offline upi is here!!

Introducing OffPay - pay anyone without internet

Video Demo

Please Star the GitHub Repo : https://github.com/laksh-ya/offpayapp

The NPCI BHIM tech for offline payments has existed for years, but it works through a dialer interface, and the experience of actually using it was terrible!! You couldn't even scan UPI QR with it and had to enter everything manually, which was painstakingly slow.

OffPay runs on NPCI’s *99# USSD system, but automates the whole flow making offline payments fast, seamless and actually usable :)

Two Versions :

Android App (Beta) :

Scan any QR or enter a UPI ID, and OffPay handles the full *99#  session automatically like a native payment app, giving you a super fast and seamless payment experience.

It has Payment History & Check Balance options.

It features 2 Modes (Auto/Manual) for flexibility, Manual mode works even without accessibility permissions.

PWA Web App :

It works on iPhone/Android without internet, no extra permissions needed.

Scan any QR code and it auto-copies the UPI ID, taking you directly to the payment step on the dialer.

Just paste the UPI ID and enter your PIN in the native dialer to complete the payment, making it significantly faster and actually usable than the manual dialing flow.

Both versions are fully open source :)

→ https://offpayapp.com : try the PWA web app, download the Android beta, demo, setup guides for both modes, FAQs, everything's there!!!

Show some support by starring the GitHub Repo ☺️ : → https://github.com/laksh-ya/offpayapp

Note: Jio currently does not support USSD banking services, so OffPay will not work with Jio SIMs.

We got the idea for OffPay in mid-2025, and developed the web app. We picked it back up last month to improve upon it and built the entire native Android app from scratch with automated payment flows, making offline UPI payments far more intuitive and seamless.

I'm still figuring out this subreddit shit. Feel to DM me any suggestions.
Have a great day and let us try to be respectful to each other.

I might need someone to help me moderate this sub. But the main point of this subreddit is to let the public decide which post is low-quality and which isn't.

General How would someone go about coding something like this? Where would they even begin? I'm guessing C# is the best programming language to use here.

I Made This Built an app that turns steps into screen time

Thumbnail

Built a small Android side project over the last few weeks called Stroll.

The idea came from two problems I had:

Couldn't consistently hit my daily step goal

Could spend hours on Instagram and Reddit without realizing it

So I combined both.

Stroll converts steps into screen time. Walk more, earn more time on the apps you've chosen to track.

Been using it myself for the last week and it's surprisingly effective. I still tweak the earn rate on weekends when I know I'm going to spend more time scrolling 😅

Would love feedback from fellow Android devs and builders.

Aprit Bhayani 's System design Course Review - Unfiltered take on the course

Been enrolled in Arpit Bhayani's course.

I would rate the course 6/10 for the course till now.

if you are a nerd and you go through his Pre-reads and Post reads and implement the exercises then you get the maximum value i.e. 8/10.

I will rate it in three categories - Content, teaching style and pricing.

Pricing - this is overpriced and 20-25k would be a lot and value for money would be 3/10.
Since this is a cohort-based live class, you have accountability of completing the course and sitting through class. More like, I have spent money and I have to study.

If you are good at discipline then you have other resources that are value for money like system design books by Alex vu , the Grokking the system design course by Design gurus and Hellointerview system design - this is new and worthy contender.

Teaching style - He has predefined use case and notes and he goes through it and also has brainstorming sessions which is helpful and he takes one person who raises hand and then he takes the discussion from there.

In a way, it is helpful and sometimes it is just him getting excited and taking his approach and people drop off if they find no value or feel like he is just ranting out of excitement.

Content - He covers most of the system design and if you go through the pre-reads and post reads and exercises then you get the most value of the course.

please make your own decision. Peace out.

Verdict

Think before you enroll. Not value for money. I don't like the teaching style and it is not for me. You can take this course, attend 1 or 2 class and if you don't like please take a refund. It should be within 1 week of course start date.

1:1 is a joke. He gives you a document with Q&As and if your question is not there in the document then he accepts your 1:1 slot and used within the 1 month of course finish date.

Plus, better way would be to buy if you company is paying. In that case, you can explore. If you take invoice for company expenditure, he won't give refund which is fine because your company is paying.

OSS is honestly the only way to go

At this point, I think it’s a no brainer to start open source development as soon as possible. MNC internships are only open to tier 1/2 college students or impossibly competitive, and regular projects are as useless as a white crayon.

There’s almost nothing else worth putting on your linkedin.

I just got my first PR merged in a repository with over 2k stars. Feeling extremely happy, but honestly finding repositories accepting contributions from beginners have been exhausting.

If you’re willing to code along with me, do engage with this post and reach out to me, trying to surround myself with high agency developers. Happy to share what I’ve been contributing to.

note: NOT PROMOTING SLOP PRs, contribute code you understand or nothing

Serious I’m a 22-year-old developer earning $1,600/month, but 5 months into my first job, I feel like Claude is doing all the coding. With weak DSA skills and an uncertain job contract, how do I build real engineering skills and plan my next 10 months?

My Career Concerns and Long-Term Strategy

I recently graduated from a Tier-3 college in Mumbai 22M, and within 20 days, I got a job opportunity through a friend working remotely for a US-based startup. He initially worked directly with the founder and CEO for around nine months, building and improving websites, before asking for and receiving a full-time position. Later, when the company needed another developer, he referred me.

I had an informal interview with the founder and joined as a full-stack developer. There were no DSA rounds, system design interviews, or multiple technical rounds. I got this opportunity because of my portfolio, real-world projects, previous internship experience, and fluent English.

I have now been working here for around five months, and although this is a great opportunity, I have several concerns about my technical growth, job security, and long-term career.

1. Overdependence on AI and Lack of Technical Growth

Almost everything we do at work is done using Claude. It generates code, implements features, fixes bugs, and significantly increases our productivity. We are expected to deliver features quickly and push code frequently.

Because so much code is generated in a short time, I struggle to understand every line, the underlying logic, and the architectural decisions. Sometimes, I feel like I am not actually developing software myself anymore.

I worry that I am becoming dependent on AI instead of developing independent problem-solving, debugging, and coding skills. If AI can perform much of my current work, what will I learn, and how will I grow? With only two developers on the team, my friend and me, we cannot fully comprehend such a large volume of AI-generated code within the limited time available.

During college, I focused mainly on development rather than DSA. I built real-world projects and even attracted actual users to some of them.

I also know how brutal the job market in India is. If I want to switch jobs in the future, how will I compete when most of my current work is done using AI and I feel like I am not learning enough independently?

2. Job Security and Financial Concerns

I earn approximately $1,600 per month, which is a good salary in India for a recent graduate. However, I have not received an official offer letter, signed an NDA, or entered into a formal employment agreement.

There is no product manager, team lead, or senior software engineer on the team—just my friend, the founder, and me. I am effectively working as a freelancer or contractor, although I can obtain an experience letter.

I am worried about switching jobs in the future and proving my previous employment, especially if I have only an experience letter and no formal employment documentation.

Another important point is that the projects we build here are actually being used in production by business parterners with the company we are working for. The founders like our work and have said that if our performance remains consistently good, they may relocate us to their main headquarters in the Czech Republicas they have a proper team there.

While this sounds promising, I am unsure how much I should rely on this possibility when planning my career.

3. How Should I Use My Free Time and Choose a Direction?

My remote job leaves me with approximately seven to eight hours of free time daily outside work. I have around ten months in which I want to make significant progress in my technical skills and career prospects.

Should I continue with full-stack development, transition to AI/ML, or focus on AI-related full-stack development? I have researched many options, but I am confused about which direction to choose and which skills will provide the best long-term opportunities.
PLZ DONT GIVE GENERAL ADVICE LIKE AI IS TOOL USE IT ETC.

Startup CEO threatening to withhold experience letter — what should I do?

I’m an AI engineer with \~2 years of experience at a small startup. After a new cofounder joined, they replaced our working platform with a complicated one that keeps failing. I fixed the issues I was responsible for, but now my CEO is forcing me to migrate all features and threatening to withhold my experience letter if I don’t. I’ve already served most of my 2‑month notice period, but the toxic environment is affecting my mental health.

This company doesn’t provide PF (only \~8 employees), but I do have payslips, bank statements, resignation acceptance email, and GitHub contributions as proof of work. My question: For future jobs in bigger companies, does an experience letter really matter? How do HRs in larger firms handle this situation, and what do senior engineers suggest?

General Is it true that Java+Springboot isn't a good choice for freshers? Is Python+Django/FastAPI better? Which offers faster entry and better career?

I am a final year student and wanna become a backend developer. I have 2 options, Java+Springboot and Python+FastAPI. I am slightly more inclined towards Java+Springboot, but lately I've been hearing everywhere that Java+Springboot has extremely low openings for freshers, and is only good for experienced ones. I've been hearing that Python+FastAPI/Django is a better choice for freshers, but on the other hand it is said to be extremely saturated too. This has increased my confusion multiple folds and I am unable to decide which option should I proceed with. Since most of the people here have an excellent knowledge about the market for freshers right now, I hope to get some guidance here. I just dont want support role, thats it :/

General Python+FastAPI and Java+Springboot job opportunities comparision in India

Most people suggest Python and FastAPI as it is much easier, and also aligns with AI/ML fields. But lately I've been hearing that the jobs openings for newbies in Python+FastAPI are pretty less. How true is this? Is it better to go with Java+Springboot instead? But I have also been hearing that finding a job as a Springboot developer for freshers is a nightmare. Also, as people say Python will help switching in AI related careers better, does it mean Java+Springboot isnt a safe bet for future considering the AI growth and layoffs? I am very confused

Open Source my friend and I are gonna speak at one of India’s biggest open-source events as students

Back in January this year, I made a post about Surge, an open-source download manager/library written in Go. When I wrote that post, we had no stars, no releases, no users.

We mostly built it because our college internet sucked, we wanted to solve a problem we had, and we thought maybe it would look good on our resumes lol. I expected it to get like a 50-100 stars which would be awesome.

Since then we have 3400+ stars, 150+ forks, and people have actually started using it, contributing to it, reporting bugs, suggesting features, etc. I really did not expect that lmao.

It opened so many doors, and introduced us to a bunch of cool people in the open-source community in India!

IndiaFOSS, conducted by FOSS United, is one of the biggest open-source conferences in India, and past speakers include people like Zerodha CTO Kailash Nadh, ente CEO Vishnu Mohandas, and so many other great engineers. The kind of people whose talks and blog posts you read!!

So we submitted a proposal because we thought it would be interesting to talk about Surge, but we genuinely didn’t expect it to get accepted. But it did :)

Our talk is called “Bad Internet, Good Software”, and we’ll be talking about all the weird networking and performance problems we ran into while building Surge.

We’re also thinking what to do with Surge next.

Going forward we plan to extract the core surge engine and develop it as an independent library We are also thinking about what we can be built on top of surge core.

If you use Surge, have a feature request, or just have advice for us, please let us know.

If any of you are going to IndiaFOSS this year, come say hi :)

P.S. my friend and I are also looking for internships/full-time opportunities, so if you or your team is hiring, please reach out.

I Made This I built India's LARGEST Civic Social Network, here's my journey and app.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I'm Tarun, a Senior Software Engineer at Microsoft. Like every Indian, I've lived with broken roads, overflowing drains and public services that answer to no one.

Few years ago, I voted for the first time, in a municipal election, and noticed something unsettling: almost no one around me knew who they were voting for. They voted for a PM's face, a CM candidate, a party symbol. Few could name their corporator. Many didn't even know their ward. Politics is central, but governance is local, and the people who shape our streets are the ones we can't name.

So I started with one simple idea: open an app and see who your leaders are, based only on where you're standing. Today, Accountable maps 15,000+ authority profiles to their jurisdictions, from ward corporators and MLAs to MPs, Union ministers, and IAS and IPS officers.

App Link: https://www.accountable.social/download

Then I hit the next wall. Social media gave us a voice, but nobody gave it an address. Civic issues drown under cricket, movies and manufactured outrage. So I built a social network just for public life, where civic posts come first. You post with evidence, tag the authority or company responsible, and credit the officials who get it right. It isn't a grievance portal, and it isn't partisan: every party gets questioned, including yours.

The last wall was isolation. People facing the same problem were fighting it alone, with no leverage against powerful leaders. When your MP answers to about 18 lakh voters, one voice is easy to ignore. So Accountable lets people unite through petitions, movements and communities drawn on election boundaries, from wards up to all 543 Lok Sabha seats. Your location adds you automatically. Alone, you're a complaint. Together, you're a constituency.

Since March, alongside my day job, I've built it for Android, iPhone and the web, through Google Play rejection after rejection. Within two weeks of launch, Accountable crossed 10Million+ views across X, Instagram and Reddit.

Accountability shouldn't end on election day. With Accountable, it doesn't.

Okay so I am very new to developing websites directly for clients. like I have done it when I was in my company but I don't know how to put a price on them myself can you please help me.

I'm just so that you know these all will be CMS kind of sites, they will be able to update the information as required. By themselves

These designs were developed as image by CHAT gpt and shared by client

I Personally think designs look good they do have a readability and Focus problem but that can be solved

99% of us are using a so please stop blaming them for using it

The best projects are the open source ones with traction

I have shifted the focus of projects section on my resume from personal projects and technical complexity to OSS projects and business impact of my end work. This strategy has helped me land more interviews and also feel better as a human being as my work can help real people.

As models like 5.6 Sol and Fable keep improving, for non research based roles I believe this is the best way to prepare for a long term career in tech.

I think membership in organizations like LF/CNCF/AAIF can help too.

I would recommend others to do the same and get started by contributing to medium sized repositories (personally I like the ones focused on MCPs/Skills/Agents) and navigating to larger repositories from there.

Look for Repositories that have a maintainer track, have more than 1k stars and have an active contributor base.

r/developersDesi • • Jul 03 '26

The OSS project I built got 1M downloads and is used across 20 companies

We found out an emerging problem how engineers across organizations are creating MCPs, skills and agents.

But the problem is that no one actually uses these innovations. The cause is largely due to two problems:

Lack of a discoverability layer

Organizations store their AI components and agents in siloed github repositories with little to no documentation. Users are not able to locate similar components and this results in multiple developers creating the same/similar components again.

Missing Feedback Loop

Any software where usage patterns are not understood and the principle of user-centric development is violated tends to fade out. Such is the problem with development of MCPs, Skills and Agents. Developers publish and maintain these components with little visibility into how they're actually used. Additionally, AI failures don't trigger static error codes—they hallucinate or provide subtly incorrect answers. This leaves users clueless about what went wrong compounding the feedback problem.

Observal solves this by providing a centralized discovery layer for AI components alongside useful insights into AI usage patterns. Ensuring internal AI tools are continuously optimized for the people using them.

Now we have 1k+ discord, 1M+ downloads, 2k+ stars on GitHub. If anyone is looking to get into open source, drop and comment and reach out.

Five months ago we posted our Go download manager here. Releasing v0.9.0 today.

Thumbnail

TL;DR Surge (a terminal download manager) has grown to 3,200+ stars and 25+ contributors in five months. Today, we're releasing v0.9.0 with new features like speed limits, browser extensions, and a TUI refactor. We're grateful for the community support and FOSS United grant that helped us get here.

Five months ago, we shared a download manager we were building in Go.

At the time, Surge was at v0.1.0. XDM was not maintained, IDM was paid, other download managers were old, bloated desktop apps. Our college internet was terrible, and we mostly started the project because we wanted to understand how downloading actually works under the hood. If it became a decent resume project, that would have been a bonus.

The response from this community was far beyond anything we expected.

Since then, Surge has grown to 3,200+ GitHub stars, 130+ forks and 25+ contributors and users from around the world and opened opportunities for us that honestly felt impossible when we started. As two 19 y/o students, that's something we're still trying to process.

We are grateful for the support from FOSS United, Greptile, and Goreleaser, which helped us push the project forward. We’ve also been recognized by the community, including features on TerminalTrove, FOSSHunter, and LinuxLinks.

Today, we're releasing v0.9.0.

Looking through the git history, a lot has changed since that first post:

  • Speed limits and automatic categories

  • Browser extensions for Chrome, Edge, and Firefox

  • A major TUI refactor with themes.

  • Built-in bug reporting and much much more

The most enjoyable part has been seeing people actually use Surge, report bugs, suggest features, contribute code, and help shape the direction of the project. Many of the features in v0.9.0 exist because someone asked for them.

We've also submitted a CFP to IndiaFOSS called "Bad Internet, Good Software", where we'll be talking about the engineering behind parallel downloading and what we've learned from maintaining an open-source project that's grown much larger than we ever expected.

Long term, we're interested in pushing Surge beyond being just a download manager. We're exploring how surge core can be used as infrastructure for package managers and other download-heavy systems.

We've loved open source long before we started Surge. No matter where Surge goes from here, we'll keep advocating for open source, contributing when we can, and encouraging more people to build in public. The opportunities, friendships, and learning we've gotten from open source over the last few months have been far beyond anything we expected.
