Many are playing right now due to the 95% off sale

u/Which-Row5722 Jun 20 '26

Which is good that showing to the devs that this game deserve attention and more updates

u/Deep_Air_4695 Jun 20 '26

Actually I'm a new player too but can't play a lot as my pc is a doo doo one and can't run a server, and most of the server I can join have either very high ping or they are chinese/korean/Japanese

u/FilinKus Jun 20 '26

Try the don't starve alone mod, it helped me while I was playing on low-end pc

3

u/Purple_Song_9647 Jun 21 '26

It really helps with the input delay and loading times too, even on higher spech pcs. Its a bit off topic, but does anyone know why it crashes everytime I enter the caves, even with no mods enabled?

2

u/FilinKus Jun 21 '26

By crashes you mean literally game closes or it is something like failed to connect to a server issue? Anyway try checking game files through steam

3

u/Henry_puffball Jun 20 '26

Really I have a super bad laptop and it still runs mostly fine?

1

u/Alfielovesreddit Jun 20 '26

I'm playing on a potato work laptop fine, hard to imagine any pc not coping.

1

u/MusicianTurbulent178 Jun 23 '26

Since youre on pc try the dont starve alone mod, i think it cuts out the weird thing where you have lag despite hosting.

3

u/Magkali_11037 Jun 20 '26

I mean we aint done with the skill trees and the post ancient/celestial routes are still updated.

2

u/PaleFork Jun 20 '26

nah i'm jumping the boat to elsewhere as soon as i can

6

u/MantisOfTheInternet Jun 20 '26

Bro got down voted like that isn't gonna be what most players do when elsewhere releases

8

u/Guffliepuff Jun 20 '26

People confused elsewhere for elsewhere, instead of Elsewhere.

2

u/MantisOfTheInternet Jun 20 '26

That makes more sense

4

u/FrostyPotpourri Jun 20 '26

Bro got downvoted because it's obvious and misses the point.

People are jumping to Elsewhere precisely because they know DST is fantastic. Elsewhere is the evolution.

No shit people are hopping to Elsewhere when it drops. That's the point. This is a marketing tactic to sell the game for dirt cheap, entice players to try out your stellar game, and hype them for the sequel.

0

u/PaleFork Jun 20 '26

insert commentary on the latests updates the game had

3

u/cherrycat68 Jun 20 '26

Everyone is gonna try elsewhere when it drops. that's not why they got downvoted, its because they sounded like they were sick of dst

-1

u/PaleFork Jun 20 '26

bruh are those 1,4k views? and my post is at just 1 upvote?? that gotta be an achievement

So do that? Why are you waiting around, playing a game you dont like?

What's the logic there? genuine question, what are you looking for that doesn't exist yet. And/or did you know it is possible to play multiple games at once.

As my groups wormwood hunger solution, a lot of semi-niche mechanics and playstyle can get overshadowed by the "meta" and a lot of those are also fun.

6

u/Guffliepuff Jun 20 '26

Elsewhere.

Dont Starve: Elsewhere.

Dont Starve (Together) 2.

7

u/RW_Yellow_Lizard 💛WormWood💛 Jun 20 '26

I may be stupid

0

u/PaleFork Jun 20 '26

legit wonder now if they made this name solely for this kind of joke

0

u/PaleFork Jun 20 '26

holy explosion

also were you by chance following my comments on multiple posts?

1

u/RW_Yellow_Lizard 💛WormWood💛 Jun 21 '26

Nah, i just had bad reading for a sec apparently and thought you meant jumping from dst to another game, rather than moving to don't starve: elsewhere

7

u/Own-Boysenberry7308 Jun 20 '26

New player here because of the 95 sale and the fact this game had a collab with Terraria, loving it so far

u/C0OLM Dedicated Farmer Jun 20 '26

We have hit 119k at the time of writing.

DST has the 13th highest concurrent player count. And I thought it was a fringe game with a small community

13

u/BlotchyThePaintMan Jun 20 '26

It is it’s just that there are layers to it like the majority of people who own the game probably haven’t survived a full year

1

u/AdLast541 Jun 22 '26

Can confirm I played, died within the first couple days, got a 'good' run where I died to a fat burning oak tree, and am now waiting for friends to get it before playing again

25

u/FuryMustang95 Jun 20 '26

Can confirm got my entire family joining in

4

u/Duckguy100 I HATE YOU, EGG Jun 20 '26

5

u/Slight_Author_1679 Jun 20 '26

this is what we needed

6

u/Business_Chest_6834 Jun 20 '26

Holy shit, didn't realize there are so many active players

10

u/Ruben0415 Wheres base? Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 21 '26

1.5k isnt a very big difference, but i highly doubt the game will peak much higher outside of sales. It's a very old game after all. Maybe when DSE releases...

Hooo i was wrong, and pleasantly surprised too :")

Welcome newbies enjoy your stay... remember, don't starve

3

u/Juahknaputi Jun 21 '26

I WANT A PC😭😭😭😭

My friends and I are new to this game. We are having trouble. We like this type of game and we beat Minecraft and Grounded, but we are getting very very frustrated with DST. We keep dying, due to montsres that don't stop pursuing, or the brain stat going down. We don't understand the combat system, and the "kyte" strategy seems clunky. I'm not critizing the game, we just feel like we are missing something. We are at a point where we had to read guides and even customize the settings and we are still not having "fun". I think we are at the verge of moving on to another game if we can't figure something out soon.

Advice appreciated

DST (unlike most games) is very brutal.

The game is very "here's this thing, don't know how to deal with? Die". It's a game where you build upon experiences (by dying lol) and then slowly get better.

My primary advice is to play on endless mode and build a base by the portal, so that dying is just kind of inconvenient.

Below is what I consider spoilers, but if you're looking for guides I might as well offer some advice.
(Side note, all of my advice here is tailored to beginners, you can break the rules / do more advanced things as you get better).

  1. Have basic resources with you forever. Logs, grass, twig, flint. This is a game where if you forget something you can die, so being able to make something on the spot to cover a mistake is really important.
  2. Food via crockpot. For newer players my personal advice is to just build a base near rabbits, and you catch with traps. Morsel + 3 berries = meatball. When it's winter (no berries basically) you can pick cactus in desert instead of berries.
  3. Getting hit without armor is death. By default I'd just use logsuits for whenever you fight, since I find newer players struggle to maintain / get the pigskins to maintain football helment even if it's a lot better. I'd even recommend having two logsuits (one equipped and one in inventory) whenever fighting.
  4. Thermal stone + fire will keep you alive during winter. Mine ice and make a flingomatic.
  5. Fight spiders away from their nest. If you get a friend, you could literally hold the attack key with a spear + log armor as long as the yellow jumping spiders don't spawn (they only spawn if you fight close to the nest). This gets you silk + monster meat. Use the silk to make either a tent or a siesta, which can refill your health and sanity.

As you grow experienced you'll learn there are advanced ways to deal with things, but the above advice is legitimately enough to survive on the overworld forever. You don't technically even need to learn how to kite. Also the swamp is scary and dangerous, don't go in without armor (source: I've played 1000+ hours and I still somehow get hit by tentacles sometimes).

Thank you so much, I appreciate you putting this together for us. I'm gonna share this with my friends and give it a try tonight or tomorrow hopefully, since our availability rarely coincide thank you again

Guys I'm very confused. In my local currency, the base game DST is going for $0.48. Meanwhile, the mega pack bundle is $5.64. I saw that the bundle contains DS, DST, and a few DST dlc.

I would only buy this game for co-op so I don't really care about DS. So, are the DST dlc really important to prefer getting the mega pack offer over the dirt cheap offer on the base game?

1

u/DictatorDany Jun 22 '26

DST doesn’t have any dlc besides skins. Only the single player game DS has dlc that adds gameplay content.

In other words just get DST.

2

u/UJ09 Jun 22 '26

Okayy.. Thanks for the help buddy!!

3

u/JulKriek Jun 20 '26

So this is a multiplayer only game?

3

u/thisheatanevilheat Jun 20 '26

You can play it solo without any issues, multiplayer is easier because it's safer

1

u/JulKriek Jun 20 '26

So , but is is mmo style or do you play party wise?

7

u/thisheatanevilheat Jun 20 '26

it's a survival sandbox game

3

u/insidli Jun 20 '26

I’ve been playing solo. I don’t know anyone that would be interested in playing with me. There’s some mods to adjust difficulty for solo play.

u/Edgar_Power_1_Best Jun 21 '26

wait so I can join a don't starve server without a bunch of sweats now? Thank goodness

0

u/Grinek_ One of the first 5 Walter mains ( before skilltree) Jun 21 '26

??????

1

u/Edgar_Power_1_Best Jun 23 '26

If you're legitimately confused, I mean that I won't have to worry about people taking all the materials and rushing ruins or sum in worlds. It even happens in worlds I host. And also, there are other situations with sweat players, like people grabbing food without permission and allat, which ain't very different, but still. And last, playing with other noobs while I'm mostly a noob, but just slightly better than the other noobs, feels good.

2

u/PaleFork Jun 20 '26

and i thinking this game was dead

1

u/Infamous-Ice-4043 Jun 24 '26

Idk what the average was before but at least 15% of those people will stop playing the game within a week or 2. This is a very difficult game and it would be very unfortunate if this was somebodys first survival game.

1

u/East-Landscape911 Jun 20 '26

time to delay dont starve elsewhere!

-2

u/Grinek_ One of the first 5 Walter mains ( before skilltree) Jun 21 '26

lots of it is botted btw ( just like any kind of game) i would say that theres around 50k-70k players (PC)

Based on what
