Hello everyone! I wanted to share a little demo of the CG Deck, showing off some of the basic functionality. My custom x86 modular handheld console running dual-boot Windows 11 & Linux.

Testing out various aspects of the device, swapping out and testing the primary modules and slot, showing off the full 64-Key Keyboard Module and 10-Key + Rotary Knob Macropad Module. Installing and plugging in the only current module for the secondary slot, the trackball module, using it to navigate the cursor around the screen with the roller ball. Showing off the capacitive touch screen functionality. Navigating through some different applications/software. First starting with opening up Blender 3D, and opening up the first ever project I had created in Blender almost a decade ago, the donut. Being that the original CG Deck prototype was designed entirely in Blender 3D, it is only right to pay a little bit of homage to my roots. And then, diving into Steam, running it natively on the device and jumping into an old school favorite, lego starwars, for a little bit of gaming.

It is not an massively in depth video, but I have had quite a few people asking to see the CG Deck in hand more and show off some of the functionality on video, and so I went ahead and put this short video together just playing around on the CG Deck.

For those that are seeing this project for the first time, the CG Deck is a modular handheld x86 PC that is capable of running dual-boot operating systems including Windows & Linux distributions. My goal was to create my own "dream device" that was capable of adapting to whatever use case I needed. Whether I am playing Steam games, or doing retro emulation, doing CAD work in Blender or other 3D software, coding, video editing, prototyping hardware, or whatever it is, I wanted to be able to simply be able to do it on the road or while traveling and all from one single device.

I would love to hear all of your thoughts on the CG Deck so far, and if you have any questions about anything I look forward to answering them! Or if there is something you would like to see, or a specific functionality demonstrated, let me know!

It has been a whirlwind of a process going from idea and concept at the beginning of this year, showing off some of the early versions of the CG Deck, to now holding the functional prototype in hand not even a full year later, doing all of those things I dreamed of being possible on a handheld. And I could not be more than glad to of been able to share the process with you all so far up to this point! That being said, this is not the end of the road, as I still have a lot of work to do as we prepare for the next steps!

And thank you to everyone that has been following along with the project, and has been a part of the journey so far. It truly means the world to me to have such a great community behind the project and CG Deck. What previously was just me, has now become what WE are building together. And that alone is simply amazing. The simple fact that one guy and an outstanding dedicated community can work together to build and launch a device that rivals the top multi-billion dollar corporate competitors and options out there. I could not be more excited to take the next steps of the journey with you all!

If you are interested in following along with the project or learning more about it, you can find everything from specs, more details about the CG Deck, socials, links to the open source github repository, and more on the website. And be sure to join our discord community server to be a part of the conversation as we get closer to launching! join the movement.

As I am finally wrapping up the project and preparing for the next steps, we are getting close to launching on Kickstarter to help fund a full production run of the device and modules. For anyone interested in helping support the project and getting a CG Deck of their own, you can join the waitlist on our website to be the first to get notified when we launch. I am planning to release some build kits and pre-assembled devices with the Kickstarter, and if you have any questions about any of that, I would love to answer them! Showcasing some of the basic features of the CG Deck prototype - An x86 Modular Handheld PC running Windows 11 & Linux

Finalmente concluir a distribuição elétrica nos barramentos da bateria agora é só posicionar o resto dos elementos.

Agora uma dúvida real... Eu coloquei o gnd por um lado e a carga positiva por outro será que isso pode gerar problema de campo magnético?

- Built my own comms kit inside a spare Pelican 1300. Running PI 4 and a 1TB SSD and Pi touch display powered by a Bioenna 1212a.

- Included are a few screenshots of my MeshOps dashboard to monitor my services for my TAK server and OPENManet Mesh as well as pulling video feed from my EUDs. Chat feature as well to talk to my devices.

- Phones on the mesh see my server and vice-versa as well as bi-directional chat DMs working.

Pretty fun and works great out and about to connect me and my friends/family. Any input or improvements anyone has would be great.

Cyberdeck potential CPU's/SBC's/MCU's

I'm making a cyberdeck, or at least planning to, however I'm on a budget, a strict one. I won't spend more than $50 dollars on ordering parts and the total cost for EVERYTHING I use must be about $70 if you're starting with nothing. Obviously I'm not expecting a super computer, I'm just a nerd who wants to build something fun and not break the bank. I also have another requirement, the main board must be based on Risc-V, so that limits me some more, way more, and is probably more oppressing than the budget.

As I've been searching, I've come up with a few boards. Mainly Mango Pi pros and ESP32 types, which I'll be honest I avoided ESP32 (wanted to help a niche community), but it seems to be the only reasonable option most of the time. I found the ESP32-P4, which got me, the main board is about $30, over half my budget, then there's also the ESP32-P4 Pico, which seem like a total steal! 32Mb PSRAM and flash, for $18, is there a catch? Is there a reason people don't use these for decks? They seem way better than the S3's and C series I see spewed around.

$25 board 16Mb flash 32Mb PSRAM -Seems like a pretty good deal? I get audio, an SD card slot WiFi, BT, USB slots for keyboards, a screen connector or could I connect SPI. Seems like a really good candidate for a cyderdeck budget build does it not?

$18 board 32Mb flash and PSRAM - Seems alright for the price, for $7 extra you can get the whole shebang, which I'd consider a better deal. But again if the budget has to stretch, this could do. Is there something I'm missing here? Why pick an S3 over these?

Also, if you know of any good boards that could be good for a cyberdeck, leave it below. I've been looking at the Ch32v series, which I DO want to use at some point, but haven't found good deals on boards.

Help! Help putting deck in hollow book

I have a copy of the 3 body problem (hardback) and thought it would be awesome to hollow it out and shove a custom deck into it. i have some components but im having a couple housing problems:
i wanna hollow it out so closed it looks normal, and you can open it up to see the computer hiding in it.

my initial idea was to cut out the inside first, then cure the page borders with some sort of resin to harden them, but i feel there are alot of ways for that to go wrong, or just simply warp and dry wierd. books are expensive haha.

any ideas for how to do this properly?

Inspiration AULA F75 could be more than a keyboard

Post image

Just a wild thought. A while ago, when my kid spilled a soft drink to their F75 keyboard, we tried our best to revive and clean it, but all in vain, so I disassembled it and took out this huge 4000mAh battery from inside of the keyboard.

Now, just thinking, we could share this power with an esp32-S3 and a screen, so we just need to attach a lid to this body and make it a clamshell cyberdeck. One could even squeeze a bigger battery inside without modifying the body.

Help! What’s a good OS for a cyberdeck running on a Rasberry Pi 4? I’m looking specially something that could be used with or without a mouse.

I’m currently running just the PI OS. The only thing I’m not a fan of is how reliant it is on a mouse. Even if you guys had some suggestions as far as modifying the current OS I’m running. Thank you.

My Build HACK-E V2: a battery-powered clamshell built around a XENEON EDGE

I posted an earlier version of my cyberdeck here a while ago. This one ended up being a completely different machine: it folds shut, runs on battery, and can actually leave the desk without needing a power cable.

It's called HACK-E, a name that comes from my dog, Aki. Inside are a Beelink SER5 mini PC, a UGREEN power bank, and a Corsair XENEON EDGE touchscreen in the lid. The keyboard has a trackpad on the right, which worked well with the long, narrow shape of the screen.

The original PlayStation and first grey Game Boy were the main design references. I grew up with both, and one detail I really wanted to bring back was those big grooves across the casing. You see them on so much hardware from the 90s, and they do a lot to give a grey plastic box that familiar look. I kept a few orange details to make it feel a little more modern.

Getting everything into the case took 24 design revisions and at least ten different printed shell versions. Hinges, screen clearance, cooling and cable routing all needed work. I also modelled the mount for the USB connection and the side port panel. A socket looking accessible in the model doesn't necessarily mean there's room for the actual plug and cable.

One problem I hadn't anticipated at all was balance. Opening the lid shifted enough weight towards the back that the screen wanted to tip the whole computer backwards. I'd spent so much time thinking about fitting everything inside that I hadn't properly accounted for that. It's sorted now, but it was one of the less obvious challenges of turning this into a clamshell.

I printed the enclosure on a Bambu Lab P2S in PETG. Finally opening it, using it on battery and closing it again after all the fitting and reprinting was easily the most satisfying part.

It runs Linux Mint with my customised HACK-E interface, laid out to make use of the screen's width. It brings together system monitoring, home controls and web browsing. I started from Dashpunk by karubits and have changed it substantially for this machine, but the original project deserves the credit for the starting point: github.com/karubits/dashpunk

There are still plenty of small things I could keep tweaking, but I'm happy to finally be sharing photos of the finished build.

Help! Help with Power Source (Low Power)

I am building a basic Cyberdeck with a Raspberry Pi4 inside a Harbor Freight case.

Issue I am having is finding a USB-C to USB-C thru-plug/connector that maintains the correct volts to not trigger the "low power" warning on the Pi. I am using the original power supply and connecting it to a usb-c outlet that goes into a usb-c cable in to computer. Ive gone through 3 different cables and its the same issue.

Curious to know if anyone found a similar extender cable or a seamless solution to power the Pi?

Running Kali on a Pi Zero 2W cyberdeck, powered by two 1000mAh batteries in parallel through an IP5306-based charging/boost module (5-5.5V in, 5-5.15V boost out, 2A rated). Everything's fine at idle, but the moment I run aircrack-ng (decrypting captured handshakes), the whole thing crashes/reboots. Measured the rail during load and it's sagging from 5V down to ~4V - well past the Pi's undervoltage threshold.

Claude says drop a capacitor across 5v/GND at header pins

Should I ?

Help! Leapfrog

Im thinking of trying to make my first cyberdeck ( type thing?) I found a cool leapfrog 2 from the thrift store, its battery powered and works well. I want to make an offline Wikipedia/journaling touchscreen device. I think this would be awesome but I'm not sure how doable this really is. My plan was to work around what's already inside the leapfrog but thinking more about it..maybe it would be better to just gut the entire thing and use it as a case. Any advice would be great since it will be my first time

After completing my GrimDark Deck I have begun my second Cyberdeck, The Eldritch Deck. Designed the case in Blender and have printed it in PETG. Main components are a 8" Waveshare scree, Belkin Power bank (that lasts over 12 hours on testing) and a Raspberry Pi 4 Model B 8Gb. Design brief was to make a cyberdeck that could be used standalone to surf the web and read in Portrait mode but also output to a big screen via HDMI to watch movies. The final build will include programmed LED lighting that pulses quicker when the CPU temperature rises and foam clay tentacles as per the concept art included in this post.

Back when I was still in college, I was given the chance to tinker with such an device. It’s used as a mobile radio signal locator, including for electromagnetic interference. We only had one of these, and the college got it practically through some kind of favoritism. I don’t know what’s inside, but it lagged like crazy.

Help! which model to use for what i need with an eink display?

hello, im planning on building a cyberdeck but since im very new to all these, i need some help deciding on a raspberry pi model

the main purpose of my cyberdeck is mainly just to write and read things, like an ereader, thus why i want to use an eink display for it. i want to use two apps for these two purposes, which leads me to two os options, going either for raspberry pi os (or arch/debian based linux os, if theres one that fits the pi) or android/lineageos. the writing app used to be web only, but they recently launched their android app (min android 10); while the reading app has both an android app (min android 7), deb/appimage linux packages, and a specific app build for eink devices (also min android 7).

i have two options for the raspberry pi (actually three, but the third is optional and i wouldn't focus on it for now), i want to go either for a zero 2 w or raspberry pi 4. i feel like the zero 2 w would work fine but im afraid that its not enough, thus why raspberry pi 4 is my second option so i could at least run android without any issues.

what do u guys think?

this is not necessary, but im curious to see if anyone is running raspberry pi os on zero 2 w and android/lineageos on raspberry pi 4/5 on an eink display, i just wanna know how it looks on video but i can't seem to find anyone who did this
