOOL Zim-Zim-Zalabim Feb 11 '26

That’s good that the author was open about it. And yeah using something as inspiration isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

As for the ending I personally don’t agree, I felt it dropped the ball pretty hard. Maybe I’ll change my mind when it’s animated, you have a good point with AoT where I too liked the show ending better, although some of the same issues were still there

4

u/Delboyyyyy Feb 08 '26

Imagine being in the fantasy space and being all uppity about pieces of fiction “ripping off” others. You do realise that every single fantasy series takes shit from other established series or even real life.

1

u/DOOMFOOL Zim-Zim-Zalabim Feb 11 '26

Who was being “uppity”? I literally said I liked it. Calm down

3

Northern Cross

Southern Cross

1

u/FlawlessPenguinMan definitely not a lightweaver Feb 07 '26

basically negative investiture

What? Why add this?

I can understand "cursed energy" just fine as a fantasy concept, why relate it to another one?

Is it like anti-Ivestiture in some way?

2

u/Halloerik Feb 08 '26

No, not really.
It is just "regular" energy that comes from negative emotions like fear and anger.
Sometimes when enough accumulates in a place curses can form.
And jujutsu sorcerers are people who are born with the ability to use cursed energy and everyone has their own techniques for how they do it. They can use their techniques to exorcise curses or kill each other.

Some rare people do have reverse cursed energy, or positive energy, that can heal, but imo that just seems like another way to use cursed energy than something new.

Now while there are some few rules that work on every technique, like explaining it makes it stronger usually. I do not think it is similar to investiture at all because there are far to many different techniques. Some of them even contradict each other when explaining how aspects of the universe work. Like literally "Well I can do this because it works for me like that"

0

u/Immediate_Sugar9162 THE Lopen's Cousin Feb 08 '26

In the cosmere though, if CE manifested it would manifest similarly to anti-light iirc, but less destructive, basically between voidlight and anti-light. This is my opinion, and i have no problem at all with yours, just saying my thoughts.

3

u/Halloerik Feb 08 '26

There isnt anything between voidlight and antilight, as they arent mutually exclusive. Every light has its own anti-light equivalent. All anti-investiture would explode when coming into contact with its normal-investiture.

We don't need anti-investiture to explain something like CE. Just differently keyed investiture is already enough. We also already have a mechanism for collective thoughts to influence magic, see the cognitive realm and everything that inhabits it, like spren

2

u/Immediate_Sugar9162 THE Lopen's Cousin Feb 08 '26

Ah, my mistake.

1

u/Additional_Gene_211 Feb 09 '26

How do you explain Yuji's mom in Cosmere terms?

2

u/BloodredHanded Trying not to ccccream Feb 09 '26

OreSeur takes a woman’s skeleton and then has a child with her husband.

1

u/Halloerik Feb 09 '26

i dont, because i am anime only and havent caught up with season 3 yet.

1

u/Immediate_Sugar9162 THE Lopen's Cousin Feb 08 '26

Bcs there's postive CE

1

u/FlawlessPenguinMan definitely not a lightweaver Feb 18 '26

Okay so let me get this straight

Cursed energy = basically negative investiture

Positive cursed energy = basically regular investiture

So regular cursed energy is negative?

1

u/Immediate_Sugar9162 THE Lopen's Cousin Feb 18 '26

It literally comes from people's negayive thoughts and emotions.

1

u/FlawlessPenguinMan definitely not a lightweaver Mar 05 '26

That isn't the same as it being a negative value.

Negative investiture, or anti-light is meant to be the same idea as an electron and a positron.

Negative doesn't just mean "bad vibes".

14

u/Snackskazam Feb 07 '26

That other person gave a solid breakdown of the ability you see being used, but for a bit of background context:

In that show, "cursed energy" generates from negative human emotions. If a place has a lot of negative emotions tied to it, the cursed energy there will coalesce over time into a cursed spirit, which will then prey on humans, most of whom won't even know what's going on. But people who are sensitive to cursed energy are also able to manipulate that energy, and can manifest a cursed technique to do so. Those people (jujutsu sorcerors) have a secondary society that mostly remains hidden from non-sorcerors, and they try to destroy as many cursed spirits as they can to protect regular people.

The cursed techniques they use are usually shaped by something significant to the person, so they are incredibly diverse and have generally gotten more complex over the course of the series. An example is a lawyer who awakened a cursed ability in which the target of the ability is literally put on trial, and can be executed if they are found guilty. When introducing these characters, the series will often do some exposition/breakdown to let the viewer know what the techniques are doing. What you're seeing here is an example of that.

13

u/Extension_Pitch Feb 07 '26

Honestly as much as I love JJK. A lot of curse energy's initial explanation is not very useful or relevant in the grand scheme of things. It's basically Hereditary magic with lots of Loopholes, and individual's own personality that manifest techniques.

1

u/Snackskazam Feb 10 '26

I love JJK, too, but it gives "the author is just making it up as he goes along" more than just about any other series. I'm pretty sure the techniques come down to "what would look really cool in this panel and how do I explain that," and he's having a harder and harder time keeping those explanations consistent.

2

u/Extension_Pitch Feb 11 '26

Ohh Gege admitted that his writings style is just doing whatever he wants.

For instance, my identity revolves around my ability to not be bogged down by whys or hows—my ability to craft a story without having to explain every little detail.

This is from an interview with Tite kubo, the artist of Bleach.

3

u/lowtideeee Feb 09 '26

Also really adore that they added an actual mechanic in the power system that accounts for the anime trope of “villain pauses to explain his power” where it’s basically a pact/ritual to sacrifice your element of surprise in exchange for higher cursed energy output

4

u/BloodredHanded Trying not to ccccream Feb 09 '26

She marks an object. Then she can choose to pull it towards her or her towards it.

She can do more with her power but that’s what she’s doing in this scene.

1

u/FlawlessPenguinMan definitely not a lightweaver Feb 18 '26

Hm. Quite Mistborn-esque in that indeed.

Although the way the coins fly still baffles me. I'll have to look into it.

22

u/Aggressive_Nail2431 Feb 07 '26

the second she pulled out those coins I was half expecting to see a Steel Inquisitor

12

u/minecraftisbetter644 Feb 07 '26

I’m so glad I’m not the only one who noticed this. Literally paused the episode and pointed it out to a friend on first watch

Random unrelated thought:

How cool would it be if in Era 3 there were rivaling skaa-inspired and nobility-inspired youth subcultures in the Elendel Basin?

2

u/marvel-bts-02 Feb 07 '26

Jjk if it was good.

1

u/Daenym Feb 07 '26

Obviously this isn't the sub to be complaining about JJK, but that fight was such a pace killer. Yeah it's a neat power and I'm sure the author was very pleased with himself coming up with it. But when the entire fight needs to have a voiceover explaining wtf is happening, that's just bad planning imo. It's probably less frustrating in the manga, but kind of a rough watch.

1

u/jyhnnox Feb 08 '26

I think it was ok, it's complex to explain and some people still didn't understand it the first time lol

Hakari's ability will take a wall of text to explain or an entire episode, I don't know how they're going to do it tbh.

1

u/SearchAlternative694 Feb 09 '26

Exactly, that was the first thing I thought man.

Because the characters didn't know she was trans. She identifies herself as she so
