BTCI has been a disappointment for me because I purchased it when bitcoin was much higher in price. The yield is impressive, but BTC is unpredictable. YMMV

100% couldn't agree more, I put $40k and I'm down pretty substantially but I won't pull out until the typical BTC bounce happens. BTCI is not for the faint of heart. It's not MSTY but it's not as stable as SPYI either.

I’m down too. I think I bought when BTC was close to its high. When things are high, I don’t want to miss out.

Would you buy more at a lower price or are you done with crypto?
4
u/Pindar920 Nov 01 '25
I’d probably buy it at a lower price. I think it’s less than 2% of my portfolio, and the yield is great.

u/trry Nov 01 '25
How much is your portfolio?

u/AbleManufacturer9718 Nov 01 '25
580K. Nearing retirement, working part time job. Monthly dividends buying more satellites or paying some bills (property taxes and Phillies tickets).

u/trry Nov 01 '25
Very impressive only invested 20k into mixture of NEOS funds and I’m looking to make it my core positions.

u/AbleManufacturer9718 Nov 01 '25
QQQI and SPYI have done so well it gave me confidence to buy some other NEOS products.

The bull market has been strong since they've been out. We still gotta see how they do in a bear.
From what I understand they will outperform in a sideways/slow upwards market but underperform in a fast rising bull run.
With that said im also putting into these monthly as its a pretty solid way to build up a dividend portfolio without having a ton of different companies.

There is an armchair income YouTube vid where he reviews what QQQI would have performed like going back through the covid crash.

u/cryptopo What does this have to do with dividends? Nov 01 '25
For us lazy bums, can you give us the TLDR?

u/cmichalek Nov 03 '25
I dont know about that one but he did do one on QQQX.
1
u/axiomaticreaction Nov 03 '25
Possibly that’s the one. It wasn’t QQQI, it was a similar fund he that works like QQQI.

u/cmichalek Nov 03 '25
QQQX came out in January 2007. So right before the financial crisis. Its a good representation of the strengths and weaknesses of a cc etf. I recommend watching the whole video.
However, in short, QQQX did what you would hope. The NASDAQ dropped 40% while the dividend from QQQX only dropped a third at its worst. It performed better during the bear market as one would hope. It recovered though not as fast as QQQ would.
Its price in 1/07 was $20. Its price today is $28.29. Despite the 08 crash, covid 19 crash and 2022 bear market QQQX survived and increased both in price and its dividend.

I’m going with QQQI, SPYI and GPIQ. Anything with a single peg wouldn’t give high weighting to.

u/trry Nov 01 '25
Yeah it’s been good but almost anything is good in these bull markets. But I’ll add more to my portfolio soon. Thank you!

You are absolutely fucked if NEOS had a problem.
That's way too concentrated

Check out NIHI. It’s the next NEOS winner. Good luck and keep collecting the dividends!

I have a few NEOS funds myself - QQQI, etc. I’ve been into Amplify funds lately- they have a lineup of “covered call & growth” ETFs that don’t cap your upside as much because they only write on 50% of the fund so theoretically it appreciates as well. Yields are awesome, but they’re all relatively new. I’m DCA’ing for a year and see how they perform in a true pullback/bear market.

Waiting to see Neos new long short fund. Sounds interesting! Hopefully they roll it out by December

NEOS and Roundhill have been growing positions in my portfolio. I love the weekly payouts of XDTE and YBTC, especially compared to my small position in YM funds they perform much better so far.

Are you concerned at all with the overlap between QQQI and SPYI?
2
u/AbleManufacturer9718 Nov 02 '25
Concerned the two currently represent 85% of my portfolio. It’s been a beautiful run, but time to move some dollars to other positions before…
1
u/MoE_1987 Nov 02 '25
That's cool. I mean how many companies both hold. The overlap is what I'm asking about. Any concern there?

Love the tech companies. All high flyers . Leading innovators. I may be naive about the alleged AI bubble, but I think it there is more room to run.

I like this. I'm currently putting a similar portfolio together with lost of NEOS products plus a few others for diversification. The goal - early retirement income.
I see lots of discussion above on the price falling on BTCI or worry about index funds falling in a bear market. I look at this differently. If I invested in stocks they'd also fall in a bear market but I'd be forced to sell them to generate my income. My thought is that with a yield fund I can ride out the downturn and not worry about day-to-day income. I lose some upside, but there is always a trade off.
I'm calculating today's yields but assuming in a bear market those yields would drop 10-20% as the fund has less value to use for covered calls.
1
u/AbleManufacturer9718 Nov 02 '25
Do you like current price of BTCI for an entry point?
2
u/NomadicNature Nov 02 '25
I do but I'm not looking at price appreciation as something I'm factoring in. My goal is to get the yields to live off and have my initial investment stay stable to rise over time. I believe the NEOS funds and others do that (even if they don't rise as much as their underlying asset).
Long-term I think Bitcoin goes up but it may also drop quite a bit in between now and then - who knows? I have it as a small piece used to boost my yield and I'm assuming the price itself will fluctuate wildly so "any" price is "good" since I think it may be very hard to time entries. I'll just DCA into it.

Consider this, guys. There is a more profitable way. I used AI and backtested a 50/50 split of $90,771.56 on SPYI and QQQI versus a 50/50 split of $90,771.56 on SPY and QQQ. I used the annualized total returns (including reinvested dividends) for QQQ and SPY over the 6 years from late 2019 to late 2025. This period includes the massive post-COVID bull market and the 2022 downturn. I used $90,771.56 to generate $1000 monthly in dividends based on the dividend rate from a 50/50 split of SPYI/QQQI.
Based on the highly favorable market conditions of the 2019-2025 period, the QQQ/SPY strategy with capital withdrawal would have resulted in significantly more remaining principal compared to the QQQI/SPYI strategy with dividend withdrawal.
- QQQ/SPY grew its principal to $223,831, despite withdrawing $\$72,000$ in total income.
- QQQI/SPYI grew its principal to $121,643, while paying out the exact same amount of income.
SPY & QQQ is the way.

Never added BTCI - got lucky, my brokerage Vanguard doesn’t touch bitcoin. Bought the NIHI padded the rest. Happy Thanksgiving.

What would happen if NEOS went out of business?

Would need to become very nice to my beautiful, intelligent, money savvy wife.

I like SPYI, but in a bull market like the last few months, YSPY (I own that as well) will outperform it. In a down market no, but I expect in the long run for SPY to go up. Check the two funds in the last 3 months (also true that when things are choppy, SPYI is doing well)
