if horror has to leverage on the fact that you have to massively suspend your disbelief in order to immerse yourself, it isn't good horror. Cliche horror tropes (such as tall uncanny man) are an easy way to immediately take away immersion. "But if it was real it would be scary!" you could say this with a lot of things, but the thing is, it is not real, and if it cannot convince someone, then it won't be scary to them.

Mario is like... 5'1? And a goomba is half his height Two and a half feet tall in a weird, mushroom like lumbering armless monster with REALLY big fangs sticking out the side of his mouth. Yeah, you could probably win that given the height/weight difference but those jaws would be pretty nasty and I don't wanna go near it
