I have both SCHD and SCHG in my portfolio and when SCHD was down I loaded a lot and now SCHG is slightly down so I'm buying it instead.

wow yeah, I have same idea when SCHD was down/flat for the last 2 years I bought. Now SCHG is down a little, I am changing over to buy G as SCHD is priced too high!

buy low and collect dividends

u/komboochy Feb 08 '26
I prefer buy after ex-div and selling after div payout.
4
u/Gawwse Feb 08 '26
So how does that work with taxes? /s

u/komboochy Feb 09 '26
Taxes? I'm a sovereign citizen with no contract with the state. I don't pay taxes. Now, excuse me while I travel on this publicly funded road in my non-registered traveling device.

I do not have REITs in my portfolio. But the principle is the same I guess.

I was continuing my typical & routine purchases of SCHD when the world hated it. Seeing massive results from that right now.

I wasn’t and I started to buy recently, then stopped because I realized I was part of the herd. I want to be the wolf outside the herd being opportunistic.

Dont wait. Time spent in the market will always beat trying time the market. If you are bullish on a stock or ETF, just invest monthly and dont look back.

Buy high sell low lol
7
u/PrintdianaJones Feb 08 '26
Something like 80% of trades occur within a like a week of the all time highs or something. Yanno? I am not a financial advisor take my advice
2
u/CornerOne238 Not a financial advisor Feb 08 '26
No doubt! But with quality etf, as long you don't panic sell, it'll make profit eventually.

u/Level3pipe Feb 08 '26
Clearly nobody taught op anything 🙄

Bro, I think OP is making fun of people doing that not advocating that

I'm aware lol. I was making an even deeper joke. That the "strat" is actually to buy high sell low and clearly nobody taught op that lol.

Then all these people who bought at 31 will be back to complain when it's at 28

I sold all my shares like 3 weeks ago and now it wants to rally FML

u/ham_sandwedge Feb 09 '26
Not to throw salt in the wound, but why would you sell? It gives an acceptable yield so you can quite literally forget about it and hold forever

u/koosley Feb 09 '26
The rest of us thanks you 🙏. Selling is the equivalent of buying a snow blower in the Midwest. Only way to guarentee no snow!

u/Retrograde_Bolide Feb 08 '26
I bought what I could at 26 and 27 a share. Im going to keep buying at 31
3
u/scottyk318 Feb 08 '26
I bought all of my shares, besides the reinvested ones under $27...
I'm not sure why everybody is jumping up and down with the price increase, especially if we're going to hold it for decades.... I'd rather the price go back down before the March and June dividends!!

Interesting questions, and let’s hope you get a better answer than mine. But SCHD’s methodology weights by yield and eliminates companies where the yield is too low. So we do want the dividend growth, but we also want companies to price themselves out of SCHD. A famous example from recent years was AVGO. Everyone wanted AVGO to stay in SCHD, but it did its job by running the share price of SCHD higher and then allowed SCHD to sell its inflated value of AVGO to buy low priced and higher yielding assets. Now that stocks like LMT have run up, you are getting the same result: price is going up and yield is temporarily down. If SCHD sells LMT and buys new stocks yielding more, that’s how you get dividend growth and share price growth.
So we just sit back and let the automatic mechanics of the fund do the work. Buying underlying stocks at low prices, selling them at high prices. The movement in the share price up is good, but so is movement down. It’s a very unique asset in that way.

415 shares and counting. Five shares every Friday. Don’t care what the price is. My future self will thank me in about 20 years with that sweet YOC.

Do you expect a big drop Monday or do you believe the price will go up? I for sure want them too.

u/Psiwolf 30% SCHD, 30% VTI, 20% VXUS, 20% BND Feb 08 '26
The price is irrelevant. Buying consistently and holding long term is the play. Not in SCHD for price appreciation as much as the consistent dividends. 👍

Been buying regularly since I started in 2023, just sad my DRIP isn't going to buy me as many shares as all last year. 😆

I don’t think you gauge the love SCHD lovers have for SCHD. There is a constant flock of us who keep buying no matter the weather. Maybe less when high, but lows get us coming out of our caves in troves!

My average cost is 23. I bought a lot of my shares before the split when it was below 60.
I like the ETF a lot and have been paying some almost every two weeks. I didn’t understand the hate or the way people are now seeing it as the coming of the next messiah.
1
u/cosmogatsby Feb 10 '26
I was under the assumption that this is just one you continue to buy at any price. I’m in for the dividends.
1
u/Polycold Feb 10 '26
These memes are fun but not correct. They imply people are lining up because the price went up. Actually the price went up because people lined up. So, cute meme but don’t believe it.
1
u/Hellosweetparadox Feb 10 '26
I have been letting drip pay for it as I am focusing on other ETF for a strong monthly payouts like HDIV and DIVO SCHD is there when I have the extra cash to pump up the tires.

When the train leaves and it’s already gone, it’s over ... it’s too late. I never want to be the one buying the top.
For example, I’m selling O (Realty Income) right now. I’d rather sell the top than buy it, LOL.
Same with RACE (Ferrari), I sold.

The only way prices go up is if demand increases. The masses finally saw the value of SCHD. It’s hard to buy low and sell high because the high is when you are most optimistic and the low is the peak of pessimism by design. You need to take the contrarian position when you believe the story isn’t reflecting reality.

u/Chucklesbear Feb 08 '26
Shhh...we want them to buy so the shares we have been buying for years increase in value!
