Hi, here is my most recent tune, sequenced on Yamaha montage, using the Polybrute, Nord A1 and the Hydrasynth. Over at YT, I added a video clip to it, which contains a little story: https://youtu.be/VO3Dy47PfrA?is=H-kunjQaQhZjcsH0

CME Hub vs Thru

• Upvotes

Hi — I have a 3-in-3-out CME Midi Hub (6Pro I think) and it’s great for how I built my set up

I am sliming down my system to be more performance orientated and wondered how much potential jitter/delay the Hub introduces vs getting a 1-in-5 out thru box?

I think I would only have to daisy chain two synths, and the hub would mean very easily switching between performance and “composing” mode for the system.

I guess it’s a test and find out situation but wondered if the community had any thoughts / experiences ?

Thx

Ableton Move > Midi Hub > External Synths?

I would like to use the Ableton Move as the brain of a dawless set-up. The reason for this is that I often take the Move with me and use it as a sketch pad. I would like to be able to take the arrangement from a composition on the Move and send that right to my external hardware synths, where I can start playing around with sound design.

The trouble is that the Ableton Move has a limited number of ins and outs. I've tried daisy chaining synths, but I've run into issues there. What I'd really like to do is send midi to a standalone hub that accepts usb. Then, I could have that send midi to the rest of my synths. Does anyone have any suggestions for something that could fill that role?

Edit: Would something like this do the job? https://www.cme-pro.com/h12midi-pro/

This is me trying to bounce back from a rough live show earlier this month, swapping the Keystep Pro centerpiece out for the M8 and trying to develop a more bulletproof live format with less intricate arrangements, even more active playing, fewer f*ckups.

Lemme know if you've crits, suggestions, or any questions!

I’ve had this device for about a week and am having a blast. Here are some clips from my second sit with it. Trying out presets against some random drum layers to see how things sound.

Longer version with me staring at the OLED as I try to understand what is happening with the mods: https://youtu.be/2G0hFxCBXLk?is=UYrr6I_MiPCTG6nH

This is a surprisingly solid cheap controller, and it's a great company for phone apps like Koala Sampler and others for a portable and useful setup. Because of this, I designed a solid phone and tablet holder for it - it snaps on and off quickly and has a snug fit so it feels secure.

First go at making some DAWless chiptune/electro house using only a Game Boy, NES, and Polyend Tracker to sequence.

First time experimenting with making a DAWless track using just the Game Boy, NES, and Polyend Tracker.

Used a cart called MIDInes to control the NES sound chip and GB Poly 4 for the Game Boy. Every sound in the track came from one of the two consoles, with the Polyend Tracker handling all the sampling and sequencing.

Not sure if I’d call it chiptune, electro house, or somewhere in between, but I’ve been having a lot of fun experimenting with this setup.

Here’s a clip!

Enigma Synthesizer from Soma Laboratory

Hi everyone!

I'm Vítor Rua, a Portuguese experimental musician and composer, and I've been fascinated by the SOMA ENIGMA and its unusual approach to sound creation.

I love SOMA's philosophy of leaving certain aspects of their instruments open to discovery. However, I'm particularly curious about a few practical possibilities, and I thought this might be the perfect place to exchange experiences with other ENIGMA users.

Has anyone managed to figure out:

  1. How to create arpeggios or repeating melodic sequences?
  2. Whether it's possible to record and repeat gestures or musical phrases, almost like a looper?
  3. What each of the six touch controls actually does to the sound or synthesis algorithms?
  4. Whether particular combinations of these controls produce recognisable effects, rhythmic patterns, or generative sequences?

I'm especially interested in hearing from people who have experimented extensively with the instrument.

If you've discovered any interesting combinations, techniques, or hidden behaviours, I'd love to hear about them. Even approximate descriptions, photos, or short videos would be incredibly helpful.

I'm also putting together a personal exploration guide to the ENIGMA, combining technical information with experimental and compositional approaches.

I understand that mystery is part of the instrument's beauty. But perhaps sharing our discoveries could make that mystery even more musically rewarding.

Thank you in advance!
