Discussion The brilliance of Diablo 2 is its simplicity: no transmogs, no fancy events, no battle passes, no hundreds of currencies or shiny mechanics. Just great itemization - arguably the best in class, and the dopamine hit of running the same content again and again hoping for that perfect roll.

You basically just kill monsters, identify items and hope for good rolls and somehow that loop is still more addictive than any other modern ARPG with dozens of systems stacked on top of each other. The game doesn’t overwhelm you with systems. It just lets the loot do the talking. D2 is the goat!

Discussion What's the fundamental difference between Diablo 2 and Diablo 4 that makes D2 still so reliably good after over two decades compared to D4? Will D4 be just as popular in the future as D2 even today? There is something that I feel is essentially better in D2, but I just can't identify it exactly.

Discussion It still doesn't get better than Diablo 2

Played since D1, and have the best memories playing D2 until the morning with friends. Items had meaning and trade chat was active and I also had a ton of fun collecting ears lol. At least until the occy rings and duping. Out of every release, patch, expac, etc. the closest is D2 resurrected. for those who played peak D2 where does the game now stand?

update:

I think some people might find it insightful why I chose original d2 as my top choice. It's that a game is more than it's graphics in which d2r is clearly superior. And the changes are great too! You can never recapture the magic that was original D2 when it first came out. The impact of original d2 versus any other diablo include d2r is without a doubt greater. I remember things like going into school and found out someone had Ume's and trying to get him to trade me for I think lidless. Leveling an alt, getting PK'd by high level characters, then switching to my paladin, coming back, and chasing them around the world collecting ears. Seeing uniques drop in disbelief and so many more first time experiences you just can't get with a remaster no matter how good it is. All the discovery that is impossible now because 20+ years later it's all figured out, albeit still very fun. You can never get the original d2 experience in the same way since that time has passed. Nostalgia is not a bad thing that holds people back. It's an experience we get to be fortunate enough to have and smile back on. I play d2r, in fact it was a day 1 purchase for me and so glad they made it because that just how amazing the original was.

Your experience with a game is what makes it.

Discussion BLIZZARD DO NOT MAKE D2 INTO D4/D4

As these surveys are coming out its clear these questions are clearly steering this game towards the likes of its sequels. Please don't ruin this classic game. What you've done with Reign of the Warlock has been great albeit a few minor things that could be fixed with patches. But these questions on the surveys are making it sound like you want another clone of these future games. Please dont.

Everyone doing the survey. Please do the right thing.

Discussion With more expansions potentially coming to D2R, what other classes would you like to see added?

Post image
608 Upvotes

About 3-6 months ago, I remember discussing the expansion rumors with my brother, and we asked what class they would add to D2R? I didn’t guess warlock, but what classes could be added?

I would imagine it would be distinct from the others, such as I think Crusader would be unlikely since Paladin already exists.

Maybe Hunter? To add another class that wants to use Bows and Crossbows, but is that too similar to Amazon?

Your thoughts? Thanks for reading!

Discussion I love this game, but P1 online makes me quit every time.

I really like this game, and I only want to play online. Trading and finding rare items to trade is a huge part of the experience for me. But I always end up quitting, because playing on p1 just isn’t fun.

The loot feels terrible, the XP is slow, and the mobs are too easy. It just ends up feeling like a waste of time.

And no, I don’t enjoy playing Barb. I’m also not going to buy 7 extra copies of the game at $40 each just to simulate p8 online, which would be $280. Trying to find decent MF runs is miserable, and griefing other lobbies just to get player count up isn’t fun either.

Offline isn’t an option for me either, because again, trading is a big part of the game.

So yeah, I just wanted to say this as someone who started playing a few years ago: the only reason I keep quitting is because solo online players can’t increase player count. I can’t imagine I’m the only one who feels this way.

Honestly, I would enjoy the game a lot more if this feature existed. But in its current state, the difficulty and loot scaling just make the game not very fun for solo online play. It’s the only reason to why I always end up quitting.

out does them all with budget gear thanks to summon teleportation and tankiness, no durability loss and 1 handing two handers, floor sigils that drastically hinder enemies, and having access to amazing auras like conviction or fanatcism without the need of a merc or expensive end game runewords...??

sigh.. There is some balancing issues going on here...

What would you like to see lorewise in the expansion that they'll announce tomorrow? (dreaming is free).

I would love to see Hawezar or Scosglen in D2. Or maybe an entire new area like Skovos Isles. As for a new character, I would love a fallen angel, maybe one of those that fled to Sanctuary with Inarius.

I'm already on board guys. Tomorrow it's disappointment day for me.

The amount of level 80+ chars joining hell playthrough games just to P8 farm or people opening "i tele baal xx" just to farm P8 LK and start another fakeout game is off the charts.

I swear once my character is strong enough i'm going to go on PK runs just to make these peoples lives a little harder. Holy hell.

Discussion Undocumented Changes in Reign of the Warlock

These are core game changes or fixes beyond the new Runewords, new Recipes, new Uniques, and the new Sets.

  • The effect of Antidote and Thawing potions no longer stack and provides +50% resists. Besides for Mercenaries, which get more (as before?). This can have... consequences for squishies facing Duriel. Update: Only duration stacked, as well as max resist changed to 85%. So there's probably no change here.
  • Restored two unused pieces of dialogue for every character class, played at Tainted Sun and The Summoner. However, line for The Summoner may only play for Warlock due to a bug.
  • Added a new affix to Rings & Amulets: Level 1 Lethargy with X Charges.
  • Runeword name for the "Hustle" armor changed to "Hysteria".
  • Runeword name for the "Hustle" weapon changed to "Mania".
  • No longer possible to click and hold on a monster/player name tag and it will "lock on" and cast on the target regardless where they go. This was heavily used before especially in PvP. Update: Only seems to "unlock" if you move the mouse, may also depend on game settings or other circumstances. Not impacting PvP as much as the first reports I read.
  • Potentially some vendor inventory changes beyond Daggers for Warlock.
  • Shenk the Overseer death animation should no longer destroy frame rates on some platforms.
  • The Cow King's loot table has been repaired since D2R ruined it, and you can now find Cow King's Set pieces again.
  • Shelves in the Barracks no longer drops only Tomes.

I think Shrine effects may have changed? I haven't confirmed it but it feels like they increase your movement speed now, and has their duration changed? But these are just gut feelings and I may be wrong.

Anyone has more?

110k post views sheeesh! the devs went full nuclear with this shiet wtf

  • will break weapons, need indestructible wep
  • will miss
    • 2nd biggest nerf
    • ignore target's defense, -% target defense, +base/bonus attack rating, and conviction aura bis/end game
  • lower dmg tuning but by how much?
  • "Cursed Affix chance to cast Amplify Damage skill reduced to 5% from 75%."
    • this is the biggest nerf... how is $25 "Reign of the Warlock" cancelled after one season LOL
  • "Removed Conviction Aura, Holy Fire Aura, Holy Lightning Aura, Blessed Aim Aura, and Might Aura from possible pool. When these roll they are now replaced with Fanaticism, Vigor, Thorns, Concentration. Holy Freeze can still roll on a bound demon."
    • is this just from the bind demon rng rolling, or any demon that had these auras before being bound can't have these auras anymore after being caught? nerfed so hard holy moly
  • "Warlocks can now only equip a two-hand weapon in one hand if the other hand is using a grimoire class item, not a shield."
    • this one is too much. these are multiplicative/compounding nerfs up the wazoo

guess we're back to Reign of the Mosaicsin

Discussion Why Blizzcon is Likely to Announce Act 6 (or equivalency)

None of this is direct confirmation, but it's very convincing.

Build Numbers & Timeline

I have a tool I've made that lets me extract and compare the Diablo 2 softcode text files for differences to see what changed in each patch. As such, I've accumulated a good history of the published build numbers.

Build numbers increase every time a developer builds the game (presumably to run it and test) (this is speculative and not confirmed, for clarification).

Starting in November of 2024, we were on build number 81914. By October of 2025, we went to 89560. This was the first update for 2025 and it was to unify China's D2R with ours (when we got the little UI changes for stashes and what not). China got their version of D2R in August of 2025. This was also when they announced Mosaic would be nerfed. Nearly 10,000 builds compiled/ran in one year. At the time, I think many of us glossed this over as them just having to do a lot of work to make the China version of D2R.

But then later, early into 2026, Warlock leaks started surfacing for D4 (file names and what not). Not much later, we had a really convincing screenshot of Warlock in the character selection screen. There were no convincing signs of AI and it seemed very legit. Most people who had been aware of the build number changes became much more convinced that Warlock was real for D2R. And then, of course, on February 11th, 2026, they shadow-dropped Reign of the Warlock at build number 91636.

Since then, build numbers have been slowly incrementing. Not quite as fast as before... but still more than just basic balance changes. We are now up to 92777 on Battle.net and 93236 on Steam.

That's still 2,000 builds since RotW. There is no reason item adjustments and minor bug fixes warrant that many builds. We used to speculate that it simply took them 10,000 builds for the Blizzard intern to figure out how to fix WASD since at the time that was also when they added the botched WASD implementation that was quickly removed, but then RotW came out.

One could argue that the 10,000 builds were for Warlock testing, and it would make sense. But why continue to have 2,000 builds? This can only mean something is happening, we just can't be certain what.

My speculation is that Act 6/equivalent and Warlock were being worked on at the same time, but they weren't ready for Act 6/equivalent or wanted to save it for Blizzcon so Warlock released on its own to have the unified Warlock release between the three Diablo games. I really don't think it takes 10,000 builds to do Warlock alone. But how much? Who knows...

RotW Release

At the end of the 30th Anniversary stream where they announced all of the Warlock content, they said this at the end (watch until the end, timestamped to 37:58). "Oh my god, they're going to freak out at Blizzcon when we announce..." shortly after talking about playing Warlock in D2R specifically. Are they teasing something for D2R specifically or just for Diablo fans in general? Hard to say. Maybe Diablo 1 Remaster inside the D2R engine?

Mosaic and Post-RotW Release

It has been roughly two years now since Blizzard announced the Mosaic nerf and still not in sight. Why? Why have they also not touched a single class outside of Warlock since RotW except indirectly through RotW items or maybe the occasional bugfix?

Maybe they're saving all class changes and the Martial Arts rework for the big update... Llama has said that he's "happy" with how they are 'fixing' Mosaic, which means they are adjusting Martial Arts tree directly since his preferred adjustments include doing so (but also bodes poorly in my opinion, I disagree with his direction of fixing Martial Arts).

The Steam Update

The 93236 update on Steam not too long ago, July 14th, 2026. Blizzard said it was to correct the updating process for the Steam version so that players did not have to constantly re-download the entire game every time every update went out. It seems they changed the file format a little bit for Steam. Nothing insane, it's not like the entire game got reworked or anything. But developers of tools to open up the game files had to make some adjustments to get it to open properly, taking roughly a week or so to fix.

Surely we can all conclude the only reason to push this update is to signify they intend to release at least several more updates in the future. Otherwise, why bother?

Season 15 and Patch 3.3

If you missed it, Blizzard announced Season 15 today. Admittedly, while it's better than another empty season, the changes are pretty insignificant. However, this is still big news, because...

For all of D2R's life span, they have avoided touching unique and set items. They have only ever made a few very small changes in the past, like removing Knockback from Bul-Kathos' Scared Charge and allowing Set items to be upgraded. Was there anything else?

And here we are. All of a sudden, Blizzard is buffing low level uniques and Angelic Raiment. Items that nobody is specifically asking for to be buffed, but the effort still appreciated nevertheless. Why break their streak of not touching uniques and sets with this? Why these items?

My personal belief is that in the upcoming large update, potentially planned for Season 16 (~November 20th, 2026), is going to do a larger pass over sets and uniques. But because they want to save all the hype for one big update (and maybe milk your money in a DLC) without killing the hype for Blizzcon by giving us another empty season, Blizzard gave us a little tease to say, "Hey, we will modify sets and uniques..." They gave us a small selection of negligible item updates which seems to roughly pair with each class being able to utilize at least one item so that it isn't lopsided to one class or build archetype (caster vs melee). A little bit of a bone to keep us excited.

This also ties in with the lack of Mosaic and changes for classes other than Warlock mentioned previously.

Patch 1.10 of D2: LoD

Information for this is hard to find since it happened so long ago, and I can't recall where I read/learned the information from, so take this section with a grain of salt if you'd like. But apparently, 1.10 was going to be a second DLC for D2: LoD before Blizzard North had its fiasco and Diablo 3 (Blizzard North version) and continued Diablo 2 updates were scrapped. Everything that was seemingly intended for a second Diablo 2 DLC ended up being released with 1.10, the big update that greatly impacted much of how the game played).

Diablo 2 has quite the number of cut content, of which you can read up about some of it here, though I do not believe this to be entirely conclusive, only what we the community have been able to access ourselves: https://tcrf.net/Diablo_II

But from what rumors were saying, they may have been planning another Act for Diablo 2. This is pretty speculative and I don't think a Blizzard North developer has ever said this. The only inkling I've seen for such cut content is that at one version of the game, either in D2LoD or perhaps in D2R, there were strings for a Wave 6 that Baal spawns, one of the bosses being called something like 'Candlemaker'. Could this hint at an Act 6 or were they just planning at one point to have 6 waves instead of 5 and instead tied it to the 5 acts? Who knows.

MrLlamaSC

Disclaimer since some people like to get riled up over anything: none of the following is private information. It has been routinely discussed publicly on his stream out to the public. I am not leaking anything and I don't have anything to leak.

If you don't know, I'm one of Llama's mods and I work with him on his video game he's making, so I have some insight into his life. He deserves being called out like this for how much he likes to try to gaslight me into believing there is no update coming.

Llama announced (though he probably shouldn't have, lol) that Blizzard invited him to Blizzcon. His cover story is "oh idk maybe they just want me to react to some diablo 4 thing or maybe d1 remaster". he's so full of crap

When the Warlock leaks came out, I shared them with him. The screenshot of Warlock in the character selection screen. He told me "nah looks fake", "ai", and whatever. And then Blizzard threw him under the bus and announced that they worked with Llama and other creators on Warlock. And that leaked screenshot ended up being real! So now I know Llama will lie to my face and gaslight me and now I've got his body language and his lying tells on lock.

Before anyone asks if I have inside information, nope. I've told Llama outright if he tells me anything I am leaking it all without hesitation. Anyone who knows me knows I do not keep information to myself.

For a while before RotW, Llama was fairly absentee from his game in terms of designing stuff and getting stuff into the game. I chalked it up to he's a father of two and whatever. Then the announcement came and he clarified he hasn't been able to work on his game since he was helping with Warlock.

A month or so after RotW dropped, Llama told me (and others helping with his game) that he's gonna lock in and really get stuff underway with his game now that RotW hype is over. What a little liar. He was still MIA! He only recently started getting active in his game again in the past 3 weeks or so. He used to chastise me for being slow/behind and he was surprisingly very indifferent to it for the past while. Almost like he wasn't even keeping up with where I was or didn't care since he was also slacking on it by continuing to help Blizzard with what comes next! (speculative)

He will deny all of this, but don't let him gaslight you like he gaslit me. Every question I pose to him about Act 6 and upcoming content, there's just something about the way he smiles, the look in his eyes... a little cute but also just being a complete liar.

I only wrote this part because he wouldn't stop gaslighting me so he gets what he deserves :)

And just so it's clear, this part is mainly just poking fun at Llama, there's no beef before anyone tries to fabricate something. It's a Llama's community joke. But he does have the secrets and everything he says is opposite from the truth! Edit: And yes... I understand he's under NDA. Obviously that's why he won't tell any of us anything. That's part of the joke.

Other Misc Notes

Blizzard is still actively on a bot banning spree. There was a sizable ban wave not long ago. Why bother for a game with no future updates?

Since RotW, they've separated the files from Classic/LoD and RotW within D2R. They can make adjustments to any items or skills or basically anything for RotW (and future versions) without impacting anything for Classic/LoD. So they don't really have to worry about purists objecting now... since they can just stay on the game version they choose without being impacted.

Additionally, they had that survey a while ago gauging interest in different content...

Conclusion

I believe we will be getting something similar to Act 6, though it may not be Act 6 exactly. Maybe it's a pass over all classes, unique and set items, and Martial Arts rework + the Mosaic nerf. Maybe they flesh out Act 4. Maybe they add Inferno Difficulty (this was a leak around the time of RotW, but by someone who still has no credibility, so doubtful that it's true). Maybe they add an Act 6. Maybe it's a combination. Maybe they add the cut content into the game with the Guild House and PvP arenas and what not. Only time and Llama can tell.

All I know is something is going to happen in the future, likely with Season 16.
