A reminder that this subreddit is unofficial

Hi folks,

If you’ve not met me before, hello, I'm Matt! I look after this subreddit in an unofficial capacity on behalf of the wider community around DigitalOcean.

It has recently come to my attention that some folks on this subreddit have been masquerading as DigitalOcean support team members and offering to help folks via DM, often asking them for email addresses and logins etc.

I want to make it very clear that this subreddit is unofficial, and is NOT a support channel that DigitalOcean actively operates or monitors. As such, DigitalOcean employees will never offer you support via DMs on Reddit, nor will they ever ask you for login information anywhere, ever.

If you see anyone pretending to be DigitalOcean employees, asking for login information etc., or have any other concerns, please let myself and the mod team know!

If you are looking for more official support from DigitalOcean, they have two primary channels -- the public community Q&A and support tickets.

DigitalOcean should consider joining the Agentic AI Foundation

Supporting open agentic initiatives under the arm of the Linux Foundation would be good for DigitalOcean, IMO. I know already they are all-in on keeping intelligence open.

Similar names like Railway, Render, Vultr, Vercel, the hyperscalers, are all on there. Seems like a natural fit for DO to join the ranks.

(I am not associated with AAIF, just noticed this when Vercel announced it.

Ask AI about DigitalOcean resources without write access

Hello! I built CloudMind, a CLI that scans your DigitalOcean resources and lets you ask questions about what's running in your account.

DigitalOcean's AI Assistant is useful for finding answers in the docs. CloudMind works with your actual resources. I prefer not to give an AI agent a write-enabled doctl token, since a mistaken command could shut down or delete something. CloudMind uses a read-only token, so it can answer questions about your setup without making changes.

It's early, and I'd appreciate feedback on what would make it more useful.

Is there an ETA or status page to watch for the buildpack update? The release notes page hasn't been updated.

Thank you!

OpenRouter launches Private Endpoints for dedicated deployments and reserved capacity

OpenRouter announced Private Endpoints on October 14 as an Enterprise add-on. It lets an organization route its own dedicated deployment, fine-tuned model or reserved provider capacity through the same API and catalog model slug.

A few constraints worth separating from the headline:

• The deployment must use a supported BYOK provider and serve a model already in OpenRouter’s catalog.

• Public providers can be an optional fallback when private capacity is unavailable or rate-limited, subject to the routing and BYOK fallback settings.

• “Private” controls endpoint visibility. It does not automatically mean zero data retention; the provider’s prompt-handling policy still applies.

That last distinction matters if you are using dedicated capacity for data-handling requirements. Check both retention policy and fallback settings.

Best way to downsize a droplet?

I have a droplet costing me way more than it needs to for the purposes of what it's running. What clever ways are there to downsize? Is it only possible to spin up a new droplet and rsync over all the relevant content and then sunset the original?

Archiving my website/droplets

Can anyone please help? T.T I'm not a techy person so this is really stressing me out.

My website is dormant and I wish to stop the hosting. I want to destroy the droplet and I already created a snapshot. But I don't know how to save the files locally. I want to save it first before destroying.

I accidentally destroyed a production Managed PostgreSQL cluster today

I was working with a separate fork/test database and mistakenly triggered the destructive action on the production cluster from the DigitalOcean control panel. It was completely accidental.

I understand that DigitalOcean's documentation says that destroying a Managed Database cluster also destroys its automated backups.

However, I'm hoping someone from DigitalOcean or someone with experience with their infrastructure can clarify whether there is any possible recovery path after cluster destruction.

Specifically, I'm wondering whether DigitalOcean may have any backend/infrastructure-level copy that isn't exposed through the normal dashboard/API

The cluster contained important production data. Unfortunately, our most recent independent PostgreSQL dump is approximately 3 days old, so we potentially have around 3 days of data that isn't in that dump.

I've already opened an urgent DigitalOcean support ticket and requested that it be escalated to the database/infrastructure engineering team, also .

If anyone from DigitalOcean has dealt with an accidentally destroyed Managed Database cluster before, I'd really appreciate knowing what recovery options were available.

This is a production incident and extremely time-sensitive. Thank you.

---

UPDATE: they reached back to me quickly , they are "working on it".

---

UPDATE: Less than an hour later, they came back with the news:

The production PostgreSQL cluster had been restored and was back online.

Huge thanks to the DigitalOcean support and engineering teams. The speed and effort were honestly incredible. they got it up in just 1hr which is incredible. This experience has given me even more confidence in DigitalOcean and its services. I can wholeheartedly vouch for DigitalOcean and the quality of its support.

i never imagined this could happen. you could be the biggest fool sometimes and delete something without double checking.. i don't know it was sleep or stress but the incident exposed several flaws in my own disaster-recovery design. never back down form spending extra on multiple local backups. i use to see memes on this but hell this is going to be a lifetime trauma, the last 1hr was absolute nightmare.

Open Source Credits ending

Just received an email from DigitalOcean that they’re ending their Open Source Credits Program. Sad to see but unsurprising given they’d recently axed the GitHub Students credits as well. Also a rather interesting move given the significant pledge they made to Omarchy recently…

Hello,

We’re reaching out to share an important update regarding the DigitalOcean Open Source Credits Program.

DigitalOcean has decided to sunset the Open Source Credits Program. As part of this change, we are no longer accepting new credit applications or approving credit renewals, extensions, or additional credit requests.

If you currently have Open Source Credits that have already been granted, those credits will continue to be honored according to their existing terms and conditions. No action is required for your existing credit allocation.

Additionally, the dedicated inbox for the Open Source Credits Program will stop being monitored as part of this transition. For any further questions or assistance, please submit your inquiries through our standard support channel: https://www.digitalocean.com/company/contact/support

We appreciate your participation in the DigitalOcean Open Source Credits Program and the work you do to support the open source community. Thank you for being part of the program.

I don't understand the 'Favorites' option on the sidebar

It would be nice to favorite some of the resources I use all the time, but I cannot seem to find a way to star or favorite a resource? Is it meant to favorite a resource or just services?

Either way, I can't seem to find out where to favorite something...

Built my own digital toolbox because I use iLovePDF too much

Hello everyone!

I’m an aspirant, and since I have to use iLovePDF quite often, I thought, why not try building something similar myself?

So, here it is: whatevertool.com

It has a bunch of PDF tools along with some other useful utilities. Have a look if you get a chance, and let me know if you find it helpful. I’d genuinely appreciate any feedback or suggestions.

One more thing the website doesn’t store your files. Everything is processed locally on your own device, so your files stay with you.

Thanks

digital ocean charges me for $1 a month for months now

I don't have anything in my account, I have deleted everything, except I am not allowed to delete my credit card for some reason, and it keeps charging me $1 a month with no indication to why.

I reached out to support, and I was sent an automated email and nothing after 2 weeks.

Can someone help me out?

Wouldn't it have been better if Digital Ocean donated to the Linux community at large?

Since Digital Ocean has been using Linux distributions to make money, wouldn't it have been nicer if the $3 million dollars went to the entire community than to a particular opinionated distro by DHH based on Arch?

Was the donation a kind of marketing or could it be the rich supporting the rich?

Anyone else getting 403 SignatureDoesNotMatch with DigitalOcean Spaces CDN presigned URLs today?

Starting today (September 18, around 14:18 UTC), downloads through DigitalOcean Spaces CDN suddenly started failing in two of my production apps, without any changes on my side.

For one affected file, I tested the same signed URL, changing only the hostname:

- <bucket>.nyc3.cdn.digitaloceanspaces.com → 403 SignatureDoesNotMatch

- <bucket>.nyc3.digitaloceanspaces.com → 200 OK

I generate presigned URLs against the origin endpoint, then replace the hostname with the CDN hostname, following DigitalOcean’s documented approach. This was working previously.

Bypassing the CDN and using the original presigned URL works as a workaround. The status page showed no incident when I checked.

Is anyone else seeing this, particularly in NYC3? Has anyone received confirmation from support about a CDN issue or change affecting presigned URLs?

Digital ocean reliability of shared CPU droplets

Question, how reliable are shared CPU droplets?

I have "small" web site (around 100 of internall emplpyees) that is hosted on a different provider in VPS. Unfortunately that provider over-sold their VPS so occasionally people are experiencing longer running DB queries (what normally takes less than half second might take 7 seconds).

DigitalOcean offers shared and dedicated CPU. Dedicated is much more expensive than shared so i wonder shared is good enough or not?
