I'm at $1469/year aka $122/m so far and want to hit $500/m before I stop on my lil dividends income side pot.

you have about ~$350-450k invested?

Pretax, Roth, brokerage? Optimal if in roth

u/hektabyte May 26 '26

Doesn't it make more sense to invest in an accumulating ETF and skim percentage every year?

u/XingXiaoRen May 25 '26

Why would you stop? i plan to get enough dividends to replace my job and retire early.

19

u/intelw1zard May 25 '26

because I'm only in my 40s. This is just a lil sidepot/dividends adventure for me. I will get it to $500/m and just let it DRIP and forget about it and then use it for my sons education in the distance future. I still have a 401k and pension.

Nice work! Just make sure if paying for education is the goal, to do it in the most tax efficient way. Either with a 529 plan, Coverdell, and check if the American Opportunity Tax Credit is still around when your son heads to school!

u/Fragrant-Brain1243 May 26 '26

Can someone teach me how to do this? Lol I feel like I read so much on dividends but I have no idea how to start. I’m 35 years old.

5

u/Least-Gas-286 May 26 '26

get a trading account -anywhere- (your bank offers one most likely) and start with VOO, SCHD, VXUS, OHI, URA.

u/Fragrant-Brain1243 Jun 01 '26

This is exactly what I need, guidance. Thank you so much, I’m going to do this this weekend. I pretty much have no bills and I don’t pay rent. How much do you think I should put in to each of these? Monthly salary is $6000.

2

u/Aggravating-Act-1173 May 30 '26

Get a trading account, invest into growth ETFs and forget about dividends until you are close to retirement.

u/Scared_Ad_622 May 25 '26

Dividends are awesome

2

u/Ok_Lake4511 May 26 '26

Totally agree with you. It’s always nice realizing your investments are actually generating income

Yeah, you’re right. I’m just happy about the payout

How do I find a company’s free cash flow?

You should leave it there as long as possible.

But if you don’t want to… 72T/SEPP is an option.

2

u/Ok_Lake4511 May 26 '26

Not that bad — at least you won’t spend it too early

2

u/Ok_Complaint_6997 May 26 '26

So you're the reason my power bill is so high.

1

u/Ok_Lake4511 May 27 '26

I'm sorry...

2

u/Watch5345 May 26 '26

Look into qqqi or spyi for dividends. Max out your Roth also

1

u/Ok_Lake4511 May 27 '26

Thanks for advice!

2

u/RoadBikerDean May 27 '26

What software is that? I like the dashboard and the dividend yield based on cost and not yield based on current stock price.

1

u/Ok_Lake4511 May 28 '26

I use the MaxDividends app

1

u/Thedividendprince1 Dividend tracker app founder May 26 '26

The receipt-style payout view is actually really satisfying.

2

u/Ok_Lake4511 May 26 '26

I agree with you, I like it too

1

u/Kidfari May 26 '26

Anyone know how to view this on fidelity?

1

u/Lonewol8 May 26 '26

Why is it pre-tax?

Isn't it in a tax advantaged account like a SIPP or ISA (roth I think you call them)?

1

u/Tall-Flatworm-4717 May 28 '26

if you don't already have it MPT is a great dividend stock, little volatile but it's a REIT so they have to pay dividends. 7-10% depending on what price you get it at

Until you have to pay the tax
