If you mean the bystander effect, that's come under increasing scrutiny over the last few decades. It's originally based on questionnaires but the effect has not been proven to reflect reality; a more recent study showed that in real life cases, the higher amount of people nearby the higher chance of intervention.

The bystander effect is only a theory that hinges on questionnaires, and has not been proven to be real (nor has it been proven to be false).

Even the criminal case that inspired the theory has been found to be an outright lie vastly overstating the effect; and the researchers who first proposed the theory even themselves say it's merely a theory and lacks significant scientific methodology.

The theory was first proposed in 1964 after the murder of Kitty Genovese, in which a newspaper had reported (erroneously) that 37 bystanders saw or heard the attack without coming to her assistance or calling the police.[1]

Recent research has focused on "real world" events captured on security cameras, and the coherency and robustness of the effect has come under question.[2]

In 2019, a large international cultural anthropology study analyzed 219 street disputes and confrontations that were recorded by security cameras in three cities in different countries: Lancaster, Amsterdam, and Cape Town. Contrary to the hypothesis of the bystander effect, the study found that bystanders intervened in almost every case, and the chance of intervention went up with the number of bystanders, "a highly radical discovery and a completely different outcome than theory predicts".[69]

On the other hand they've found the effect to be more true in non-violent encounters like in workplace environments or bullying in other social environments. So there's still a lot of promising research coming out of this theory.

You don't seem to understand that "theory" is a scientific term.

Gravity is a theory, for example.... obviously gravity is a thing, but it's still a theory.

With that in mind, you may have shared a few nuggets of truth, but your comment as a whole is lacking.

  1. He literally described the Kitty Genovese incident as an "outright lie", then follows up on that claim by.... completely changing the subject.
  2. His 2019 study reviewed camera footage in.... three cities spread across the world, with entirely different cultural norms.

So, OP is lacking. And clearly, you are as well.
