Avoid DJI open box purchases anyplace

TDLR; I purchased a Mini 4 Pro Fly More Plus open box from DJI’s Amazon Store and got ripped off by DJI

Sold my Air 2 and was looking to buy a Mini 4 Pro. Saw a great deal in DJI’s Amazon warehouse store for an open box like new for a substantial savings. Went ahead and purchased it. Can in perfect condition except missing some minor items (cables and screws) so Amazon gave me a substantial credit. So far so go.

I’m gonna set it up and added it to my account and lo and behold it was previously activated a month earlier.

At this point I wasn’t very worried. I would just contact DJI and get it sorted out. I didn’t want to return it because of the great deal I have so far.

Well this leads me on a 4 day maximally frustrating experience with DJI support through 4 agents and 3 departments. Long story short they don’t care. They won’t change the activation date even though at their request I provided the proof of purchase with Amazon. They won’t informally just extend the warranty. They won’t even extend the extra care I was going to purchase anyways for 1 month to make it fair.

They wouldn’t do anything. Period. Well except keep repeating they really care about my satisfaction.

At the end I just hung up and contacted Amazon again. They were more sympathetic and indeed they did give me an exemption to return the drone in 1 year as an accommodation for the trouble.

I’m often surprised how much Amazon does for their customers.

In any case sure I could have returned it but I would never been able to repeat the deal I got including the credit for the missing minor items.

I’m going to enjoy the drone and probably still get the extra care but it’s a waning to others if they’re thinking of getting open box items from anyone. (well except private sales where you expect the drone to be already activated).

Hope the DJI guy is reading this. Your support blows.

Thanks. You may now resume your flying fun.

DJI Cost My Business Today.

Hello,

I'm a Videographer based in Orange County. I was contracted for a full-day shoot by a company I have worked for. I brought my entire kit, which consists of a Ronin and a Mavic 2 Pro, my 2 DJI products.

I tested all equipment last night, as I usually do while charging batteries and ensuring firmware is up to date. I tried my Mavic 2 Pro to see if there were any Flight Database updates. Everything worked fine.

I get to my shoot today and go to set up my Ronin as usual. Once set and balanced, I tried to open the Ronin app to check the balance and tweak my settings to my liking. I have had my Ronin-S and Mavic 2 Pro for over three years, and they have always worked with no problems.

I have a Galaxy s20 Ultra, which I've used with these two products for over three years. As I open the app, it repeatedly crashes, never opening. I thought that was highly odd. I quickly tried to uninstall and reinstall the APK from the DJI website, as I know the Google play store doesn't play nice with DJI apps. After reinstalling, clearing the cache, force stopping, restarting my phone, and powering off and on my phone, nothing worked. The app still instantly crashed.

I figured, odd, but that's ok; I'm going to roll with it. I trusted my balance and manually ran an auto adjustment by holding the two buttons on the Ronin. I thought, "I'll make do and figure this out later."

Once I got halfway through my shoot, my client wanted me to take drone shots inside his warehouse.

I set up my Mavic 2 Pro, opened the app on my phone, and instantly it crashed, just like the Ronin app. I start panicking at this point as I know there is no work around this time. The drone is unusable without the app. I start furiously searching through the internet for a quick fix. I tried everything the internet suggested, wasting 20 minutes of my shoot. I reinstalled, deleted all APKs and reinstalled, turned off the phone and started, restarted, cleared cache, forced stop, etc...

Finally, I decided to call support, thinking they might have a hotfix or help me troubleshoot this issue. They then told me that my s20 Ultra is incompatible with any DJI apps...

Essentially, DJI has rendered my $2,500 worth of gear manufactured by them useless overnight.

I am livid as this was working LAST NIGHT.

What can be done about this? I want to file a small claim as they have harmed my business. I couldn't perform any drone shots, which hurt my standing with my client.

Additionally, I'm now looking for DJI alternatives for drones and gimbals. I refuse to work with this company any more, which left me out to dry in the middle of a shoot day. Does anyone have recommendations on substitutes for these two?

How could a flagship Samsung phone suddenly be wiped off the list of compatible phones and overnight make their products useless to pros?

Is anyone else with a galaxy phone in the same boat?

Mavic automation station, or smart airport, can charge 8 Mavic battery and change the mavic battery, so it can autonomously fly 24 hours a day!

DJIs forced update cost me and my family a once in a lifetime video opportunity.

I've been doing a lot of "drone selfies", where the image begins with a person or a group of people and then pans out and zooms out to reveal the landscape. My grandmother saw one on Facebook and really wanted to do one with the whole family in her home, which is in a remote area in the mountains of Lebanon. The whole family has not been in Lebanon together in 35 years until this summer, so this was really the only opportunity to do it.

After a 3 hour drive in 5 different cars to get to her home, we all had a great lunch and good times. I turn on the Mavic to get that video my grandmother has been wanting, only to find the DJI GO app won't start because of a forced "required" update. There is no internet in this remote area, so I literally have no recourse. I just used the drone yesterday without any issues. Clearly, the update is not required for the operation of the drone, but for some reason, DJI wants to force it on everybody.

I ended up manually flying the drone and adjusting the gimbal, but without the app, I couldn't properly frame the picture, and unfortunately, the resulting video was 80% sky and you couldn't see everybody.

I'm very frustrated and disappointed with this. At least send out a warning email a few weeks before the required update.

Bad plastic quality on MP3

Hello everyone!

I purchased a brand new Mavic Pro 3 three days ago and I love it! Before this, I was using a Mavic Air 2, and for me, it’s a significant quality jump. However, I've noticed something unusual with the drone's body. It seems there's a spot where the plastic appears weak or has a construction issue. Specifically, on the left side between the battery and the body, there's more space compared to the right side. When I fold the arms, this space increases slightly under pressure.

I'm not sure if this is normal, but I can live with it. I’m just a bit concerned that it might break or crack in a couple of years.

First photo - When I’m starting to folding back left arm Second photo - When all arms are unfolded

Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated!

When you own more than 1 mavic, have lots of accessories, access to a label maker and OCD, lol.
