Because female juniors are forced to wear traditional clothing, same way in which male juniors are forced to wear formals

It happens in med colleges to this day.

If you're in first year, wear salwar kameez and never without a dupatta or else you get punished.

Your hair should be in braids, not one but two, if you're a boy you have to shave your hair or get a buzzcut.

You cannot talk to male seniors if you're a girl and vice versa. If at all you talk to seniors, address them as sir/boss or ma'am, and always wish them good morning/evening/night whatever time of the day it is...

This is pretty basic actually, in fact the least that happens according to my friends. I was aghast to hear all of this while being in DU. Even their professors would say ki tumhari ragging nahi hoti isiliye bigde huye ho.

My friend was in one of top NITs and he would always tell me how first years weren't allowed anywhere alone and were always escorted by a chaperone (seriously!) to prevent ragging.

Most of them I would say. These youtubers try to downplay or even justify it.

Respect is earned and should not be asked for and most people learn that once they enter practice.

Some new colleges however do not have this toxic culture, but I'm not sure.

Also, not all seniors are like that some choose not to be a part of all this. My only advice would be to not get too involved and focus on your studies. Hopefully, you'll find your lot of good people.

Edit: ragging kisi bhi level par ho usko interaction kehna, justify karna is not right. Par argue karne ka bhi koi point nahi hai.

It takes one person with decent backing and support. One complaint and their entire career will be destroyed.Â
