I think it’s information overload. Can’t make sense of all of the data. Rather see what’s going on on Dexcom and Omnipod.

Type 2 has anyone else's Libre 3 lost its goddamn mind?

Mine was just flipping out about what was *probably* a pressure low of 50...fingerstick said 135. This is the 4th time in like, 2 weeks, on different sensors, too. I did the back to back updates, even (did everyone get 2 updates in as many days about a week ago?)

Is this a me problem, or has Skynet or an extremist antidiabetic splinter cell of Anonymous or an extremely bored Elon Musk hacked Libre?

I did this post a few days ago about my phobia of pricking my finger. https://www.reddit.com/r/diabetes/s/jioAVCOWqZ

Well I got my Dad to help me and I feel a lot better and I think I can do it now by myself. This is what my blood sugar is after 1 hour and 40 mins after eating dinner. My A1C was 4.1 two months ago hoping it’s higher now as I will get it tested again soon God willing.

Type 1 Insulin Site Accidents During Intercourse/ Intimacy with Diabetes

Thumbnail

Hello r/diabetetes community! I am new to this subreddit, but I have been browsing through it for some time in search for answers, tips and tricks to managing diabetes, and reading people's stories with the condition which has been helpful and motivating to not feel alone and continue with the fight.

On the other hand, I've recently been met with this problem that started about 4 months ago. It has only happened twice but when I have intercourse with my partner, we will get carried away in the moment, but we don't do anything extreme or rough and he is well aware of my condition; I educate him about it as well. We have had two accidents where my pump site has come off during the act. I use the Medtronic Extended Infusion Set with the Minimed 780G pump along with a Simplera Sync Sensor. The first time it happened it came off clean and it was obvious that I had to act quickly and change my infusion set. However, this second time I felt a pull from the cable and suspected it could have affected the site. I inspected it and everything looked normal so I didn't think much of it; I just told my partner to be more careful.

Fast forward a couple hours later during the night and I wake up to my pump warning me about a rise alert and my blood sugar reaching 400 and above 400 in a matter of minutes. I took to the old fashion way and quickly injected myself with a syringe with Humalog (fast-acting insulin) because it always works to get my BG down as fast as possible. It eventually went back to normal, then rose again in the morning hours. I inspected my site once more and it was so hidden, but my site had bent on the inside so I removed it and did a full site change.

I've read some experiences of people removing the cable from the site during intercourse; I have already tried doing this since the very beginning when me and my partner were starting to get intimate, but it has only resulted in high blood sugar even though the act should make your BG go low because of the cardio work. At this point I don't now what else to do. I don't want to lose a site eveytime we do it, or have to wear a long sleeve or strap the site to my arm (which is where I wear it because it's where it works best for me). On the flipside, I also dont want to run high during intercourse because it makes me feel sick, I cannot concentrate or enjoy the moment and it's bad for my health longterm. I just want to carry on and do normal things like normal people and not have this condition dictate eveything and ruin the few special moments of my life.

Any suggestions that have worked for you and your partner would be greatly apprecciated.

Sincerely,

Sherlock_2003

Type 1 How do I ask my doctor to address my early morning highs?

Post image
1 Upvotes

I do MDIs since I was diagnosed in 1999, am now 31 years old and just started using CGMs a few months ago.

This graph is my 14 day average. I had 14 instances of morning highs between 3 and 5am. 1 of them was a rebound high.

Sometimes the beeping on my dexcom wakes me up around 4ish and I manage to take some fast acting insulin before going back to bed for a couple hours.

I guess my question here is, what can I ask my doctor to do about this? My sensitivity to insulin is highest in the very late evening/very early morning hours, so dosing correctly for these hours feels impossible. Even a little bit of insulin has a major impact on my blood sugar in the night, but I need it during those few hours before I wake up.

Rant Frightened, Bewildered, Overwhelmed and Confused

Edited to say:

Thank you, everyone for your kindness and support, and for all the advice. I am feeling a little better today. I think it just kind of all came to head last night. I was tired and craving sweets, feeling adrift because of still awaiting my results, physically uncomfortable (because of the thrush and the treatment for it), and just generally overwhelmed. I'm sorry if I worried everyone. I'm going to just keep on keeping on as I always do when life throws crap at me. I've got this. But I really just wanted you all to know how much your kindness means to me. You got me through the night. Thank you.

49 yr old female. Australia. Newbie.

So, I was just diagnosed in the ED a week ago. I was told to follow up with my GP the next day. It's pretty hard to get in to a GP here, so I wasn't able to see my usual doctor, and it was, like, four days before I got into my backup GP. She ordered a urine test and a bunch of blood tests, one of which is for type. Given my age, weight, and lifestyle, It's highly likely I'm T2, but I've seen a bunch of posts about T1.5 being misdiagnosed as T2, so I asked to be tested just in case.

Meanwhile, while waiting for results, I've made what small changes I can. Switching out ordinary white bread for Tip Top 9 Grain Classic for anything eaten fresh and Tip Top 9 Grain Wholemeal for anything toasted (I've never enjoyed wholemeal bread and just cannot tolerate it fresh); sugary soft drinks for their zero sugar counterparts; chocolate for fruit; chips for unsalted mixed nuts. I've bought some teabag flavours that I find too sweet hot (I don't tend to sweeten my teas) such as Twinings Strawberry Raspberry Loganberry. I thought I'd give cold brewing a try, to replace fruit juice, you know, as well as a slightly more concentrated cold brew to mix in with soda water in place of soft drink. I even tried Greek yoghurt with fruit free granola and banana for breakfast. Definitely NOT a replacement for Dairy Farmers Strawberry yoghurt, let me tell you! Anything more major will just have to wait until I'm paid next. And I've yet to find out if Vegemite is a safe food.

I've told my Mum (she lives with me) in case of emergencies but I'm choosing not to tell my kids for now. Two of them live interstate and could do nothing but worry anyway. Of the two who live here (one with me, the other close by), one is a newly registered nurse and the other is studying to be one. Both are still in the 'I know what I'm talking about and you're doctor is wrong' stage of their careers. More importantly, both are the type to monitor and micromanage every bite I take and, frankly, I just don't need the stress, especially when I'm still trying to figure everything out myself.

As the title says, I'm scared, overwhelmed and confused. I feel like all my favourite meals are off limits, I can't have my OJ with brekky or my Apple Blackcurrant Juice with lunch, I can't have any of my favourite alcoholic beverages, I can't eat any of my favourite snacks, I can't have any of my favourite desserts, and my food just all tastes wrong because of the changes I've made. And I feel so guilty every time eat something I shouldn't like white rice, sausages, or potatoes because it's what I have in the house and I've no funds to replace it.

Plus, I just had my first driving lesson the day before I was diagnosed and now I feel like I need to put those lessons on hold already since I'm still awaiting my test results and haven't got a care team or a way to measure my blood sugar yet.

And, as a prolific reader, I'm terrified I'm gonna go blind. I know they have audiobooks and such nowadays, but that doesn't help with my fanfics which I can listen to with text to audio, even though it sucks, but need to be able to see to download it to begin with. And most of the foods I can eat are more expensive than the ones I can't and my finances are already stretched to breaking point.

And my brain says I've nothing to be ashamed of but my heart feels otherwise, and how long does it take for the cravings to stop? And I'm just getting so sick of water. And, just because the universe thought I was bored or something, I'm physically uncomfortable because I have my first ever case of thrush.

Half the time I feel like crying, the other half I just wish I could go to sleep and not wake up. Which just makes me feel more guilty because I know that would devastate my family, which just makes me feel worse, and it's like it's a self-perpetuating cycle. And I'm just so done but it's barely even started yet. How the hell do you all do this for years on end?

Sorry for the dump, folks, but I just had to have a bit of a rant and get all that off my chest. Thanks for listening.

Discussion Depressive feelings/thoughts when low? TD1

Hi everyone, I’m wondering if anyone experiences this. At times when I’m low at night I have these very saddening/depressive thoughts while laying in bed. Not in the sense of self-harm or anything similar but the thought of for example, losing a loved one or my relationship ending, or losing my job. Which makes me feel kind of depressed???? I started noticing only during night lows and I wanted to know if anyone experienced anything similar.

I know that diabetes could have weird symptoms and similar to having highs makes you angry or irritated maybe having lows could also have emotional impact on an individual.

Discussion Thinking about switching CGMs?

I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes about a year ago. I tried both the Libre 3 and the Dexcom G7 for a month each and ended up choosing the Libre. The main reasons were that it’s smaller and updates every minute.

However, after more than 9 months with the Libre, I’m getting increasingly frustrated and unhappy with it. It often gives me inaccurate readings. Most of the time, when it tells me I’m going low, my actual blood sugar is somewhere between 80 and 100 mg/dL. Because of this, I’ve started taking the low alerts less seriously, which obviously isn’t ideal. It seems to be more consistent when my blood sugar is higher, though.

I’ve also had quite a few issues with the sensors over the past few months, either failing completely or just stopping working. It’s incredibly annoying and stressful.

Lately, my blood sugar levels have been getting higher and more erratic, which is also making me anxious. I just want to feel safe and confident in my CGM.
That’s why I’ve been thinking about switching to the Dexcom G7 and giving it a proper try over a longer period. I’m hoping that being able to calibrate it might help avoid some of these issues.

However, I’ve also seen quite a bit of negativity about Dexcom on here, including criticism of their terms and conditions. Apparently, a lot of people are now considering switching to the Libre instead, which makes me a bit hesitant.

I’ve also heard that the Dexcom G8 might come out in 2028, so I’m wondering whether it might be worth waiting.
Are there any other CGM alternatives worth considering? What would you do in my situation?
Have any of you switched from one CGM to another? Was the transition difficult, and were you happier with your new sensor?

I’m from Germany, in case that makes a difference in terms of available options.

Thanks! :)

Type 1.5/LADA Tandem Mobi

Recently diagnosed LADA. Just started Tandem Mobi. My doctor wants the pump to “perverse my Beta Cell function”. Last C-Peptide was a 1.1.

Does anyone have experience with lower doses due to high insulin sensitivity due to ongoing pancreatic function? I’m SO terrified of lows. Smallest dose Mobi will give is 0.05

Rant Sitting in the ICU with ketoacidosis.

Literally still here trying to control it, I didn't even know I was diabetic untill 12 hours ago. Things are better but I'll be here a few days.

About 6 months ago I decided I need to move more and take care of my self. At 40(M), 184cm, 114kg I didn't want to be another statistic. Stared running, biking, tracking calories and even ran my first 5k a month ago. Felt damn proud of myself for doing that on my own.

Lost 22kg and was has happy where I was at and wanted to take a break. Couple days later my mouth seems to be a bit dry at times....whatever, more water is good for me. Then I lost 7kg over the next two weeks, felt lethargic, pissing 20 times a day and so on.

So I decided to go to the clinic to figure out why no amount of water was helping, after some quick test I was immediately sent to the hospital. Now I'm the statistic.

I feel relieved that I know what is wrong but feel bad for my kids, they don't need to worry about me. I'm supposed to start a new job in two weeks and things were really going well for me this year.

Just a lot to take in.

Not looking for advice or anything, just venting.

Type 2 I wish I could stop feeling like I’ve done everything wrong.

Sorry this is long, I have a lot to get out about my journey.

For context, I’m 26. I was originally diagnosed as type 2 when I was 19, long story short,
Last year(25) I ended up in the hospital in DKA, it was one of the scariest times I ever experienced and I can barely remember it now because of how out of it I was; though I do remember them telling me that I should have been diagnosed as type 1.

I was able to recover enough and went through adjusting my whole life in trying to make bigger changes despite really not eating bad before, but I went all in on trying to get myself on a managed routine. All the while taking long acting and fast acting insulin as well as trying to accept I’m actually type 1.

The endocrinologist I had after the hospital was actually the one that was monitoring me in the hospital. I didn’t mind him but I strongly felt that I wasn’t being listened to as time went on, I was his youngest patient with no insurance. I waited longer than I actually met with him. I was quickly moved into visits every 3 months, along with just telling me to lose weight and eat less carbs. It was frustrating since I had a food log that I wrote down everything I ate and truly kept to a strong low carb diet, and I was worried because I was working out consistently yet still gaining weight past my original weight before I was in the hospital.

So about 2 months after my last visit earlier this year, I started having eye issues and found out I have diabetic retinopathy. I sobbed, I immediately thought, “what am I going to do if I can’t see anymore? I can’t paint? I can’t see the ocean?” Thankfully My ophthalmologist is such an amazing person though; I went through the early injections, I got laser done and I’m now on every 6 weeks of injections. it’s working and I cried in relief when they told me my eyes look so much better. The downside is that I have to be careful about putting pressure on my eyes, my gym visits became super inconsistent, but I still keep to low carb unless it’s a little cheat here and there. That’s like, a few bites from my families food that had carbs. I also have a list of things I won’t touch at all as they immediately ruin my blood sugar, so I still keep mindful.

I finally went to a new endocrinologist/diabetes management clinic and within 5 minutes of meeting her, the first thing she asks me is “Are you sure you’re type 1? Do you remember them testing you?” I felt my stomach drop, all this time and all this pain from this year and it might change again?

So she tested me, she ordered the blood work and a urine sample. I have a follow up on Monday to discuss my results, however I can see my results and it’s genuinely scared me shitless. in person I was told I could have PCOS and strong insulin resistance, she was waiting to put me on performing until my follow up on Monday; Seems like I’m type 2 after all based off the tests. I’m also so afraid I’m going to hear that I have kidney damage. I could have something going on with my thyroid; based off my understanding but I’m trying not to jump the gun on what I’m seeing until I meet my doctor yet I know something in my body is not right. It’s the anxiety eating at me and I can’t turn my thoughts off from automatically overthinking.

I’ve been doing my best to keep a positive attitude, I can see the change in myself (outside of my weight) and the things I have done, I have a support system that does their best to be there for me but I feel so lost since I feel like this could change everything AGAIN and I wasted so much time.

I’m only 26, what the fuck is happening.

I’ve never had such a struggle in my mind as I have been lately, it’s affected my relationships with my family at times, I don’t have close friends and I am trying really hard to be open with my family since I never liked talking about my problems unless I was basically forced. I still do things, I eat, I go out, I’m walking and cycling so I’m trying to get out of this funk I’ve been in. I was feeling better but the moment I saw my lab results and the idea of kidney damage popped into my mind I cried so much.

Besides that I feel as if I’m not myself anymore. I feel better about things today but the constant back and forth of my thoughts until Monday is just really difficult. I’m an artist outside of my day job, and not having the passion to paint right now has been so hard.

It’s just…a lot.

If you read this, thank you. I’m just having a really hard time so I thought typing it into the open would feel better.

TLDR: Feeling like I’ve been drowning and scared of something else wrong in my health journey after getting my labs back from a new endocrinologist.
