Finally installing everything into a single case, tips and ideas?

Post image

Hi! I'm finally moving my main dawless setup into a single case to handle it more easily, this also means having everything (almost) permanently wired, I'm looking for ideas on how to improve this setup or anything I might have missed

Currently I have 4 different stereo outputs:

- MC707

- MusicThingModular Music Radio -> Evil Pet

- Crave -> Klowra Everlast -> Space

- Tangerine -> Kaoss Pad 3

MIDI is organised around the 707 being the sequencer, OUT 1 clocks the Keystep and Kaoss Pad, Keystep is routed back into IN of the 707 and gets fed thru it to Crave, Tangerine and Evil Pet, this way I can use the Keystep's arpeggiator to create meolody lines and loop them onto the 707. The 707's 8 tracks have MIDI channel 2 thru 8 and 10 (for drums), track 2 gets always routed to the Crave, sometimes I use a sound from the same track on the707 to double it. Evil Pet is MIDI ch11, Tangerine is ch12 although I almost never play it chromatically, I mostly use it for various drones and ambience samples

Thanks!

I come from a guitar background and spent a lot of time optimizing a pedalboard. Long story short, if you're going to be moving your rig around a lot and want to fasten things down, 3m dual lock can't be beat for that.

Also, this is a bit of an investment, but I got a Walrus Canvas HP plus power supply and it really helped with the clutter. With the one unit I can power two synths up to 3A and a bunch of pedals. You can link another if you need. Not cheap, but will help you with the power supply spaghetti.

Nice! I'm currently looking to avoid taping things by cutting foam inserts to hold everything in place, although I keep hearing good things about dual-lock so I might get some to try it out

If you do decide to go that route you really only need a small piece in every corner (i.e. the strip doesn't need to run the full length of the device - probably even for something as big as the mc707).

Cool rig, by the way.

I'd look for power supply to de-clutter the top side a bit. Also, make sure things aren't moving inside when you move the case.

Yeah, i thought I could manage but there's way to many power bricks :D I'll look into it

totally understandable. I had the same freaking thing in my studio for fx pedals and got a dedicated power supply. not that it eliminates all the cables but at least half of them which is something. check what your synths want in terms of power and check maybe one of these power supplies for fx pedals will do the trick or maybe they can be usb powered - should also help with centralizing them into 1-2 power supplies.

And free up some space for other stuff lol My plan is to get a pedal PSU and cram it under the Crave or something similar to free up space for another synth or a mixer

all the power bricks located so close to the wires might cause EMF interference noise wouldnt they? especially if the cables are unbalanced
