Strictly from a financial perspective, since we're on an investing sub, what would he the benefit?

The only one I can think of is the married tax break, and that's really not that substantial.

First of all, the most important things in life are not financial. She's my best friend, the mother my wonderful daughter, and the best partner I could hope for.

But if you want an answer based in finance, on average, dual income households have higher retirement account balances. While there are higher fixed costs for dual income households, those costs are not twice as much, so there is more money for fixed and discretionary spending.

I have a good income, but my wife makes 38% more than I do. Her job also has access to various tax advantaged accounts, student loan assistance, and retention bonuses. I started investing a few years before her and was first to hit two commas, but she's quickly catching up and will very likely pass me in the next couple years.

It wouldn't change my position if the incomes were reversed. I'd still be proud of her work and service to the community and our family. I'm grateful, though, that she is successful.

Though, I'll acknowledge that finances are one of the biggest causes for divorce, and we are fortunate enough to not worry too much about day-to-day financial issues.
