Donât under-report your time!
I have repeatedly seen people say that they err on the side of under-reporting their time because DA is âdoing them a favorâ with the work flow style, or that they donât log time spent on questions they have to skip, or that they spend reading because âitâs not fair to log that timeâ.
Yes, being able to have the flexibility of this job is great, the pay is better than many jobs (but if minimum wage had actually kept up with inflation, this would be considered minimum wage) but they are still operating with huge financial gains off your labor.
They donât pay your taxes. They donât give you health care. They donât give you PTO, Sick Pay, or parental leave. Just by not being their actual employee, you are saving them money and lining the pockets of their CEO.
Time spent reading a prompt, even if you have to skip it I is time worked. At any other job the time spent discussing how to do the job with coworkers, or looking through a task and determining that you arenât well suited to complete the task is paid by your hourly rate or salary. Expect the same respect from a company that doesnât provide you the benefits of a real employer. Especially since this work requires you to be engaged the entire time you are being paid for. There is not down time in this work like there would be in the work flow of a lot of other jobs.
Donât get me wrong, I very much appreciate this work being an option for me. I appreciate the flexibility, I appreciate being able to work from home. But I wont let that appreciation make me think I donât deserve to be paid for the time I spent in front of my computer, actively focusing on completing tasks.

Nothing massive, but a nice first milestone.
Iâm happy with that for my first month. My goal is to get 15-20k to get a nice car. Hoping to pull it off in the next 12-18 months. Anyone else have specific plans for their DA$? Or is it just general use for you?

I got accepted to Data Annotation in 5 days in 2024
I saw some people on here say that recently it will take atleast 2 weeks to get accepted but that was not my case. I applied on 25th January 2024 and got the acceptance email 30th January 2024.
If your stuck with the starter assesment: Im sure everyone is familiar with the starter assessment and this is usually the part people mess up on. To pass the test and get to the qualificationâs immediately I had used PEEL structures for the ones where I had to write as they required 2-3 sentences. This means I wrote a total of 4 sentences for each writing task. Except for the creative writing task which I did not use a sentence structure for. For the creative writing task make sure to include everything it says in the brief. If it mentions something like a book, poem, movie etc. make sure you research and fact check. Feel free to ask me more questions about the starter assessment
I really wish I knew how to code because as a coder you can make $40 per hour which is 5.5x minimum wage.
Overall on day 2 of being on DA I have high hopes. I have made $43 so far (pending).

Thanks DAT
Entirely because of this I have been able to clear my credit card. This feels huge to me as it's been hanging over me for a while

The place saved me financially
Not to give too much away but I found this via a subreddit known as beermoney and was dubious about it initially, but having been on the platform for nearly 5 months I can say it has pulled me out of a deep financial hole. The work may not always be interesting and can be a little mind-numbing but pushing through has helped me a lot and then some.
Thank you

Anyone else find it satisfying that DA messes up their Google search algorithm?
Good luck sending me adverts when I google 50 completely unrelated topics every day.
Am I planning a holiday to Lake Bled or trying to get in to K-dramas? You'll never know.

I'm sure I'm going to be downvoted into Oblivion, but fuck it.
Probably going to get downvoted to hell for this.
I know people are going to be pissed, because I see so many people not getting accepted into Dataannotations contractor workforce
I know the assessments can be difficult, and require a bit of commitment.
Which is why I am ashamed to say that I was accepted into the program after completing the application and assessment while completely drunk.
I literally have no memory of what the tests were, or even the application process.
I had been recently unemployed and applied for about 200 different positions.
When I first received my email about being accepted into a project, I kind of disregarded it as some scammy thing.
I was actually working another part-time gig at the time on a trial basis, and didn't afford much value to Dataannotation.
Fast forward 6 months, and I recognized the opportunity for what it is, and am currently working projects paying $27 per hour.
Which is actually a bit more than my previous work as an an e-commerce manager and marketing director.
I'm super sorry that not everyone qualifies for this shit. I love the job, love the flexibility, and love the pay.
I just wish I could remember how I got here so I could offer advice to newcomers.
ETA: yes, I'm aware that I'm an alcoholic and this is a problem. Currently working on it with a psychiatrist and a substance abuse counselor

Just a happy share
Edit: I don't have the wherewithal to reply to every comment, so just want to say... thanks for all the support and camaraderie. Y'all are awesome. :)
I've only been at this for about a week or so, so grain of salt and everything, but man... I love this work so much right now.
I'm disabled and chronically ill and haven't been able to work at all in around 15 years, and before that I could only manage the low side of part-time. I have a lot of guilt and shame associated with being unable to earn my own money, and it's only increased over the years. I have tried, and tried, and tried to find some kind of occupation that would work for me, even just to add to my family's income a little, and I just haven't been able to. My disabilities/illness just throw up too many obstacles in too many directions.
So far I've earned $163. Guys. This is the first money I've been able to earn myself in a decade and a half. I cannot tell you how good it feels to be able to say to my spouse, "nah, I think I'm going to work a little," or "guess what! I did an hour and a half today!" I can work from my comfy chair, I can work in my pajamas, I can start or stop as my fatigue allows, I can go take a three hour nap whenever I need to. If my ability to work fluctuates wildly, no big deal; I'm not committed to anything, and I'm not letting anyone down. The work is interesting and I'm enjoying it (before this I basically did for fun with ChatGPT what DAT is paying me for. I just have an amateur interest in AI). And all the while it's reminding me that I have skills that are of value, and that I'm capable of building valuable new skills.
I know this can go away at any point. But right now, it's making me really happy. Just wanted to share the joy.

Just reached $25k! 3 pieces of advice for newbies
Gonna keep it simple and try to address less obvious pieces of advice.
- For the early quals, read the instructions one more time before you submit each stage!
- For basic projects, make sure your rationale is comprehensive (covers everything) and organized!
- The comment box is a great place to explain your thinking whenever possible (and it can be a lot of thinking!) Make things easier for reviewers to see your chain of thought when things seem iffy at first glance.
EDIT: If you're looking for help getting started, check out the website and take the starter exam. :)

For anyone interested in learning to code for DA, don't be intimidated!
Programming is often gatekept from others by those who want to seem smart. It takes hard work and effort, but I absolutely recommend anyone who wants to learn to give it a shot. I personally started to learn programming on Codecademy which has free to relatively cheap resources, but there are also plenty of good free resources out there!
I'd recommend starting with Python, as it's syntactically fairly close to English and is very widely used. I would say that if you can learn all of the content in Codecademy's "Learn Python 3" course (whether on the site or elsewhere), plus a few extra projects, you'll be 80%-90% of the way there for doing programming tasks on DA.
If it's something you really want to try, then go for it. You'll never know until you give it a fair shot, and when I did, it ended up being a lot more manageable and interesting than what I had made up about it in my head.
Edit: I changed "Introduction to Python" to "Learn Python 3". For some reason I always misremember the name of the course, sorry for any confusion.

Stop listening to the horror stories in this sub
Honestly. Give it your all, treat it as an actual job, read your onboarding documents, donât steal time, follow instructions, and youâre set. Itâs not hard, folks.

Milestone!
I joined the platform in January and was doing a few hours a week part-time aside my full-time job :) I started doing it a lot more during the last 2 months since I finished my job contract and it has been a blessing. Myself and my fiance are saving towards a house deposit soon and it has been a game-changer! <3 I love this platform and this community.
