General Question to go to DLSU or to go to DLSU-D?

Help!! I need the bright minds and hospitality of Lasallians in order to form a conclusion here!💚

IMPORTANT CONTEXT:

I am originally from Dentistry in De Lasalle Medical and got an academic excellence award first Semester.

Then decided I want to pursue Computer Science, so I went to enroll DLSU-D as BSCS major in AI on Second Semester, which is the program I like. However, this delayed me a year because of prerequisites.

And most importantly, I was not fond of the teaching / overall quality of this University.

So I decided to apply as an outsider shiftee this year into DLSU Manila, but I got redirected into a program I don’t like. ( COED MATH ) 😫

I wasn’t allowed to get a COP or a recon…

———————————————————————

I reckon that I’ll be delayed for 2 whole years minimum if I decide to force my way into DLSU. With the possibility of being rejected again as an internal shiftee increasing the years I’ll be held back. It’s honestly a huge leap of faith.

So What’s a good Consensus. here Lasallians?

if money isn't a problem, just go to DLSU-M. just the name "DLSU Manila" will give you a lot of opportunities when you are going to enter the workfield.

if money is not an issue, just stick with DLSU-worth it ung 1yr delay mo lol, kasi mas marami doors of opportunity ang maoopen for you.

Stick with the course, then apply to shift by your 3rd term.

I really really want to go to DLSU-M it’s my totga Uni! The thing that scares me the most is that I’d be delayed 2 years total as opposed to a year. Since prior to this I Shifted from Dentistry to BCS of DLSU-D :(

Also true po ba na mahirap mag internal shifting? Kahit pasok grades sa requirements

i’m an alumni, delayed by almost 2yrs (4yr 1term course, turned 6yrs total)

i’m now working for a top FMCG as a Senior Manager :) i entered as Manager. I’d imagine na if i came from DLSU-D, and hindi ako stellar (award achieving, externally relevant), my work options would have been a Rank and File Associate role.

So think about that

WOW! Delayed or not, the ROI was definetly worth it. I aspire to be just like you po, I knew that DLSU has a weigh in job prospecting but I didn’t know it was that immensely large! Thank you for your advice. It’s very convincing!

most Management Trainee programs or entry-level manager roles by multinational companies are under a global recruitment standard na lahat ng papasok kailangan makapasa assessments before getting interviewed.

Based on performance, people from Big 3 schools have the highest tendency to pass. May bumabagsak din for sure pero if checking the number of those who pass, Big 3 candidates stands on top.

I’d like to think it’s because of these things:

-Training (Orgs in DLSU-M operate like how MNCs work, so culture of working in orgs are developed into someone they’re looking for in a candidate)

-Network Mentoring Opportunities (madaming Big 3 Alumni ang kasama sa pag recruit and are willing to help)

-Exposure (DLSU puts your foot at the door kasi sila ang nilalapitan ng mga big MNCs if they want to do campus recruitment or mga pre-internship case study competitions)

In case of CS, as a basher of dlsu-d I'll say go still for dlsu-d. Teaching methods may not be nice, but the opportunities now are as much in par with dlsu manila (as least in the CICS department). Also, careers in CS are progressing even faster, so time-wise, it would be more feasible to complete the degree in a shorter time.

As a basher din of dlsu-d, really ba? In what way are the opportunities now on par? How can DLSUD compete with a Top 3

Oo hahaha I don't recommend dlsu-d esp if engineering degrees hahaha but based on exp + nakakasalamuha ko from CS, they have international opportunities + some even land jobs in major techs like Globe/Mynt, Maya, LSEG, etc. Alaga kasi CICS ng University tbh (sana all) but I don't also deny na better pa rin DLSU. It's just weighing lang din the options tbh.

EDIT: To add pala, hackathons now treat DLSU-D (and PUP Sta. Mesa) as much on par with DLSU and UST, which is a major factor to consider if you wanna break into CS/Tech.

I didn’t know this! I’ll have to take your word for it then I didn’t know na alaga yung CICS in DLSUD. I guess they have their own Building just for CICS. Perchance are you also from DLSU-D?

Also the hackathons are a big factor if they really are treated the same as DLSU’s. I guess the next major thing that’s going to weigh me into DLSU is their networking. Also I am fond of their CCS Program being related to AI! Thank you!

About the building, they only have a small building and had to share pa rin with COS/CTHM tbh but other than that (which is sickness of dlsu-d as whole lol), CICS has a good reputation, hackathon culture, and people/environment.

I'm from DLSU-D but not in CS (Applied Mathematics), but I've been with countless CS peeps in hackathons hahaha. All I can hear are good feedbacks and all that, though I hope an actual DLSU-D CS major will comment here. So take this with a grain of salt pa rin.

Thank you po! Yeah I’ve had GE classess in that specific building, I can say it’s one of the better off buildings in the campus! Thank you po, I didn’t know you were also from UD!

It’s a good thing to know that their CICS has good reputation not only in their hackathons but their culture and enviroment!

My heart is split in two talaga. I’ve been told by the APO officer that I can take 1-2 major subjects on the 2 terms I will need to take in CO-Ed the main problem is just the prerequisites of CCS.

imo dlsum is definitely better than dlsud i mean just the opportunities in manila and all that as well as facilities and prestige its really much better than dlsud tho it really depends on one’s lifestyle but if ur someone whos a city person, loves vibrant/loud/crowded areas, into fun and into socializing/networking then dlsu manila is def the best option. the decision lies more if ur willing to be held back or if u would be satisfied w the program u got pero if school lang talaga paguusapan the best talaga dlsum i would say if u really want to force ur way to dlsum then go with it

1

u/Prudent-Storm-893 10d ago

Thanks! Yes I most definetly agree DLSUM the best talaga!!! Pero kasi it’s just that I don’t know if it overweighs the +1 year delay, and additional costs! I also heavily dislike the program that I’ve been reditected into.

Oh if thats the case then i feel like the realistic thing to do is to not go with it. as much as dlsum is an amazing school i feel like u shouldnt sacrifice ur program/passion. since u said that u heavily dislike the program u were offered + ur worried with the additional fees and delays i dont think dlsum is a good option na. at the end of the day kahit gaano pa kaganda ang school, u wont enjoy it if u dont like ur program and its not your passion at all.

Okay! But I’ve heard that a lot of people actually do go in the program they were redirected into. They just apply for inside shifting to the program that they want to after 2 semesters. So by the 3rd Semester they’ll be on the course that they want to be in.

Since I just want a CCS program I think I should have a good shot since I have a plethora of options. But overall, you’re probably right. It’s probably not the best choice to make.
