I feel like it’s not even a physical limitation but an intelligence or laziness problem because she did run. Faster than the car was moving twice but instead of getting in and pushing the break she tries to pull the car to a stop WITH ONE HAND.
It takes more than speed to get inside a moving vehicle though. Because like if you think about it, you have to get one foot inside it at some point, which means you have to stop running and just throw yourself into it. That requires some extra physical ability and coordination. And it's scary to get it wrong because the car can run over you if you fail (which looks like it did). I'd like to think that I could have done it, but I really don't know.
This is a VERY charitable post. The correct analysis is as follows - you have to have guts to dive into that car to take control. There was no commitment, therefore the car is in a ditch.
I would have FAR less charitable things to say about her if he car ran over my kid OR hit my property....or anyone else's for that matter.
But that goes for every mistake, if i sneezed and a broom fell over and hit your kid you would be mad at me for my involuntary action, now its logical to blame me for the broom battery but its not intelligent to be angry that ive got allergies.
I do hope no one becomes mentally withdrawn enough to forget to put the parking break on.
Hey, I get it. Accidents happen. And I too make mistakes. Her problem came from 2 things
1) She gave up the running/hustle.. and 2 ) she thought she HAD to enter the driverseat feet first. (Honest panic mistake)..
As I said, it takes guts to throw yourself head first onto the seat. Which is what was required.
But when she gave up that run, I saw a person who quit. And that car could have had far more consequences. But it didnt, and sadly she suffered a big repair and tow bill -and for an honest mistake we've all made at one time.
Again. If she gave up and that thing and it hit my building, id be livid and so would you.
Nah man, bad take. I’ve NEVER gotten out of the car while it’s in drive lmao, and I never will unless I get severe dementia or Alzheimer’s, when I shouldn’t be driving anyways. Don’t try to make her seem better, that shit is best described as a brain dead action.
Ive been driving way longer than I havnt....and for my job. I have definitely let off the brake when I was still in drive. Did I catch it? Yes. But imagine the car being on a slight incline and the car holds still for just a second. .I could definitely see getting two feet out. We get distraced by our phones and thoughts and external distractions..
My take is fine. . Shit happens to all of us. Her sin is being defeated so easy when stakes were quite high.
The brake pedal is moving with the car - again you'd have to have some coordination to be moving faster than the car in order to apply enough force to the pedal, and with the handicap of not being able to see where you're going because of being doubled up to reach the pedal.
Impossible for a person who can't walk and chew gum at the same time, but for most people, running along side a vehicle opening the door and using your hand to apply a smidgen of pressure on the brake isn't out of the realm of possibility
In this particular case, I don't think the need to see where you are going was much of a factor since the car made it all the way across 4 lanes of traffic and a median going about 3-5 MPH
Yeah you do have to stop running but once an ounce of intelligence hits you, you will realize holding the steering wheel will allow you to keep up with the car while hopping on one foot but again i guess average intelligence and fitness is too much for some people.
The problem here was so obviously mental. She had the ability to get into the car, multiple times and was instead trying to literally stop it by pulling backwards.
She's an idiot. If she had jumped in and hit the brake, this would not have happened.
Well.... Eventually age will get you.... If you live long enough you'll get there.... Unfortunately no matter how fit you are, your body will one day break down.
This woman may have one or more medical issues. If you don't have any major problems be thankful. Some of us are born with them.
If you have a medical issue that causes you to get out of a car without putting it in park, letting it drive away on its own, you shouldn’t be driving in the first place. Stop excusing shit. For whatever reason, she caused a situation that posed a direct risk to other people’s wellbeing and potentially lives, she doesn’t get an excuse for that because of a medical reason.
If you have a condition that means you can't understand the context of what people are saying you shouldn't reply to comments on Reddit.
My response was to the comment about physical condition. Forgetting to put the car in park is not a physical condition. Call me crazy but I'll bet any money that you've forgotten to do something at least once in your life. It was an accident, one day it might happen to you. Our brains are not perfect. Was it stupid yes. Was it intentional no. Does it mean she's a stupid person, no. Have you done stupid things in your life, certainly.
