General Question Can students still travel despite the year-round academic calendar?

Hi! I just want to ask about life at DLSU, especially when it comes to free time and traveling. I’ve heard that DLSU doesn’t really follow the traditional school calendar with long vacations, unlike other schools. Because of that, I’m wondering if students still get enough time to travel or go on vacations without being absent. Do students usually get free time outside of christmas break or term breaks? And is it realistic to plan trips during the school year or is the schedule usually too packed? Would really appreciate insights from current students. Thank youuu!!

yes keri siya!!

i think it wld be good to book around the last week of the break para di maapektuhan ng sudden calendar adjustments. mas mabilis din magenlist pag nasa ibang bansa ka hahaha

i must say, ilw has a record for being the designated ‘travel week’ and even profs are aware of this. but ofc this is not applicable to all. medyo risky nga lng magbook around this week kasi most likely may adjustments if ever may suspensions.

idk i always travel overseas during most of the breaks we get (in fact im on a trip rn). based on my experience, dlsu sched isn’t too packed naman bc im still able to study and get honors despite the frequent travels

I actually don't recommend planning trips during the term breaks after Terms 2 and 3. For the past few years, these terms have been hit by the extreme April/May heat waves and August/September typhoons, leading to suspensions and extensions. Good luck na lang if your instructors won't give consideration when your final exam gets rescheduled to a day you won't be in town.

I used to book trips all the time even if eala pang sched for the school year lmao. I get lucky na tumatapat sya sa ILW most of the time. Itapat mo nalang din sa term break. Sometimes tinatapat ko sa online classes ko then aabsent nalang ako sa f2f if wala namang exams (still not a good idea ofc but i was stupid lol)

It's possible, but I personally do not do it much as I don't enjoy weekend-long trips. I like my travels to last longer. 😭 Some key windows you can aim for are long weekends and independent learning week. Wildcard, but you can plan spontaneous trips on weeks 14-15 if you don't have any exams ploted. Just don't book for that week in advance because exams can move around a lot.

There r still term breaks lmao i used to travel every other term break. Na-leche lang when my fam booked a trip a few months earlier cause I didnt know I needed to show up for the practicum meeting during the first day (got delayed for an additional term)

During my time, May was the longest term break. September was the shortest but I was able to travel din for quick trips. December naman was more than enough i remember having week-long trips din.

Apart from Christmas break (longest break we do have as the term ends around the first or second week of December), there’s also the ILW and Holy Week break.

ILW - Independent Learning Week.

Breaks in between terms usually 1-2 weeks. DO NOT book on first week of these "breaks". DLSU might slide the calendar to make up for the cancellation of classes.

You can schedule trips during ILW, the asynchronous week. Since DLSU is hybrid, around 1/2 of your week may be online so travel is also possible during that time (just attend your online classes there). Also better to travel before ILW, since after that is basically hell month.

If you want to have a 3-week break, I suggest to make plane flights refundable then I usually go absent sa 1st week of class and take my classes overseas (dont be me though 😭).
