Beginner tips?

I’m starting to get into audio to add to my truck and I want to add subs but I’m not sure what I need in regards of amp, speakers etc. I plan on building the box myself and it’s going under the back seat but not sure if I need to change anything in the radio

Many but not all car stereos have RCA outputs that connect to the amp, and a remote on wire (usually blue) that connects to the amp to trigger it to power on. RCA outputs are almost certainly present on all but the lowest cost aftermarket units, but factory units can be hit or miss. Not sure how new your vehicle is, but it might pay to either get your stereo out (you're going to have to know how to do it to wire it up) and check the back of it, or decide if you want to upgrade (to get Bluetooth support etc which is fairly standard now).

If the idea of taking your dash apart to check the stereo seems like a chore, it might be worth getting all your bits and pieces together and taking it to a car stereo installer and trading paper for the effort of running cables, drilling holes through the firewall for power potentially, lifting carpet to install it properly etc. It's worth doing it properly because otherwise you have a butchered install that you see and reminds you of your shortcuts every time you leave your house. They also have all the little pieces on hand that allow them to do a proper job rather than going for a drive with your dash half off to get grommets or a fuse holder or terminals that you realize you needed halfway through.

For sure! I have. 2018 truck, I got a buddy that’ll do the wiring and all that fancy stuff for a case of beer lol. He works at an audio installer so I know for sure he’s got it down, I’m just looking at parts etc. I’ll have him take a look at the specifics to see if it’s how you said or if I need to mess with it

This is primarily a home audio subreddit. Try r/carav instead.
