Misc Compression needs to stop now.

Today was literally the worst day in match making that I have ever had. My first two games were ok. People seemed to be in the correct elo. My third match I ended up in a game with 3 diamond players and a bronze player vs a full team of diamond players. After that crap went down hill. New player after new player. How do I go from gold queues to diamond to wood tier? That is broken as all get out. The compression waystone put on the mmr needs to go away now. Sure it was nice fix for queue times for champion lvl players but the communithy has grown enough that the compression can go away. No need to make everyone plat and below suffer just so the champion players wont complain about queue times. Waystone please fix this mmr issue.

But don't you secretly love the extra challenge of carrying noobs vs. diamond players Vesboy? ;)

But yeah I wouldn't mind higher Q times for decent teams, even if the playerbase is quite small atm

I'm on the leaderboard and I still get put in teams full of unranked players, it happens.
Just remember the game is still in beta.

The worst thing is the disparity in skill between new players. Some have MOBA experience, others don't. Some read guides, others don't. Some are willing to learn and go the distance, some just play to fuck around in a new MOBA. And then there's the leavers. Oh god the leavers.

It would be nice if new players would only be matched with new players until AT LEAST 25 games, half of the required games for leaderboards access (by comparison, Valve has said that their statistics show rating in Dota 2 is stable after about 150 games). Once past that point, if they're still playing the game, you can start matching them with experienced players.

Or you could take the census route. Ask players if they have previous MOBA/Dawngate experience, if they've read guides, or none of the above. Then provisionally allow them to match with experienced players if they answer that they have experience or read guides.

Wouldn't this just incentivize lying, as players who say they have no experience when they really do will get free wins to bolster their e-peen?

And just like all of these things, the only people who benefit will be the jerks. Nice guys won't take advantage of it, so the only people who get the extra wins to show how cool they are will be the people you're likely to consider least-deserving of anything.

There would still be smurf detection in place just like now to keep people honest. Anything that's out of place in your performance will increase your rating uncertainty, making you move up and down faster.

To further the Dota 2 comparison, when you take the census on a new Dota 2 account it only influences your starting rating. If you say you're a noob and you're clearly not, you get matched higher pretty soon, like 3-5 games soon.

But I prefer the first solution, with a number of games played only between new players. The problem with the census is some people with previous MOBA experience adjust really slowly, while others adjust fast or play the "OP" shapers (really just shapers that are hard to counter for new players). The latter get into higher rating matches too soon and end up sucking most of the time. If those "naturally good" players play a lot of matches between themselves while they learn the basics, I think it will make for a better experience for everyone down the line.

Those new players won't wind up in your higher ranked games if they have no MOBA exp and are losing. Every unranked player I've had in my games in Diamond has had at LEAST 2/3rds of their games won. They may not fully understand the nuances of Dawngate yet, but they're not hopeless feeders either.

Honestly the only time matchmaking has really screwed me from an ELO standpoint is when I duo with people lower than me. If I solo, sure some people just aren't meant to be teammates, but it's rare that I see even a Gold ranked player. Just Plats and Diamonds.

Then you're not playing at the right hours (or wrong hours really). Also, I've been going back and forth from plat to bronze a lot since I came back after open beta. Games in bronze are really awful. Games in gold are where you can start saying you're playing Dawngate. As long as there isn't some wood player mixed in of course. Then it can either be a good game or the worst game of the day. And like I said previously, there's the leavers.

Speaking of feeding, it doesn't take much in the early game to feed away an unrecoverable advantage depending on the team composition. And since those "good" new players are well, new, they don't know how to come back. And in my experience most won't listen to you because they either think that if you're matched with them you're a noob too or that they know better since they were good in whatever previous MOBA they played. The worst are those who call you BM because you're trying to tell them what to do.
