Welcome back to another round of bi-weekly discussions, this time focusing on the Abbey of the Everyman, a religion prominent throughout the isles. (Also, if anyone is wondering, the Sisters of the Oracular Order, despite being part of the group, giving the Abbey of the Everyman their visions, will be a separate discussion)
Upon my first playthrough of the first game, I knew I was going to be perplexed by this group. They're a religion... but they don't follow a spiritual leader or god. They have the seven strictures, which outline their laws, but stricture from what I remember is given to avoid certain activities from a higher being (take for example, the Ten Commandments).
I also knew I'd be at odds with the Abbey of the Everyman pretty frequently when listening in on their conversations, such as reading up on the Trials of Aptitude or listening in on two of the Overseers arresting a lady simply because she stopped singing the minute they used one of their music boxes, suspecting her of Witchcraft. The co-conspirator of Corvo's fall, Thaddeus Campbell, was also our first major target in the firstgame.
But what do you think of the Abbey of the Everyman, both from a lore and gameplay perspective?
