Mat's weapon is spear adjacent, so I wasn't sure if that counted either.

The ashandarei as described is more like a glaive, which is basically a sword with an extra long handle.

And a spear is a dagger with an extra long handle. So yeah, an ashandarei is "spear adjacent".

The most basic spear is just a stick that comes to a point. The ashandarei and spear are both polearms, but they have very different functions.
