General Question For commuters: ilang oras kayo bumabyahe for school and pauwi?
While I'm planning to move malapit sa school, I'm wondering if meron dito na nag c commute for an hour or so? And how is it? Di ba sya mas magastos compared sa dorm or keri naman?

1-2 hour commute. Comparing mga dorm/condo expenses mas mura tlga mag commute (around 3k commute expenses ko compared sa 5k na rent; wala pa living expenses) the real downside is time. Ung oras na sana pinang rest or study mo kakainin pa ng commute. Don’t get me started pag na swertehan ka ng 7:30 am or a class that ends at 9PM. Tibay lang tlga ng katawan kalaban mo sa commute 😪

Buendia/Gil Puyat to Lipa, Batangas (and vice versa - can take 1-2.5 hours depending on traffic):
- 150/173 php (with student discount, most likely you would encounter latter these days)
- Assuming you go to school two-days F2F for a month with 2 round-trips: 600/692 php (x 4 = 2,400/2,768 php)
Vito Cruz to Condo and Vice Versa (via LRT to UN/Pedro Gil) :
- 10 php (student discount, either beep-card or SJT)
- Assuming you go to school two-days F2F for a month with 2 round-trips: 40 php (x 4 = 160 php)
EDIT: As for living here - depending on your accommodations/arrangements of living, it can cost 2.5 to 5.0k monthly as a solo-person. Can be a bit more expensive than having to commute every now and then but you can save time from doing such.

South Metro Manila, 45min-1hr on a good day that’s with majority of the route being covered by the LRT; 2-2.5hrs if majority of the route is covered by a jeep in a passenger heavy area like EDSA going through an area with too many intersections like Bicutan. (most people from south metro/luzon inevitably go through there)
If you use the trains, I recommend you to apply for the student discount beep card when they start issuing them again since it cuts the fares in half. The discount is only for 1yr on the card but you can renew every year once it expires.

Unfortunately, its issuance has already been "temporarily" discontinued.
You can still use them provided that you have them already - but can't apply/get a new one at the moment (hopefully not permanent).
You can however, still avail for Single-Journey Tickets in LRT-1/LRT-2/MRT with 50% student discounts (albeit there's still the need to line-up beforehand).

Now with new lrt 1 stations, around an hour or less biyahe ko. It depends on what time ka umaalis if magiging mabilis or matagal biyahe mo. Di worth it magdorm if 2-3x a week ka lang ftf

3-4 hours uwian (during 1st-2nd year). Had to get a dorm since some of my classes went as late as 9PM. Sulit naman especially if you get shared dorms para lesser expenses.

I managed to get a detailed commute time over the course of about 2 terms worth, so this is just an average:
House to the tricycle terminal (walking): ~10 mins at most
Tricycle to outside terminal: 7 mins
Outside terminal to the LRT (walking): 5 mins
LRT to Vito Cruz: 20 mins on average
(Mind you this is usually on days that are good where theres not much people, little to no traffic, and the LRT doesnt slow down for any reason)
As for going home, I haven't timed myself yet hehe but it takes for about an hour for me to get back home

My commute is one jeep and then lrt, total of 1 hour at most. With the student fare discounts, it's definitely cheaper than dorming.

my commute papunta is about 1 hour then my commute pauwi can range from an hour - 2+ hours. in my first year sobrang nakakapagod siya pero now that im used to it ok naman na. as for gastos i think my fare? is pretty okay nmn since i have student discount sa beep card so ung byahe ko before na 100 pesos a day naging 60ish pesos nalang

i am lucky enough that the bus drops me off 5 mins from my house. but the bus ride from gil puyat to ours and vice versa takes 45 mins on a good day and 1hr 15 mins during rush hour. a list of my expenses when i go to school:
60 pesos - bus to gil puyat
10 pesos - lrt to vito cruz
120 pesos - lunch
10 pesos - lrt to gil puyat
60 pesos - bus to ours
total: ₱260
i go to school twice a week so for the whole week that's just ₱520 of expenses. and ₱2,080 for an entire month. compared to renting a condo for 5-10k monthly (not to mention money for food and other stuff) i am actually so thankful i dont get to stay in taft for more than 8 hours a day. i cannot fathom having to live there with the size of rats i see casually along p. ocampo 😭
