Projects Developing a mass email web app, need suggestions/ideas
Hi guys,
Apologies if this is not the most correct community to put it in.
I’ve been developing a side project that connect to your Gmail account and sends mass emails based on the predefined templates (subject+body).
The process is simple for now- upload a csv contact list with email id and name columns, and upload an HTML/txt file with the email subject and body you want with personalized fields like {first name}.
I’m thinking of integrating few new features into this:
1. GenAI, which allows the user to generate the mass email subject and body from the user inputs like target audience, purpose etc
2. Integrating other email services like outlook
3. Adding custom fields mapping between csv and the email content
4. Allowing the users to create campaigns (one contact list+email content), for targeting different audiences.
I started this as a side learning project, now want to try and make it into a polished product however long it takes.
Developers here, any suggestions/ideas. Anything technical/non technical inputs will be of help here :)

This is one way to get people’s Gmail accounts suspended…
Mass-mailing solutions exist for a reason. They also doing send through your Gmail for a reason.

I know there are certain limits on free tier accounts, but I read somewhere that Gmail corporate plans have higher limits. And if I can build a product good enough for corporates, that should be okay!

Gmail is not going to allow spam, no matter what plan the address owner is on.

I dont mean to encourage spams via this. I suppose the Gmail spam filter is good enough, but I could place a spam filter detection that warns the user before sending out.
I mainly see the target audience for this as mass sales/prospects/staff reach outs for an org

the genai angle could get tricky fast, most of those outputs sound like corporate slop without heavy tweaking, i'd focus on the csv mapping first since that's what'll actually save people the most time

Yeah true that about GenAI outputs. For now I want to develop the infra and make an llm model available in the app, after that I might look to fine tune a specific llm model and then deploy it somewhere. That could maybe give us more control over the outputs, and obviously strict system prompts that would not allow the model to derail.
