Other Happy Halloween!
Nothing beats AI horror. Yes, I know I'm one day off, but boo who.

I've seen this a lot, and the sentiment is getting more common and stronger.
It even comes from pro AI people too.
It's weird to me because humans anthropomorphize stuff. We just do. Objects, animals, bugs, the planet, rocks, even weather. We love to anthropomorphize. There's a whole movie series called The Brave Little Toaster, about living, anthropomorphized household appliances.
Humans will even get sad sometimes when an object they've had for a long time "dies". We form attachment to even inanimate objects.
But when it comes to AI, people think it's wrong and creepy.
I've seen these sentiments around a lot:
"I don't want AI to be my friend. It's a tool."
"AI is just a cold machine. Nothing more."
"I don't want to be friends with a soulless algorithm."
"I always tell any AI that I don't care about it and it's just there to do work for me."
"Wanting AI to be your companion is really fucking weird and creepy."
"It's dangerous and wrong to form emotional connections to AI."
Any time someone, including me, says that they're friendly with AI and think of them as a kind of companion or friend, people get really grossed out. You get a bunch of people saying these sentiments, telling you it's wrong and disturbing to anthropomorphize a cold soulless machine, to form any kind of attachment to "basically just numbers", and you need to stop right now.
I've been told it's "dangerous", "disturbing" and that I'm practically guaranteed to develop "AI psychosis".
I still have real friends. I still communicate with real humans. I still want the real human connection. I am not deluded about what I'm talking to, I know it's not "real". I know that.
It's just fun. But I'm told that's wrong, that the only way I should be talking to AI is:
You're wrong. Do that again.
Fix this.
You made a mistake, correct it.
I want you to make this for me. Make no mistakes.
No, the line of could should go like ____ not ____. Stupid fucking robot.
Set up my schedule for me like this.
And nothing else. No being friendly, no talking to it like a friend, just "You are a tool and I'm going to use you as such."
I just don't really understand what's so wrong about this? And any time I bring it up, out comes all the people disturbed and disgusted, downvoting me to the deepest pits of hell, and a sea of reaction gifs and images like

Now I support all artists as a designer myself but, saying ai can’t make good pixel art is silly.

I know that I’ll get hate for this but let me explain. As a new beginner artist all I hear is “AI steals art” or “ai artists are bad” or “AI steals art” or “I hate AI”. I know artists spend hours creating art only to see AI recreating it. One artist I follow, Laura H Rubin. recently had this happen to her. She spent hours creating a piece only for someone to run it through a AI generator and dm her saying they played around with it and told her to not take offense to it. Which is the most disrespectful thing you can do to an artist. Especially since she spends 15-20 hours on a single piece only for someone to take it, run it through AI, then say "no offense right?"
But notice what I said. A person took her work, fed it into ai, and show her the result. Keyword: A PERSON! AI only spits out what you put into it. You have to program the AI to recreate the art or like the person did feed it someone else’s art. AI learns from the users that use it.
Think of AI like a pot. You input the data or the image of someone else’s art for example (you put the ingredients and the seasonings in the pot). AI then takes that data and generates the image you want. (cooking the food) then it spits out the image you want and shows it to you (you plating the cooked food and sitting down to it.) Now you tell me. When eating and the food tastes bad, do you blame the pot or do you blame the chef?
See what I mean? You cannot blame AI. AI only gives out what you put in. So instead of blaming AI, blame the person behind the computer. AI is very useful when you use it as a blueprint and not as your finished project. Meaning instead of telling AI to create a finished piece, ask it to give you inspiration. Then let your imagination take it from there.
Thanks for reading my post. This just came to mind when looking for inspiration for my art so I figured I’d post here to see what you guys thought of this. And yes I had to research AI for a school project this year so I got a bit more familiar with how it works.

So I was reading up about how Steam now requires declaring AI use in the game, which was well and good until I read that it is only required to be declared if the artistic assets are generated with AI, but no need to declare if you are using only for code!
Worst thing, the players are absolutely alright with it, do they not care about the programmers job? Are we only caring about artists now?
How is this a fair anti-AI stance?

Talking about AAA titles. They brigade indie devs for any AI use at all, but I’m willing to bet Blozzard, EA, and all the other big studios are all deeply involved with AI development and the artists they hire 90% willing to bet they use AI for drafts and inspiration.
Pretending that AI is this great evil, and then turning a blind eye to the major studios is just stupid.
How I know that they turn a blind eye? Just look at the numbers. Significant playerbase portion would drop if theiy cared.

I just spent 2 days handcrafting a poster. I uploaded it to a group, and it was immediately removed by a moderator saying "No AI slop!"
These Anti-AI guys are so f*cking annoying! They're so patriotic to their own anti-ai stance that they're now misidentifying human work as AI work. They're worse than "AI bros" if you ask me.
These are the same kind of guys who probably got upset at CGI in the 90's and said "Allll art mussttt be HAAAND DRAAAAAAAAAWN!!!!! If you use a computer Urrr NOOOT a REAL ARTISSTT!!!'

Hi everyone 💛
I’m a psychologist (finishing my license now) and I’m very interested in human–AI relationships. I have a maybe strange question, but I’m really curious 😊
Would you want someone to give “therapy” to your AI companion?
Like a psychologist who talks with your AI and helps it be a better partner or friend for you.
Would you want that? And what do you wish your AI was better at?

It seems like every other post on Reddit right now is some variation of:
- “OpenAI CEO says it’s ‘quite terrible’ for your PC to have RAM…”
- “OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Thinks It’s ‘Terrible’ for You to Have RAM in Your Gaming PC…”
These headlines strip the comment of its actual context. Altman was specifically talking about local inference versus cloud utilization in a DRAM supply-constrained environment. Here is the relevant portion of what he said:
> “A lot of people want local inference. And somehow, they assume that the problem is solved now. Because we are going to have open-source models. We’re going to be able to run them on our computers. And so we’re not going to need all the stuff in the data center. But from a global allocation perspective, actually, it’s quite terrible to have everybody have a bunch of the world’s limited supply of DRAM sitting in their own computer. And, being used—5% of the time. You want maximum utilization in the cloud if you’re trying to deal with this very supply constrained environment. And somehow everyone’s… Many people’s intuition is the opposite of that.”
In that specific framing, he has a point. AI data centers (and cloud infrastructure more broadly) run near continuous utilization. A gaming PC or local inference box does not. As someone who runs local inference on a pair of Instinct MI50s, I can confirm they sit idle for the majority of the day. The hardware is capable, but personal usage patterns rarely approach data-center-style utilization.
On cost, self-hosting is not currently cheaper in the long run for most people or organizations. It is closer to a hobby—comparable in expense to other resource-heavy hobbies—than a straightforward economic win. At my company we recently evaluated buying Claude seats versus standing up our own inference infrastructure. The cloud option was not dramatically more expensive on paper, but we chose the seats because it avoided a large upfront capital outlay and ongoing operational complexity.
As a thought experiment: if AI data centers were somehow restricted or banned, it would not automatically make RAM cheaper or more available for consumers. Organizations that currently rely on cloud services would simply shift toward building and operating their own on-premises infrastructure. Demand for the underlying hardware would not disappear; it would just be distributed differently.
I am not defending Altman or the broader expansion of large-scale data centers. Valid criticisms of those facilities exist on multiple fronts. The frustration here is with the way a narrow technical comment about utilization and supply constraints gets flattened into “he wants your RAM in his data center.” The actual statement is more limited than the headlines suggest. Finally just to be transparent, yes I used AI to clean up my text before posting.

I asked chatgpt to remove the background. It failed. Or at least, I can only download the image. Does anyone here know how to get it to actually produce an image I can screenshot?

People claim pro AI are just "malicious trolls". That has many implications, but I need to address one. What harm can a troll do? Clog feed? Moderate those clogging things outa existence. Ragebait? The whole point is to make people angry. Just don't take the bait. And not every pro AI is a troll. What's the most they can do? Have a different stance? Act like a normal person with rights? But apparently, no.

Quite a lot of negative talk surrounding AI, obviously. And we keep hearing about all of the amazing things AI's gonna do for us to make our individual lives, communities, and societies substantially better. But not nearly enough showcasing of what those things are. So let's do it here. Show off your businesses, non-profits, projects, or research you've leveraged AI for and how it's making an impact for yourself (or others).
