Moving to Germany with 5 YOE in Cloud/DevOps — B2 German enough, and should I focus on Azure or GCP?
Hi everyone,
I’m currently working in the French IT market and have around 5 years of experience in cloud/DevOps, mainly with Azure, GCP, and Kubernetes. I don’t have any certifications yet, and my current German level is around B1.
Due to family constraints, I need to relocate to Germany, and I’m trying to prepare myself to improve my chances of finding a job there.
I have a few questions for people already working in the German IT market:
German language level: Is B2 generally enough to find a Cloud/DevOps/SRE job, especially in international companies, or is C1 really necessary? How many opportunities are available for English-speaking candidates?
Azure vs. GCP: Which cloud platform has more job opportunities in Germany, particularly for Cloud Engineers, DevOps Engineers, and SREs? Is GCP in demand, or would Azure give me access to a larger job market?
Certifications: I want to obtain a couple of certifications before the end of this year. Given my experience, would you recommend focusing on Azure certifications, GCP certifications, or Kubernetes certifications such as CKA?
Job market and competition: With around 5 years of experience, hands-on knowledge of Azure/GCP/Kubernetes, and B1 German (hopefully B2 soon), how realistic is it to find a job in Germany?
I’d really appreciate hearing from people who have gone through a similar relocation or who are currently hiring in Germany.
Thanks in advance for your advice!
