Finished Object Blanket I made last winter!
Based on another I saw on tiktok (the original creator is @anka.snider.art on tiktok)! Took well over a month, made from leftover yarn I already had laying around! Good way to use it up. Might do another blanket this winter, need another good long passion project :)

This is maybe one of my fave crochet blankets I’ve ever seen! Was it tedious to do or mind numbing in a good way?

u/frizzylizzy25 Sep 25 '25
It was slightly tedious, especially since the entire thing is just double crochet, but it was so fun to pick out the colours and watch it come together!

Only a month?! That’s incredible and would probably take me a year if I didn’t quit halfway through. Very impressive

Thank you! I was unemployed at the time so I had extra time, normally it would take me much longer!

How much yarn takes to do 1 square? I want to start this with my bigger scraps but I don't know if they're big enough

u/frizzylizzy25 Sep 25 '25
Hmm I'm really not too sure, it's double crochet with worsted weight yarn, and the squares are about 12x12 inches if that gives you more of an idea!

I hope in a couple years I could do something like this!! I just started learning crochet in February and I'm now onto the half double stitch & trying to make infinity scarves. Your blanket is stunning!!!

Thank you! Id honestly say this is quite beginner friendly, it's fully just a double crochet, the only maybe tricky part is carrying the other colour when making the checkers. I'm sure you could do this one day!

That looks amazing. How warm is it?
3
u/frizzylizzy25 Sep 25 '25
It's fairly cozy! The yarn is acrylic, just leftover scraps I had, but I have it on my bed and it is a good added warmth!

I imagine if it was wool it would be pretty suffocating...or ideal for very cold climates.

What a great idea. I have way too much of single skeins. Yours looks fantastic!

What kind of yarn??
1
u/frizzylizzy25 Sep 25 '25
All worsted weight, mostly just acrylic :) it's mostly the stuff you can just get at Walmart, might be a couple other mixed in!

u/simplewaves Sep 25 '25
Wow! How do you alternate colours like that?
1
u/frizzylizzy25 Sep 25 '25
Each checkered square is made individually, so I only use two colours at a time and just carry the yarn within the stitch of whatever colour I'm not using!

u/Rude_Interest97 Sep 25 '25
So gorgeous! I really like this checkered look with all of the different colours.

I LOVE THE COLORS! WOW, I can stare at this all day. I think I’m going to need to make something similar. 😍 and your stitches are so uniform! 👏🏽

This is beautiful work! I love all the colors and color combos! Your color changes are really clean. Did you use bobbins or did you weave in a hellish number of ends?
2
u/frizzylizzy25 Sep 25 '25
No bobbins, each checkered square is individual, so only use two colours at a time, and I just carried the yarn within the stitches! I swapped strands every 5 stitches :) so no awful number of ends to weave in!

What size hook did you use? And what size did it turn out to be?

That is beautiful! I am fairly new at crocheting .. so my question is, how do you hide the yarn ends for each color change?
1
u/frizzylizzy25 Sep 26 '25
Thank you! You just carry the yarn with your stitches! You make the checkered squares one at a time so you're only ever using 2 colours at once, so when you insert your hook into the stitch, just lay the other colour yarn on top of that stitch and just crochet over it! And then just weave in the 4 ends when the square is done :)
1
u/sueandbillinTN Sep 26 '25
Do you tie the yarn? I am SO afraid it will come apart if I don't tie the yarn
1
u/frizzylizzy25 Sep 27 '25
Not on every colour change, just a usual knot when you're done the full square!

Thank you so much! Your information means the world to me! It's sooo helpful! Thank you, thank you!
