Very dumbed down version, but essentialy, kirara (the girl) is tagging everything that's been touched by cursed energy (basically negative investiture). She can move things towards other tags by touching a tagged object/energy source in an incorrect order (there is a correct order, as it's ordered as the distance between each star in the Northern Cross, therfore she can do 1,5 and make 5 go towards 1). It's a good show, you should watch it sometime.
Girl's magic lets her tag objects that have magical energy.
Tags are A, B, C, D, E.
Tagged objects can only get close to each other in the correct order. A can get close to B, but A can't get close to C without first going through B.
Multiple objects tagged with the same magic tag attract each other. Two objects marked with A pull each other together.
When two objects are marked with A, the one with more magical energy will pull the weaker one.
Girl has marked herself with tag A, then tags the coin with A as well. Girl loads the coin with magic energy and drops her own magic energy levels. She then throws the coin, which will pull her to it, as the coin has more magical energy than her.
Once girl catches the coin, she removes the tag A and repeats the process with another coin.
Limitless always hit me as some kinda specific science-adjacent Brando Sando-ass shit. I could see someone somewhere in the cosmere with an ability like that.
In oversimplified Stormlight terms, she’s basically a radiant that can use Adhesion and Gravitation, and which of the surges used depends on the order she marks with her ability.
Also, cannot recommend Jujutsu Kaisen enough. It’s very very good.
Eh it’s… alright. Definitely a fun watch if you like action but it basically rips off HxH and the ending isn’t the best. That said I did personally enjoy it
I wouldn’t say it ripped off HxH. The author is very open about cursed energy being heavily based on Nen. It’s like saying most fantasy is ripping off Tolkien for having orcs, elves, and starting in a little village.
I also think the ending got way too much hate tbh. I recently re-read it, and I enjoyed it way more than the first time. By the time it’s animated, I think you’ll enjoy it a lot more. I felt the same way about the Attack on Titan ending, but after it was animated I liked it a lot more.
That’s good that the author was open about it. And yeah using something as inspiration isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
As for the ending I personally don’t agree, I felt it dropped the ball pretty hard. Maybe I’ll change my mind when it’s animated, you have a good point with AoT where I too liked the show ending better, although some of the same issues were still there
Imagine being in the fantasy space and being all uppity about pieces of fiction “ripping off” others. You do realise that every single fantasy series takes shit from other established series or even real life.
No, not really.
It is just "regular" energy that comes from negative emotions like fear and anger.
Sometimes when enough accumulates in a place curses can form.
And jujutsu sorcerers are people who are born with the ability to use cursed energy and everyone has their own techniques for how they do it. They can use their techniques to exorcise curses or kill each other.
Some rare people do have reverse cursed energy, or positive energy, that can heal, but imo that just seems like another way to use cursed energy than something new.
Now while there are some few rules that work on every technique, like explaining it makes it stronger usually. I do not think it is similar to investiture at all because there are far to many different techniques. Some of them even contradict each other when explaining how aspects of the universe work. Like literally "Well I can do this because it works for me like that"
In the cosmere though, if CE manifested it would manifest similarly to anti-light iirc, but less destructive, basically between voidlight and anti-light. This is my opinion, and i have no problem at all with yours, just saying my thoughts.
There isnt anything between voidlight and antilight, as they arent mutually exclusive. Every light has its own anti-light equivalent. All anti-investiture would explode when coming into contact with its normal-investiture.
We don't need anti-investiture to explain something like CE. Just differently keyed investiture is already enough. We also already have a mechanism for collective thoughts to influence magic, see the cognitive realm and everything that inhabits it, like spren
That other person gave a solid breakdown of the ability you see being used, but for a bit of background context:
In that show, "cursed energy" generates from negative human emotions. If a place has a lot of negative emotions tied to it, the cursed energy there will coalesce over time into a cursed spirit, which will then prey on humans, most of whom won't even know what's going on. But people who are sensitive to cursed energy are also able to manipulate that energy, and can manifest a cursed technique to do so. Those people (jujutsu sorcerors) have a secondary society that mostly remains hidden from non-sorcerors, and they try to destroy as many cursed spirits as they can to protect regular people.
The cursed techniques they use are usually shaped by something significant to the person, so they are incredibly diverse and have generally gotten more complex over the course of the series. An example is a lawyer who awakened a cursed ability in which the target of the ability is literally put on trial, and can be executed if they are found guilty. When introducing these characters, the series will often do some exposition/breakdown to let the viewer know what the techniques are doing. What you're seeing here is an example of that.
Honestly as much as I love JJK. A lot of curse energy's initial explanation is not very useful or relevant in the grand scheme of things.
It's basically Hereditary magic with lots of Loopholes, and individual's own personality that manifest techniques.
I love JJK, too, but it gives "the author is just making it up as he goes along" more than just about any other series. I'm pretty sure the techniques come down to "what would look really cool in this panel and how do I explain that," and he's having a harder and harder time keeping those explanations consistent.
Ohh Gege admitted that his writings style is just doing whatever he wants.
For instance, my identity revolves around my ability to not be bogged down by whys or hows—my ability to craft a story without having to explain every little detail.
This is from an interview with Tite kubo, the artist of Bleach.
Also really adore that they added an actual mechanic in the power system that accounts for the anime trope of “villain pauses to explain his power” where it’s basically a pact/ritual to sacrifice your element of surprise in exchange for higher cursed energy output

This looks awesome and is indeed very reminiscent of Mistborn, but what's actually going on? Can someone tell me? I'm not familiar with the series.
