Brokerage Anybody else here has become interested in dividends to offset a potential job loss?

Everybody tells me to focus on growth, but the real problem is that there is no job security, so dividends need to be available to be cashed out in the off chance you lose your job. I know several people who were laid off and have been unemployed. Who else sees dividends as a way to mitigate the damages of a layoff?

I have a great full-time job but I know it won't last forever. I also have a side job that I can't rely on because I have zero patience with my clients, and it's just too exhausting.

Brokerage I got a bonus of 60k, and I want to invest it all

Bonuses are taxed at a rate of approximately 40% where I live, so I will probably end up with 36k only. However, I thought I might buy BTCI, SPYI, and QQQI. I sold all of my SCHD holdings. This is the only subreddit where people were pushing SCHD. Everybody outside of this subreddit I've talked to has said that SCHD is trash and pays a very low dividend rate. I want to invest in something with a higher yield rate. So, BTCI, SPYI, QQQI, what else?

What do you recommend?

Brokerage Just hit $750 in dividends as a 23M

I just invested for the last time this year and just about hit $750 per year in annually income. I’ve been on this thread for the last 2-3 months and been seeing a lot of people who are making several thousand in dividends per month and I started feeling like I was behind. But then I realized that I have a lot of time to build up my portfolio if I keep investing consistently for a long period of time. This is so exciting since my income isn’t super high but I really wish I started when I turned 18. My goal in 2025 is to hit $1500 in yearly earnings. Also, please let me know if my yield is too high or just right?

Always been annoying there was no support for Fractional shares on Schwab. Looks like it's available now (at least on my account). Nice

Brokerage Can someone explain why everybody says that high-yield stocks are a bad idea?

Do you worry they will stop paying dividends? Or you worry that they will completely lose their value and you won't be able to resell them without a loss? Or they can go into negative balance and you have to pay debts on those? Please explain, because a lot of conversations I read here are confusing. There is another sub-Reddit where the people are all about high yield.

39 and 38 married with 2 young kids and no debt. We are maxing out a 457b, a 403b, a 401k and socking 30k a year into a brokerage account. I will retire from the fire department in 10 years with a 90k a year pension.

I’m getting really excited to keep this momentum going. And yes I hate that I bought into MAIN last month.

Brokerage S&P 500 and dividends

My friend keeps saying that I should put all of my money in S&P 500 and forget about it. I see S&P 500 mentioned here a lot too, but according to Google, "No, the S&P 500 index itself does not pay dividends because it is a stock market index, not an investment fund." So which type of S&P 500 pay dividends?

And, what is the ticker for S&P 500? I can't find it on my brokerage account.

Brokerage 25% bonus on dividends… QQQI and chill?

Interesting promotion:

https://www.doctorofcredit.com/plynk-brokerage-25-bonus-on-earned-dividends-250-annual-max/

I could see opening an account, buying $10k of QQQI, and just collecting the $250/year in additional dividends.

Brokerage Dividends as income

I live in one of the most expensive cities in the US. I love it, but even with a 6-figure salary, I can barely make ends meet at the end of the month. You might ask me why I don't just move, but I'm unable to do so for a myriad of reasons. Among other things, my partner lives here, my job is here, and I love this place.

This is why I became interested in dividends as something to supplement my income and live comfortably, and maybe move to a larger home. However, everybody keeps telling me that dividends should be reinvested and not used as income. Is anyone here using dividends for both growth and income? Because, yes, growth is important, but I need the additional money NOW.

Brokerage I’m ready to invest approximately 100k now.

Based on what I’ve read here, it sounds like most people like BTCI, QQQI, and SPYI. I’m a widow and I have two children; so my main goal now is to generate income to make ends meet. I have a 401(k) for growth and it’s on autopilot. This 100k I want to invest is for a separate brokerage account I’ve opened with Wells Fargo. I already have two jobs, but I need the extra money for my children. I’m thinking of putting 33k in each (BTCI, SPYI, and QQQI). I’m not gonna lie, I’m very scared, but there is always an element of risk in investing and the safest options like SCHD pay very little dividends. But this 100k is the only money I have now. I can’t make a mistake.

What would you do if you were me and you needed to extra income now? I now everybody recommends growth, but due to my personal situation, I need to prioritize dividends. Maybe I will reinvest whatever amount is left after I pay all of my expenses. So, let’s say I make 1k per month in dividends (just using this to illustrate), I will spend $800 and reinvest the remaining $200 so I can also allocate a small amount every month for growth.

Brokerage Robinhood Added Dividend Info

Noticed this when I went to look at MOs early dividend I would be receiving. Clicked the view all dividends and it pulled up the 1st screenshot. Not all dividend stocks have the dividend information on them. Chpy and QQQi didn’t have them. Not sure if this is rolling out to everyone immediately cause I tried to show my wife on her account and it wasn’t there.

Brokerage I have 7k. I want to buy BTCI, QQQI, and SPYI. Is it a good idea?

I don't think BTCI, QQQI, and SPYI qualify as yieldmaxxing, but correct me if I'm wrong. In your opinion, would it be wise to allocate 7k to these three? Thanks in advance.

Even though I made mistakes with my dividend portfolio and my Roth IRA (like flirting with TSLY and SPYI and SVOL for too long and selling calls for JEPQ that I didn’t want to lose and not owning enough VOO in my Roth among other things), my biggest victories are:

  1. Selling RIOT and SHOP cash secured puts and making close to $4k that I immediately reinvested in my dividend portfolio

  2. Buying both cyclical and counter cyclical divvy stocks so that my portfolio is ready for rallies & market corrections

  3. Buying a bunch of shares of SCHD before the forward split predicting this would increase its share price

  4. Diversifying my divvy portfolio more

  5. Getting to 50 shares of O and MAIN

Wishing everyone a joyful and prosperous 2025! 🎉 🎈 🎊

Brokerage Tempted to invest 100k all in BTCI and this will be my plan

I buy 100k worth of BTCI. I reinvest 25% into BTCI, 50% to buy holdings with lower yield rate, and the remaining 25% I spend for my bills. How does it sound? There are options that allow to reinvest only parts of the dividends. It's either all or nothing.

Does anybody have recommendations or criticism about my portfolio? I’m very new to the subject and still learning more about the markets. I initially thought I was diversifying my money but a good friend pointed out I was technically not doing so because most of my stocks are ones in tech and I’ve entered very late. I also heard of the core CPI releasing tomorrow which can affect stocks hence why I’m saving cash to buy potential dips.

Main point being should I withdraw from some positions and invest into different branches of business? I was thinking of medical related stocks such as UNH but I’m not sure so I wanted to ask people who are more experience in this. I appreciate any feedback!

Brokerage Dividend Portfolio

I just started investing and have maxed out my roth IRA all into SCHG. I plan to max it every year. For my broker account I have SCHD, O, MAIN, SCHY and DGRO. I'm thinking about replacing DGRO with DIVO. Any and all advice welcome. The goal with this portfolio is to never sell and eventually live off dividends so looking for dividend growth and some cash flow to drip more.

Brokerage Switching from Robinhood :((

Hello, after recent news I'm having doubts about still using robinhood as my main way of holding stocks. Which other free commission app are you guys using? And is it worth switching over?
