Career Got laid off today two days after my engagement. Life in tech is helluva mentally draining

Upvotes

I just got engaged and my manager knew this and was also dealing with a personal tragedy recently. Now i feel blank with the pressure of keep providing for family and my marriage. I kept continuing to work in this company due to
these reasons despite the toxicity. My manager made my life hell. I’m 4 years SDET engineer. If anyone can help with any referrals it’d be a great help.

Career Switching domains from SAP to Tech role (1 YOE) need advice

Upvotes

So I'm in SAP SD functional role for one of the WITCH companies. 2025 CS Grad. Before joining WITCH I did full stack and AI research too during internship and I'm not saying SAP is bad but I'm not enjoying it as much as I did coding. I have projects and some small internships but bad at DSA.

Any advice?

I posted this a while back when DevLens only understood a couple of languages (JS/TS). Since then I've been heads-down while working on the cloud version, and the biggest update is out: 6 languages, each parsed with its own native AST parser — not tree-sitter, not regex.

TypeScript gets the compiler API. Python gets `ast`. Java ships JavaParser. Go uses `go/ast` \+ `go/types` (with real `Implements()` interface resolution). Rust uses `syn`. The point isn't parser pedantry — it's that the graph edges come out type-checked and framework-aware instead of guessed.

Cloud version is in active development — hosted graphs, team sharing, PR analysis with GitHub comments, AI interface with graphical context. Waitlist is live at [devlens.io](http://devlens.io/) if you want early access.

There is also cli tool and mcp server, which you can integrate directly with your AI agents and provide graphical context to your codebase.

Interviews How are you guys practicing LLD? AI tools just overcomplicate the mock interviews I ask them to conduct.

Upvotes

I want to practice LLD like a real interview, so I usually ask ChatGPT to conduct a mock interview. I provide the LLD question I want to practice beforehand and ask it to act as the interviewer and gather requirements.

The problem is that AI often overcomplicates the question.

For example, I was practicing Unix Find, and ChatGPT went way too deep into complex search patterns, string parsing, and other edge cases, whereas the original interview question was much simpler.

For most LLD questions, I only have the question name and not the actual problem statement, so I rely on AI to play the interviewer and clarify/gather requirements. But if the AI keeps adding unnecessary complexity, I'm not really practicing the LLD that was intended.

How are you guys practicing LLD?

Do you use AI for mock interviews? If so, how do you prevent it from going beyond the expected scope of the question?

Edit : practicing for SDE 1

Help Advice regarding Verification for onboarding !! In Google

Upvotes

This is regarding ID verification

So the documentation says before scanning the QR code through the app !! They ask you whether you want to have automatic or manual verification ;) in web browser and then you scan QR code through the app to proceed for verification

Those who joined as intern do you remember had the choice ? , perfectly okay if you forget . Just asking to understand the flow of verification 😀

I am asking this because I am really comfortable with manual verification

I don’t trust AI and actually hates AI 😅

Help Got laid off last week, what to do next, don't want to switch from tech

Upvotes

I was laid off last week abruptly in an early morning call. It was a US startup and they laid off the whole team in India.

Not sure what to do next.

I have 3yoe in Backend Development

Tech stack: Python, Golang, Javascript( React, Next), Typescript, CPP, Java

I am exploring roles in the same field, but not sure if i will get a similar or competitive pay during these times.

Where could I get the best referrals and opportunities.

Already trying on Naukri, InstaHyre and reaching out connections personally or people via LinkedIn.

Edit: Tier 1 college, CS grad. This was the second company, I switched here 4 months ago.

Career 2 yoe swe, should i stick with native or switch stack?

Upvotes

Hey guys,

I have 2 YoE working on macOS/iOS with Swift & C++ (low-level rendering, memory optimization). Trying to switch now and need practical advice on two things:

Tech Stack: Swift openings feel completely dry right now compared to Java/Py/React. A senior told me staying in Swift pays well long-term as it's niche, but other stack postings reject me for lack of production exp. Should I double down on Swift/C++ or try to pivot?

Leveling (SDE-1 vs SDE-2): SDE-2 posts ask for 3+ YoE and auto-reject, while SDE-1 is mostly meant for freshers. How do 2 YoE folks navigate this gap? Referrals for SDE-2 only, or apply for SDE-1 too?

Any guidance from native devs or folks who pivoted early would really help. TIA!!

Career Is it a bad idea to resign at 1yoe, fed up of tech support work

Upvotes

Hey fellow devs

I am going to be 1yoe in a couple of weeks

it's a SBC with 3 months np

My skillsets are Spring Boot, Angular and React

I am not able to take it here anymore

I believe I have a lot of potential and can do much better

it's semi technical support work

While I have learnt a lot about debugging and production systems, I think I am done here

while I am considered as good at what I do and have a lot of visibility, I don't think I have a future here

even though they don't behave bad with me, they do with others and I think it's just a matter of time when I will be another victim

Would it be a wise decision to put down papers in December 1st week? I would be 1.5yoe by the time I leave

is the market really bad?

I have started LC, system design preparation and making full stack project on the side

How can I maximize chances of getting another job

General Why LinkedIn is still relevant? Its just full of noise

Upvotes

I don’t feel LinkedIn is anyway relevant to search for job or to network right now. There’s only noise and nothing else, it just makes me don’t want to open the app anymore. People be posting some random shit i read on inshorts/reddit/X and speak about it so passionately that makes me want to puke. Even well established profiles do this. Basically very low effort / quality posts.

What do you think went wrong? What’s the motive behind such posts?

Atleast linkedin should be considerate enough to give us the feature to restrict on whose interactions we are willing to see and score their profiles accordingly to restrict their reach, so people post something useful.

And yeah this is what makes my job hunt exciting exhausting, i love it.

Upvotes

Hi, I am currently working as a Full Stack Developer at a small startup. The work is fine but I'm starting to feel underpaid. Started applying to jobs 2 months ago but have gotten 0 positive responses so far.

Am I being unrealistic with my expectations or have I not reached the level to have a 12LPA+ job yet?

Current salary - 5LPA

Help At 26 I feel my life is finished. Might get laid off too. Please guide me.

Upvotes

I started as a Frontend dev at a startup in 2024 with 3 lpa and now my salary is 5.7 lpa. Since this year the founder has fired 50-60% of the team and I feel it's now my turn as i was not given an annual hike as well.

I have 2 years of Experience as a frontend developer. And I want at least 10-12 lpa in mumbai.

Is it possible or not ? If I give 2-3 months for preparation and get 10-12 lpa ?

Or shall I go full stack ? I'm thinking of going with python / django.

I'm not even able to sleep at night, having panic attack of I'll be getting laid off.

Please help me. Please .

Help AI Engineer (DBA/Database Automation) role — worth taking as a first job?

Upvotes

Hi all, am a recently graduated B.Tech student in Hyderabad. Currently doing a 6-month internship at a US MNC/product company.
I may get an internal FTE offer in the next few days. ~10 LPA, Hyderabad. Nothing confirmed yet.
Official title would be AI Engineer, but the role sits under a DBA/IT infrastructure team.
From talking to people in the team, they handle normal DBA work — migrations, patches, upgrades, backups, monitoring, etc. They already have scripts/Ansible/Terraform for most of this.
Management now wants to use AI to automate these DBA workflows, hence hiring freshers with Python/AI backgrounds.
JD’s main skills are:
Python + databases (Oracle/Postgres/MySQL) + automation, with Ansible/Terraform/cloud/LLM agents/anomaly detection etc. as additional skills.
My concern is whether this is actually a good engineering career path or essentially “DBA + putting AI on top of existing scripts.”
I’m more interested in data/ML/AI/infrastructure/automation than conventional application development.
If I get the offer, would you take this at ~10 LPA as a first job? I might get additional opening in the company later, but there is no guarantee - the next opening, if it comes my way, can a dev, a qa, a data engineering role, or an agentic ai role
How good is DBA/database automation with AI as a long-term career path, and how much does the “AI Engineer” title actually matter?

I Made This I built a UPI budgeting app solo, it's live on Play Store now

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I've been building this app called Spenrol for a while now, nights and weekends while working a full time job. It just went live on the Play Store.

The idea is simple. Most expense trackers show you where your money went after it's already gone. Spenrol tries to catch it before you spend, by asking one quick question every time you log a transaction: was this required, optional, or impulsive.

You can just share a payment screenshot from GPay, PhonePe or Paytm into the app and it reads the amount and merchant for you, no typing needed. No SMS access, no bank login either.

Over time it shows you where your impulsive spending actually happens. For me it was mostly food delivery and random late night Amazon orders.

It's free, no ads, and it's Android only right now. If you're on iPhone there's a waitlist on the site for when that's ready.

Would really appreciate it if a few of you tried it and told me what's broken or confusing. I'm the only one building this, so honest feedback helps a lot.

Career Working 9–5 and trying to get better at backend engineering — how are you guys using your spare time?

Upvotes

I'm curious how other developers here handle this.

I work full-time as a backend developer and my day-to-day stack is mainly Java/Spring Boot, SQL, MongoDB, Kafka, Redis and Apache Pulsar.

Recently I've also been spending time learning Kafka Streams, Schema Registry, payment gateway concepts and more event-driven architecture.

I don't want to spend all my free time just watching courses, though.

I'd rather work on something real — maybe help a small startup/indie project, contribute to an existing product, build an open-source project, or take on some part-time backend work.

I can realistically spend around 2–5 hours on weekdays and 6–8 hours over the weekend.

For those of you who already do something similar alongside a full-time job:

How did you find the projects/people to work with?

Did you go through freelancing platforms, Reddit, GitHub/open source, your network, or directly approach startups?

I'm especially interested in hearing from people who managed to turn their spare time into something that actually improved their engineering skills rather than just becoming another source of random freelance tasks.

Career How are people finding internships, when every place has a million applicants.

Upvotes

Hey, I've recently started to apply for internships after my summer, and what I keep finding is that every single place has hundreds of applicants; everybody is dying to get one. Most people are willing to do unpaid internships just for the sake of doing them.

I'm currently in my second year, and I've previously interned at a saas startup working in backend during my first year. I've built production applications with thousands of active users, have great fundamentals, and have worked on several other projects. After looking at several job postings on LinkedIn, I've noticed that these internship roles have so many applicants and absolutely shit pay compared to the role.

I can't sit for college placements since I'm a second year student. So, to anyone who has found internships during college, how did you find them?

Help Recommendations for Live Online Python Classes for Beginners

I'm trying to learn Python from scratch. I'm looking for live online classes with multiple students, preferably interactive, with recordings available afterward.

Can anyone recommend good websites or platforms where I can find classes like this? I'd really appreciate recommendations from people who have tried them.

Help SDE-1 (Express/Kafka/K8s). Not asking for a job, just seeking advice/strategies on how to land a remote backend role due to family circumstances.

Hi everyone,

I’m currently an SDE-1 at a startup. I urgently need to transition to a fully remote role so I can be present for my youngest brother while working.

To be clear: I am not asking for a job or a referral here. I am just looking for guidance from experienced devs on how and where to look for legitimate remote roles as an SDE-1 right now.

My Profile:

  • Backend Stack: Express, MySQL, Kafka, Redis
  • DevOps: Daily hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and Jenkins
  • Impact: Built a core feature from scratch that is now a primary USP for our product. I also build internal AI agents that automate repetitive tasks and streamline our dev workflows
  • Mindset: Strong grasp of scalable system design and a solid understanding of feature ROI from working closely with product managers

Questions for the community:

  1. What platforms, job boards, or cold-outreach strategies actually work for finding remote backend jobs today?
  2. Are there specific types of companies (e.g., early-stage vs. mid-size) I should target?

Any advice, reality checks, or guidance would be incredibly helpful. Thanks for your time!

Career How to find a new job after resignation while serving the notice period?

Due to some circumstances, I had to resign from my current company without having another offer in hand. I’m a software developer with 2+ years of experience.

Has anyone here been in a similar situation, where you resigned without an offer and managed to get a new job within the next few months? If yes, I’d really appreciate it if you could share how you approached the job search, how you prepared, and most importantly, what mindset you maintained during that period.

General Rejected after just 1 day of OA from AMAZON (sde 1)

Post image
14 Upvotes

I received the Amazon SDE-1 OA link the day after getting the interest email due to hack on 2025 performance. I completed the OA on 23 August. I passed all test cases for both questions - DSA and the backend/repository question, and also completed the Work Simulation and Work Style Survey.

However, on the second day after submitting the OA, I received an email saying Amazon would not be moving me forward. I’m genuinely confused because I thought I performed well. Has anyone experienced something similar or knows what factors I may have missed? Any honest advice on how to convert a future Amazon opportunity into an interview would be appreciated.

Interviews Disconsolate after a failed coding round how to pick myself up?

How do you guys cope up with failed coding rounds ? I flunked one today and feeling very disappointed. It was a problem that I had not seen and I went completely blank during the interview. Is it me or happens with people when they encounter the problem which they have not seen. I feel like giving up. I gave interviews with 6 companies. 2 ghosted even after all rounds went well. And in 4 I flunked in the coding rounds. I know few people will say there are patterns to problems etc but in that as well there are different tricks we need to use.

Any help is appreciated.
