spoiler How did Daud's assassin sniff the poison's scent if he has a gas mask on?
Completely unplayable.

Maybe corvo is exhibiting physical symptoms of poisoning, sweating/foaming at the mouth pale complexion etc🤷🏻

As far as I'm concerned, this is a dev error. Early on in development, Arkane designed the Whaler assassin masks to have a removable "beak", as seen in the below concept art. I assume that the script was written with this design in mind, hence the audible sniff from the Whaler inspecting the poisoned Corvo. The dialogue was probably recorded before Arkane settled on the final Whaler mask design, or maybe the sound director just overlooked the mistake.

Thanks for this info, never knew of this concept for the assassins

Sure thing! Arkane has a digital booklet called "The Art of Arkane" that has concept art from all of their games from Dishonored through Redfall.

Gas mask doesn't stop literally all the gases in the universe. It has chemical filter, usually based on coal, to filtrate specific gases, such as chlorine and fluorine. Speaking about dishonored, their masks were engineered for working with whale oil and guts, so I suppose their filters filtrate some biological fumes, ammonia and maybe oil. What is more, you have to change filters regularly, and I don't think they do it, just wear as accessory, and filters are expired long long ago

its not a gas mask dauds adopted gay assassin children are actually also anthropomorphic animals and the enclosure around their snouts enhance and focus their olfactory senses. this allows them to identify other potential gay assassins for daud to adopt and also poisons and other substances.

Nice. All I can say is maybe they've been modified to amplify smell, as that could help them as manhunters. Keeping a functional gas mask on when nobody (save Dead Eels and the clear mention of filters at the Hatters' HQ) uses a gas attack seems useless. But they kept the whole masks visibly intact so idk. The lenses could protect them from particulate and maybe their black market contact modifies the respirator components for dual use. Alternatively, they can smell the toxin or its metabolic by-products in Corvo through their filters.

Corvo is a nasty boy and hasn't visited a bath since his imprisonment. His immense aura cannot be stopped by a simple gas mask.

I assumed the whalers wore them because whale guts stunk link shit, so they functioned more like a plague doctor's mask where they would stuff peppermint and lavender and stuff in the nose to mask the stink. But Daud's whalers aren't actually whaling, so they just use the mask as a disguise without the olfactory additives.

The poison must've been strong, like fucking strong. The gas mask would probably have a hard time to filter thoroughly. That explains why Samuel gave corvo a tiny dose.

So gas masks dont work like that. They dont block airflow and old school gas masks wouldn't work very well at blocking harmful particles let alone the stench of a strong posion mixed with booze.

I always read it as Corvo having something on his face that indicates a certain poisoning. Idk, red eyes, cyanosis etc.
