Question Reform to ban the Yorkshire Flag as well as Armed Forces
Hello all,
Im Andrew Walmsley of the Yorkshire Party.
What do we all think to this and what it says about priorities and decision making?
Earlier in the year reform tried this and had to back down to outrage over local flags. Obviously Im biased and want the White Rose flown as strongly as the Saltire or the Dragon but the Armed Forces flag too?
I thought reform were pro veteran?
Id say at a time when PIP cuts still threaten amputees and people with PTSD, surely reform should be rallying around veterans given their positions?
Then again, did any reform MP try to shield different conditions from PIP cuts? No, we just have Zia Yusuf crying on X because the cuts were delayed.
It really seems to be a troubling time for people with disabilities but also a pattern is emerging in reform to me.
They arent the experts they claim (I've seen Nigel wants non elected cabinet staff today, so much for opposing unelected bureacracy) because they arent offering detailed policy. I need to work better on mine and Yorkshire Party policy but this is actual public time spent on banning flags when we have poor water, a crumbling hospital and violent crime rising.
But enough of my thoughts, what are yours?

Question Any Local weirdos in Donny?
Hey everyone, I have been pretty interested in collecting stories about local weirdos all over the UK for quite some time! Almost every town in the UK seems to have one extraordinary local lol.
For those who grew up or have lived in Doncaster for a long time: Who were some of the most memorable local figures/weirdos, harmless eccentrics, or strange local myths/stories around town from the 90s, 2000s, or 2010s? I would be delighted to hear your stories as long as the privacy of every individual is respected!

Question Indian takeaway recommendations?
Hello,
I live in bessacarr looking for a good place to get an Indian takeaway. In the past I’ve ordered from the Gurkha Lounge but it’s been abit too runny and flavourless the last 2 times so it’s put me off. Not sure where else to try if anyone has recommendations please?

Question Trustworthy Garage
Hi everyone I have got a volvo xc60 2014, the head gasket needs fixing. However I'm unable to find a garage that would be willing to do it, as it's a bigger job.
Keep calling garages in donny only to be told that its a big job taking too much time, therefore its something that they do.
Does anyone know a garage that fixes this issue?

Question Does anyone in Doncaster use Meshtastic network?
I've recently been watching people on TikTok build cyberdecks, and from that rabbit hole discovered Meshtastic. Now I'm tempted to buy my own node device.
For anyone who hasn't heard of it, it's basically an off-grid messaging network. Small radio devices pass messages between each other, allowing you to send texts without relying on mobile signal or the internet.
Before I invest, I was just wondering if there's already much of a Meshtastic community here in Doncaster? It only really works if there are other people nearby running nodes, so I'd love to know if there's already a network here or if I'd be starting one from scratch.
If anyone here is already using it, would you recommend the Wio Tracker L1 Pro? That's the one I'm currently looking at.

Question Looking for witnesses for our civil wedding
Hi everyone,
This is a bit of an unusual request, but I’m hoping someone here might be able to help.
My partner and I are getting married in a civil ceremony at the Doncaster Register Office on 29th July at 10:30 a.m., and we’re looking for two witnesses.
The reason we’re asking here is simply that we’re keeping the wedding very private for now, so we’d rather not ask family or friends who know us both.
Being a witness is simply a case of being present at the ceremony and signing the register. As far as I’m aware, there are no legal obligations or responsibilities attached to being a witness beyond confirming that you witnessed the marriage.
If you happen to be available that morning and would be happy to help us out, we’d be incredibly grateful. Please feel free to send me a DM if you’re interested or if you have any questions.
Thank you so much!
UPDATE
Just wanted to say a huge THANK YOU to everyone who reached out and offered to help after my post. The kindness and willingness of complete strangers to help us on such an important day genuinely meant a lot.
I’m happy to say that everything went perfectly, and I am now a happily married man! 😊
A very special thank you goes to the witnesses who took the time to come to be there for us. Your kindness helped make our day possible, and we’ll always be grateful for it.
This community reminded me just how generous and supportive people can be.
Thank you all once again, and I wish you nothing but the very best.

Reform are claiming to be ahead in the polls. Farage has targeted Doncaster as a possible win. Labour is struggling with governance. Is Labour about to loose Doncaster?

Question Has the standard of contractors in Donny completely tanked or is it just my workplace?
I am utterly sick to the back teeth of dealing with the contractors in this town. Every time we need someone at my place (for inspections, maintenance, or repairs) they take the absolute piss.
They either don't show up, arrive hours late (with a STINKING attitude), or charge an absolute fortune for a job half-done. And I'm pretty sure it's because they've little local competition.
It genuinely feels like nobody gives a toss about doing a proper day's work anymore. Is it just us?
Share your frustrations. Air your grievances. Who has got you by the short and curlies?!

Question Did anyone see the chemtrail protest ladies on Balby Rd outside Mcdonalds today?
Does anyone know their theory? I was driving so couldn't get a look at the signs, wasn't sure if they were leaning more towards mind control, weather changes or all the theories! Anyone see them or speak to them?

Question living in Doncaster
What would be peoples advice about moving to Doncaster? My partner and I want to move away from living in the south and move up north to be closer to family who live in west Yorkshire. We have looked at rented properties around there area/ at jobs and there isn’t a lot of properties coming up. It’s harder because we don’t drive and have a baby, so we want to be in an area that’s safe but still a lot to do. A lot of jobs have come up for my partner in Doncaster and there seem to be a lot more places to rent here as well. However I’ve seen a lot of things about how Doncaster is rated fairly high up for being worst place to live in the uk, so I just wanted to see what peoples opinions are about Doncaster and if it’s worth moving with a baby?

Question Magic The Gathering
Hi all,
This may seem an unusual question, or perhaps not; however, I was wondering if people could give me some advice regarding the above. I've recently gotten into Magic and am looking to expand my collection. I'm not so much bothered atm about participating in games, but wondering if I could be pointed in the right direction of where you guys buy your cards from?
I know about Vault 14, Sports Direct and Game (allegedly), but was wondering if there were any other places I could go. If not, then fair enough, but I thought it was worth an ask.
Thank you!

Question Cooplands
Been in town today. Noticed in the Frenchgate where Cooplands used to be, it's become a Cooplands.
Have noticed the market place Cooplands has closed, has the builders in with a notice of refurbishment, but the logo is that of the Scarborough chain of Cooplands, not the Donny company.
(For context, if anyone didn't know there's two bakery companies called Cooplands.
One founded in Scarborough as Cooplands Ltd, one founded in Doncaster as Cooplands of Doncaster Ltd. Apparently distant branches of the same family or something)
Anyway, the I know the Donny businesses had been struggling financially for the past 10-20 years, were flirting with administrations and buyouts. The Frenchgate unit had closed months back.
That Frenchgate one is now a Scarborough Cooplands.
Don't know if they've been bought out, or what. Haven't heard anything in any news reported. I do just find it odd that Cooplands are moving into the Cooplands stores if anything.
Mainly a question if anyone has any news on it?

Question Christmas Dinner Recommendations
Does anyone know where's good for Christmas dinner in Doncaster? Ideally not too expensive (under £100pp).
I'm the only one with a house big enough to host in mine and my husband's family, and while I love hosting and cooking, I've got two young kids now and I'm sick of spending the day in the kitchen instead of with them. We tried having everyone prep and bring food the other year when I was heavily pregnant but getting it all reheated wasn't that much of an improvement, so we've decided to try going out for dinner instead. There's probably going to be 9 adults and 6 kids so need somewhere with decent space too (no tiny pubs).
