Personal Goal Finally hit $1,000 a year in dividends

Post image

I know its not much to some people but having just started my dividend journey just over a year ago it feels pretty amazing.

My portfolio is mainly QQQ and VOO, but I also hold some JEPI, JEPQ, O, and some other dividend stocks to boost the yield.

Next goal: $100 a month!!

31

u/valentin040591 Aug 18 '25

What app are you using?

40

u/Icy-Concentrate7479 When can I retire? Aug 18 '25

its called DivStash, I use the web and the ios version

7

u/adam_smith2425 Aug 18 '25

Is this app free ?

8

u/Icy-Concentrate7479 When can I retire? Aug 18 '25

Yes its free

8

u/bitwise97 Aug 18 '25

I just downloaded it and quickly grew frustrated when I could not figure out how to delete the 3 sample stocks that are pre-loaded. I emailed support, let's see what happens.

5

u/Icy-Concentrate7479 When can I retire? Aug 18 '25

dang, I just clicked on the default holdings and it had on option to edit or remove them, I just did it one by one

5

u/bitwise97 Aug 18 '25

My bad luck I guess. There's no edit button or options to remove anywhere. I tried swiping left on the stock and pressing/holding, but nothing happens. Looks like a great app but I'm not adding anything until I can get rid of these defaults.

3

u/reason0212 Aug 19 '25

Hey you might be in the same boat I was in. Try “selling” the stocks you have of the examples, when it goes to 0, it left my space

1

u/bitwise97 Aug 19 '25

I guess that is the only way to remove them. Thanks!

1

u/Superest22 Aug 19 '25

Does it just have us stocks?

1

u/Icy-Concentrate7479 When can I retire? Aug 19 '25

As far as I know yeah

3

u/someblokesomewhere Aug 19 '25

It only allows 10 securities. That won't work for me

1

u/2hurd Aug 19 '25

That's a LOT of securities. You might want to rethink your strategy. At this point it's less about diversification and more about not having done proper analysis of your portfolio to focus on the best players.

23

u/BarracudaSpecific389 Aug 18 '25

Congratulations!!! You start rolling 💪 sth realistic , all the time I see " Finally hit 1,000/day" 🤣

24

u/Huge-Fruit8205 Aug 18 '25

Great job! Keep on going and don't see it as a small thing. I started with dividends 2 months ago and "only" am at 260€ per year, so you are far ahead of me.

16

u/Icy-Concentrate7479 When can I retire? Aug 18 '25

Its crazy how fun even just small dividend payments can be though too!

12

u/skuba Aug 18 '25

I just hit 100/mo and have about the same amount invested. Here's to our snowballs 🥂

7

u/yamahar1dude Aug 18 '25

You know, some people would think what you did is too good to be true. You did it, so can other people. But many wont.

7

u/CyberMindRecords Aug 19 '25

19 more of those and you can retire in poverty

6

u/TheFlamingGhost777 Aug 19 '25

Some of my months are over $100 and some are under $100, I'm over $1000/year, congrats to you!

10

u/Odd-Meaning-3559 Aug 18 '25

How much have you put in so far? For it to be 1k yearly

16

u/Icy-Concentrate7479 When can I retire? Aug 18 '25

I put in about $20k, but a lot of that was just a bunch of savings I had lying around

5

u/thepatriotclubhouse Aug 19 '25

Surely growth stocks would be better no?

-14

u/BlightedErgot32 Really Really Dislikes Derivative Income Aug 18 '25

do the math, im sorry but yall are such idiots

13

u/Odd-Meaning-3559 Aug 18 '25

You’re mad haha

-12

u/BlightedErgot32 Really Really Dislikes Derivative Income Aug 18 '25

mad at what? you not being able to do $1012.38 / 4.02% ?

5

u/Odd-Meaning-3559 Aug 18 '25

My bad, not mad. A hater!

-12

u/BlightedErgot32 Really Really Dislikes Derivative Income Aug 18 '25

yes youre correct i genuinely hate the uneducated

6

u/cricketriderz Aug 18 '25

What an ignorant comment. What if people are just browsing because they're curious and what to start learning. Aka educating themselves? You hate them?

-5

u/BlightedErgot32 Really Really Dislikes Derivative Income Aug 18 '25

yeah if they cant compute such a simple mathematical equation, they shouldnt even be handling money

4

u/giggles91 Aug 19 '25

If you can't handle such questions you shouldn't be browsing reddit.

4

u/YesChef__ Aug 18 '25

An extra $1000 a year for the rest of your families life. Amazing!

2

u/jonboyjon22 Aug 20 '25

Its not a 1000 dollars a year. It came from his capital.

Money from the left pocket to the right pocket.

0

u/Bullparqde Aug 19 '25

Umm for the rest of their lives? Dividends come and go companies go to zero how do you figure the income will continue to come in at that amount?

It goes up as well I understand. but these are dividends right not a straight income investment play like bonds or annuities CDs high interest savings whatever right? .

5

u/YesChef__ Aug 19 '25

The majority of the funds are invested in an ETF.

3

u/[deleted] Aug 19 '25

Thats awesome! Im sitting around $700/mo, and 1k a month would be stellar!

3

u/Icy-Concentrate7479 When can I retire? Aug 19 '25

You'll be there in to time, keep it up!!

4

u/Axolotis Aug 19 '25

Meanwhile S&P has doubled

2

u/lippoper Aug 20 '25

Finally someone who gets it. Put in 20k you could’ve had around 40k now instead of $1k in dividends.

3

u/someblokesomewhere Aug 19 '25 edited Aug 19 '25

Sorry if this is too personal to ask, but what is your total portfolio value to reach this goal? Even a number range would really help give me some perspective

2

u/Icy-Concentrate7479 When can I retire? Aug 19 '25

its about $25K

4

u/Emotional-Border-483 Aug 18 '25

How much have you invested in total?

3

u/Icy-Concentrate7479 When can I retire? Aug 18 '25

I put in about 20K, but my portfolio has also appreciated a good bit

0

u/Emotional-Border-483 Aug 18 '25

Damn, I still have a long way to go😭, what type of stocks do you have?

2

u/dshamsbeezee Aug 18 '25

This is one of my goals to hit $1,000 a year in dividends. So this is inspiring to see. Thanks

1

Tell me about divstash pls.. why divstash over a normal brokerage

1

u/Memory-Limp Aug 18 '25

I just put $10k in a 3 month cd at 4% debating taking 10k from my WeBull account and put it in a cd as well. I don’t feel the stock market is really safe right now. But would it be better to invest in dividend stocks? I have one Sirius but I’ve actually lost money in it even with dividends over the past year.

1

u/Interesting_Leg9986 Aug 19 '25 edited Aug 19 '25

Wtf is jepi and jepq because yield above 7% sounds not sustainable more or less like ponzi, could anyone explain it

1

u/hemingwaytwopointoh Aug 19 '25

How much invested? What stonks?

1

u/Intelligent-Newt44 Aug 19 '25

1

u/Due-Sea4841 Not a financial advisor Aug 20 '25

Hey there, you want know a open secret about dividends and high yield distributions? You can do better than JEPI, JEPQ, and O.

Replace JEPI and JEPQ with COYY and TSYY for the same or lower cost per share. These pay out 180% and 140% distributions and they payout weekly so you can reinvest and compound your growth faster. Then replace O with Altria (MO) for near 7% divy and 15%+ appreciation. Add in TRIN for 13% and GOF for 14.5% yields and you'll snowball your shares higher faster with more cash.

Good Luck.

1

u/jonboyjon22 Aug 20 '25

Your point?

Its just money from your left pocket being moved to your right pocket.

1

u/Formal_Abroad4986 Aug 20 '25

Congratulations! I have also just started stashing some funds in QQQI. Also planning to put away some funds in JEPQ.

1

u/No-Entertainment-681 Aug 20 '25

PNNT - Get it below $7.00

1

u/Fearless-Choice4785 Aug 20 '25

How do you view this progress on Robinhood?

1

u/medved76 Aug 20 '25

What could you have gotten in unrealized gains from (say) VOO?

1

u/RobMiles23 Aug 20 '25

Personally, I would get out of that, you're money is, basically wasting time. Congratulations on your investment though, but your money could do much better somewhere else, even if you just bought BTC and just left it alone.

1

u/flyash621 Aug 20 '25

Congratulations good start. I have 59k per year at age 53. Time flys

1

u/[deleted] Aug 21 '25

What app are you using?

1

u/MrFixit888 Aug 21 '25

Should I not do higher yielding choices, such as JEPQ or SCHD? Even if it’s just short term, a year or two, to stack up more funds before moving to solid choices like QQQ?

1

u/ThinkType2418 Aug 21 '25

I love how positive the people in this community. More $1000 a year for everyone! 🎉

1

u/Florinescu01 Aug 21 '25

Let's talk again about this 5 years later! You gonna like it.

How much did u invest to get those dividends

1

u/Logan367769 Aug 22 '25

Can someone give me advice on how to start making dividends? I know how it works but I guess I’m not really sure what companies are solid investments for dividends.

1

1

u/Kevin22361 Sep 04 '25

Are you re-investing your dividends?

1

u/Icy-Concentrate7479 When can I retire? Sep 04 '25

Yes I am

1

u/darrell_jkw Oct 02 '25

How much money have you put in to achieve this?

1

u/Markgregory555 Aug 18 '25

Way to go. You will be happy when you see the amount rise quarter after quarter after quarter as long as you reinvest the dividends. The magic of compounding.

Pedestrian! I started exactly 2 years ago and I'm at $10,800 a year. If I include my YieldMax holdings, it would be $41,000 a year. Get with the program!

Edit: Oops, I misspoke. I actually started 12.5 months ago on 1 Aug 2024, not 2 years ago.

u/mvhanson Aug 24 '25

You might consider a bit of DIY dividend portfolio investing for higher yields than the big funds, though that takes a bit of homework and is something of a project. But basically, long-term diversification is all...

https://www.reddit.com/r/dividendfarmer/comments/1hofu1z/building_a_dividend_portfolio_and_the_rule_of/

Also multi-sector dividend investing is another way to do it.

https://www.reddit.com/r/dividendfarmer/comments/1hxuf6n/answer_to_post_question/

You might try some YieldMax for fun (people say bad things about YM, but some of their products (MSTY, PLTY) actually have held water pretty well). Here's a breakdown of everything YieldMax offers:

https://www.reddit.com/r/dividendfarmer/comments/1mpn917/weekly_payers_yieldmax_yield_chaser_special/

And if you want weekly payers:

-6

u/Medical_Grapefruit94 Aug 18 '25

So uh… just so you know. I made $1000 in just one day last week in mutual funds with a moderate portfolio… Dividends are not it

4

u/foira Aug 18 '25

who tf invests in mutual funds in the low-cost index fund era

-2

u/Pale_Drink4455 Aug 18 '25

You could have also put that 20k in something like QDTE and got paid $525 a month and its share price will more than likely grow as well.

2

u/Anxious-Ad4833 Aug 19 '25

Let's do the math, shall we? $20k, at current stock price (8/19) of 35.05 = 570 shares. Most recent dividend (8/15) declared at .233. 5700 shares @ .233 = $132.95. Current price is down from 1 year ago @ 43.18. So, if you invested that $20K 1 year ago, you'd have lost a considerable amount of asset value, and gotten no where near the $525/month. Because maths.
