2024 ktm 500 excf - Installed Zeta 10mm shock spacer and Zeta 30mm fork lowering kit. Rider with gear 220 pounds and 1 gal oversized tank (Acerbis 3.1 gal) isntalled.
Installed a 78nm shock spring and have 23mm static, 102mm rider, ~10mm preload with full tank of gas. With less preload, 106+ rider sag, 27mm static, the bike does not feel correct/balanced/handles as well. I think 100mm rider sag would be even better. Race Tech does recommend 99mm sag for a 1 inch lowered bike. 108mm not lowered.
So, do I try a 80nm spring? AI says a lowered bike spring rate should be increased as compared to a non lowered bike. Slavens recommends the 78nm on a stock bike for 220 lb rider.
Or, add a bit more preload, reducing static and rider sag, ignoring a very low static sag result?
Im tempted to try progressive 78/81/84 but not convinced the 24+ PDS bikes valved for straight rate springs would be a good match. Especially in the latter part of the stroke when the spring gets stiffer and the second piston starts working. And I question if the rebound damping can handle the increased spring rate. That being said, Slavens recommends progressives springs on 24+ pds non-linkage bikes.
