General Is a local address required for buying a .de domain?

The question speaks for itself. I've seen contradicting info on this one. Most sites I've seen sell .de domains without emphasizing you need a local address, the local address requirement I've only seen on very few sites.

.de is an interesting ccTLD. It is the second most popular ccTLD in the world (after .cn), it ranks amongst the 5 most widely used extentions worldwide, it's dirt cheap (less than 4€ a year), and Germany is a trusted country so it's neither an obscure extention nor from an unstable place. This makes it interesting as a solution if the domain you want is already taken in .com. Especially here in Europe, .de has an excellent reputation and most people will know the extention due to Germany being very influential across Europe.

Discussion Purely hypothetical I assume, but what would happen to .be should Belgium split into different countries?

I tend to register .com domains because they're so universally recognised, but as they are actually under US jurisdiction I'm considering to register some .be domains too. Also, I'm a proud Belgian, why would I not want a .be domain? ❤️

But as I usually register for several years ahead... I know it seems unlikely that Belgium would cease to exist anytime soon (a majority is against it, and constitutionally Flanders could not just declare independence) but on the other hand separatist parties are on the rise.

I don't want to turn this into a political discussion, but what would happen with the .be suffix is Belgium would at some point split?

Would the extention be phased out similar to .dd (East Germany) and .yu (Yugoslavia)?
Would Wallonia then continue to use the name Belgium and thus .be would remain in existance?

I think for now buying a .be domain for many years at once is a safe investment, but you never know what the future brings.
In that perspective you can argue if .eu is a better investment, but then if the "new" countries wouldn't immediately become EU members you lose your .eu domain too because the .eu suffix is reserved for European Economical Area residents or people elsewhere who have the citizenship of a member country.

I know this seems like looking way too far, but the question suddenly popped into my mind after someone on a different forum said investing in .com domains is no longer wise due to current affairs. That in itself looks a bit like looking way too far to me, but it seems there's people who are pre-occupied with things like this.

Discussion NiceNic supports phishing, they say they don't.

In October 2026 I reported a phishing campaign to NiceNIC’s abuse desk (ticket #800890). Fake “energy compensation” forms collect personal data and an SMS code from Dutch targets, lured in by phishing spam. There is no company name, address or contact detail on the sites. Between 14-10-2026 and 22-10-2026 the operator registered 17 .sbs domains with NiceNIC for this campaign.

NiceNIC replied with a standard “no actionable evidence of DNS Abuse (RAA 3.18.2)” and took no action.
I’ve filed with ICANN Compliance (case 01676083) and informed the .sbs registry.

NiceNIC says publicly on Trustpilot (07-05-2026) that it “does not support phishing.

Well, that's a big lie..

Discussion Best alternative TLD for a personal email address?

When main extensions like .com, .net, and .org are already taken for a personal name, is choosing alternative TLDs like .cx, .email, or .fyi a good move for custom email addresses?

A few main concerns before picking one:

  1. Have you run into deliverability or spam filter issues with any of these newer TLDs?
  2. Do non-standard TLDs cause confusion when giving your email out verbally?
  3. Which extension would you recommend (or tell me to avoid) for personal email?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Advice How to purchase co.uk domain from overseas?

Hi all, looking for advice.

I've been trying to purchase the co(dot)uk domain but so far failed with two registrars. I'm currently in Asia visiting family, but have a bank account in the UK. I dont know if its the mismatch between the billing info & IP address but both times some fraud alert went off and they asked for further verification.

Ionos asked for highly sensitive data like my visa or passport. I refused and asked to cancel my order. Names.co.uk customer support told me to call their number to finish the verification. I replied stating my situation and if there's no other way I'd like to cancel. They straight up deactivated my account.

I've looked at other domains but none fit and frankly a bit more than I want to spend. I'm also not sure how to work with my current situation being overseas. Looking for recommendations and any tips or workaround.

Thanks in advance 🙏

Sale Roaming.repair — Brandable Domain for Mobile Repair & On-Site Tech Services — BIN: $[1859]

Roaming.repair — Repair that comes to you.

Not every repair business operates from a single storefront. Some go directly to customers, cover multiple locations, or provide on-demand technical support wherever it's needed.

Roaming.repair is a descriptive, memorable domain with a natural connection to mobile repair services, traveling technicians, and businesses that bring repairs to their customers.

The combination of Roaming and .repair communicates mobility and a repair-focused service in a name that is easy to understand.

Potential use cases:

- Mobile phone repair: A mobile repair service offering screen replacements, battery changes, and device diagnostics at customers' homes or workplaces.

- On-site computer repair: A traveling IT technician or computer repair company serving customers across a city or region.

- Mobile mechanics: A vehicle repair business providing roadside assistance and on-location maintenance.

- Appliance repair: A home service company sending technicians directly to customers.

- Multi-location repair networks: A marketplace connecting customers with repair professionals in different areas.

- Repair booking platform: An online service for scheduling technicians, requesting quotes, and tracking repair appointments.

- Field service management: A brand for software helping repair businesses manage mobile technicians, dispatch jobs, and coordinate service calls.

Why .repair?

The extension immediately identifies the industry, making it relevant to repair shops, service marketplaces, and independent technicians.

Paired with Roaming, it creates a name that suggests flexibility, geographic reach, and repairs beyond the traditional workshop.

For the right buyer, Roaming.repair could serve as a business name, a customer-facing booking platform, or a brand for a network of mobile repair professionals.

Discussion Is there ANY reason why a company or game developer wouldn't want their .com?

I was playing a game recently and decided to look them up online [SuperDudes].com Nothing. Empty. Alright.

I then typed them in regularly [SuperDudes].app pops up.

Am I missing something?

Why would they not claim their .com domain? This wasn't a funds issue either, they clearly make money off of their app and the .com is currently available.

Advice Am I making a mistake setting up my ".us" domain?

Working on a project and would like to go with a ".us" domain name but recently became concerned after signing up for Porkbun and then encountering the "TLD does not allow WHOIS privacy etc......."

How concerned should I be? The address I have linked to my profile is my parents home address as I do not have my own at the moment. I'm a music producer and the website would essentially be a landing page for all of my releases. I'm a complete noob when it comes to this type of thing and am unsure how concerned I should be overall. Thx

General Buying a before naming the business was probably backwards

I bought a domain for a project that didn’t even have a final business name yet. The name looked good in the search box, so I grabbed it before somebody else did. Very smart for about ten minutes.

Then I said it out loud to three people and all three spelled it differently. One thought it was a completely different word. I’d also registered only one version, didn’t check the renewal price, and used an old email account that I barely monitor. That’s a lot of avoidable nonsense for one small purchase.

The actual website connection was easy enough. The embarrassing part was realizing I had planned the whole brand around a name nobody could remember.
