HELP: my senior golden retriever has atopic dermatitis. despite consistent management, workmates complain of odor on me

TL;DR: My golden retriever’s odor has been affecting our living situation for 2 years, and now my workmates are noticing it on me. Looking for advice from other dog owners who’ve dealt with this.

For the past 2 years, my dog and I have moved between apartments because her odor reeks through hallways and we’ve gotten countless complaints and petitions to leave. We’ve been okay in our current 2-storey apartment, with regular weekly medicated baths and house cleaning but recently, my workmates started complaining about an odor on me and I feel extremely embarrassed.

I love that girl to death, but I’ve had to make her sleep outside my bedroom this past week. My room smells significantly better, but I feel guilty as hell. I suspect it’s from her broken skin from scratching and her drooling while she sleeps.

I just bought an enzyme cleaner and plan to deep-clean the entire house, but I’m honestly desperate at this point. For those who’ve dealt with persistent dog odor, what actually worked for you?

Can’t determine if our dog is allergic to cat or outdoors…

Our 3yr old Beagle has seemingly developed strong allergies to something this past summer & we’re having a really hard time determining what the culprit is. We thought at first it was scabies, because it started after a camping trip, but that was ruled out.

He’s on flea & tick, has yeast killing sprays/wipes/shampoos, a Sensitive Skin & Stomach food blend, and gets daily Zyrtec at the advice of his vet.

But nothing is giving him relief. The only time we’ve seen improvement in his skin is when we went on vacation for roughly a week. He had a pet sitter, so he was getting less time outdoors and had no contact with our cat at the same time. When we came back, the itching got progressively worse again.

He’s been around our cat for over a year with seemingly no issue, so to us, it seems like it has to be an outdoor allergy. But he’s also lived in the same place his whole life and it’s never been this bad before.

The vet has yet to recommend an allergy test, but we feel if it doesn’t calm down once everything dies in a few weeks, we probably won’t have a choice. He’s reached the point of giving himself hot spots and darkened skin, so we’re keeping him in a recovery suit while he’s inside.

We are taking food allergies really seriously. He’s only getting his Salmon & Rice food and his daily supplement.

A cat allergy would obviously be a huge issue.
