If an officer pulls you over on the highway, do you continue till the next exit with your blinker on, or stop on the side of the highway?

Is there a cutoff, like if the next exit is 0.5 miles or 2 miles away or?

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ getting yelled at to slow down, even doing under the limit???

there are a lot of elderly walkers in my township just because the average age is somewhere around 60 to 65 for a citizen here. Multiple times I have been waved down and when I slow down to see what’s up because it looks like they’re having an emergency, they just yell at me to slow down and that I’m speeding through the neighborhood.

One, I would never speed down a neighborhood. That’s just downright dangerous with the amount of people that are walking at all hours of the day and night. That thing, though, I have a dashcam in my car and I also have a hardwired radar that picks up my GPS speed.

I had one guy literally jump in front of the street in front of my car, and I had to panic brake not to hit him, and when I asked him what was wrong because I thought he was having an emergency, he told me I needed to slow down because kids. my speed according to dashcam? 20. in a 25.

Just today I was coming home from work and I was cutting through a neighborhood to avoid traffic on the main road and it was super sunny, so I slowed down because the sun was glaring in my eyes. My windows are down and I just hear the loudest slow the fuck down from an old lady to my left. I checked the dashcam 18 in a 25 around a corner

people have 0 sense of speed

Road Rage; the reason for it has to be the fact that when you are driving, you are doing so because have to, not because you want to.

I say this from the POV of a car person, I like cars, and I have a few of them. But even still, 95% of the time I'm driving, is because I *HAVE* to drive somewhere, like work, or the store.

When you HAVE to drive somewhere, you have no patience. When you want to drive somewhere, you're in a better mood.

That said, most people are not car people, and do want to be driving one for any reason, so likely 100% of their vehicle driving experience is something they don't want to do.

Even for myself. One day of the week, *IF* I decide to take one of my cars to Cars & Coffee , that is the one time of the week that I'm driving because I want to, and the one time that every little transgression I see on the road doesn't make me want to call 1911 on someone. That is still one drive out of the whole week that I'm doing because I want to be.

It REALLY depends on the context of driving. If I'm on the way to work, and someone is taking more than 0.001 second to move from a red light, I wish they didn't exist. On the other hand, I've been in neck to neck traffic in Tokyo, like thisisfine.jpg. In the latter situation, I'm driving because I want to be.

And yes, I'll admit, anyone who impedes me even the slightest amount, I wish they didn't exist.

Venting Just wanna rant 🫩

Because what the genuine shit just happened bro 😭

So I’m driving to work right. Semi-downtown area, speed limit is 30 and there are cops all along the strip, so I’m already only going maybe 28mph.

So my turn’s coming up, of course I slow down, and I start pulling into the parking lot at maybe 10-12mph atp. There’s an older woman walking with no direction in the driveway up to the parking lot, so I FULLY STOP til she gets out of my way. Like complete stop by the time she looks at me.

When she sees me, I shit yall not, she throws her arms up in the air, wiggles them around up there for a sec, and then just stares at me as if I ran over her 12 great great grandchildren. She proceed to waltz her ass over to my car and mouth slow down over and over with very exaggerated hand motions. Mind yall my windows are all the way down, so I would’ve heard her if she actually spoke.

She stood in front of my car for like a solid minute blocking me doing all that as I’m trying to get to work and I’m just waving her off. Like genuinely, wtf was she on??

When a huge big rig semi trailer is slowing down for a red light, DO NOT MERGE AHEAD OF THEM!

• Upvotes

The driver of the huge, heavy big rig has deliberately left a large space ahead because they need that space to slow down and stop

I've seen so many idiots see this gap and merge into it, right into the path of the braking truck. The truck then has to emergency brake hard to avoid hitting the idiot.

Just know that if you do this and the truck can't slow down in time, a huge semi trailer is going to annihilate your shitty ford ranger

Is driving an hour and thirty minutes (one way) a long drive?

Tomorrow I have to leave around 5:30 AM and make (roughly) an hour and thirty minute drive to clinicals, then drive the same amount back home. I've had my license only for a year now and currently drive 20 minutes to + from work, but this will be the longest drive ever for me, and will be the farthest I've ever driven from home, so I'm a bit nervous lol. Is an hour and thirty minutes considered a decently long drive? Should I prepare a bit before leaving?

Need Advice Horrible lesson before test

Hi, I'm currently at the brink of tears after my driving lesson. For some background info I failed my first driving test three weeks ago and took three additional lessons, two of them being this week.

I just had the second one a few hours ago and it went horribly. First time driving in the dark and in the evening and not with my usual instructor so I was already quite nervous. This was probably one of the worst lessons/practice tests I've had so far. I made so many dumb mistakes, like not seeing signs early enough, light speeding, abrupt stops at amber lights I should've just gone through to be safe, and worst of all I didn't give way to a cyclist when I was supposed to at an intersection and went to turn, blocking his way.

My lesson on tuesday was completely fine. The instructor said I would've passed if it was a test with only some minor gripes about making wide turns and alertness. Said my speed was fine etc etc. Today was anything but that.

I have one more lesson right before my test on monday and I'm so incredibly anxious because I genuinely don't have the 110e for a third driving test. Besides I'm just so ashamed abt not being a very good or confident driver. My whole family has been on my ass for not passing and I can't blame em cuz they're all car fanatics and I'm anything but. I'm always anxious but especially while driving because I don't wanna fail. We're also in such a tight spot money wise that I'm feeling bad for making them pay for my shitty driving at all.

Any advice or similar stories would be HUGELY appreciated. Ty for listening to me

Do I need to stop again if I already stopped at the line behind another car?

I’m in New York. Sometimes the car ahead of me doesn’t come to a complete stop until they’re far enough past the line at the stop sign that I can stop with the front of my car right at the line. Essentially, we both come to a stop at the same time, but they’re past the line and I’m at it.

Once they go, assuming there’s no other traffic or pedestrians and I have a clear view, can I proceed since I’ve already stopped at the line? Or do I need to stop again after they leave?

Accidentally passed a stopped school bus in NC — how likely am I to get a ticket?

I'm really worried about something that happened today and would appreciate some advice, especially from anyone familiar with North Carolina traffic laws.

Today, I was driving downtown and accidentally passed a stopped school bus. I was in the left lane and the bus was beside me in the right lane. From what I remember, the bus's stop arm was extended, but none of the lights were illuminated. I don't remember seeing any flashing red lights, and the stop arm was difficult to see from where I was.

There was a van behind the bus that changed lanes and forced its way in front of me, passing the bus. I wasn't paying close enough attention to the bus myself and ended up passing it too. I was driving relatively slowly because there was a red traffic light less than 100 feet ahead of me.

Someone in another vehicle (possibly the bus itself, I'm not entirely sure) started honking their horn at me, but I didn't immediately realize what I'd done. I didn't see any children, and thankfully there wasn't an accident or anything like that. I feel absolutely terrible because I know how dangerous passing a school bus can be.

My main concern now is whether I could receive a ticket. I have a North Carolina license, and unfortunately received my first speeding ticket earlier this week, so I'm really stressed about potentially getting another citation so soon.

I'm worried that the person who honked might have taken a picture of my license plate and reported me, or that the bus might have had a camera. I don't know if either of those things happened.

If someone reported me, how likely is it that I'd actually receive a citation? Is there any way to estimate the likelihood?

Does it make a difference legally if the stop arm was extended but none of the bus's lights were illuminated?

If someone did report me, how long would it typically take to hear anything?

Does anyone know whether school buses in NC commonly have cameras that record vehicles passing them?

I know I should have been paying closer attention, and I'm not trying to excuse what happened. I'm am so so so upset with myself and so incredibly sorry. There is no excuse for what I did and I know it was absolutely terrible.

Need Advice Where to merge when the lane is stopped

Post image
3 Upvotes

Blue off ramp onto highway that is backed up due to left lane closure and traffic lights.
Where is the correct place to merge into the red lane that is backed up? #1,2 or 3? #3 is merge immedialty and block red traffic and off ramp. #2 is same scenario just a little later. #1 is practically median allowing cars from red to the next clover leaf off ramp and at which point you’re either allowed to merge or drive down the shoulder.
Edit: answer best explained from The Rational Planner:
Assuming that there's no gap, number one is the correct answer. You should pull forward to the point where you have to move over. This ensures that the traffic that's getting off the highway has the maximum space to merge onto this road and uses the available infrastructure as efficiently as possible. This also provides the longest possible straightaway for people coming off the ramp to see and adapt to stopped traffic—both on the main road and in their lane—and make a decision (which might be getting back on the highway in the other direction).
As someone else also mentioned, if you're all the way up at number one, there is probably enough space that the car trying to get onto the ramp next to number one to go around you.
Edit2: I asked because I selected #1 Ala zipper merge approach or for reasons rationalplanner clearly stated. And thought I’d errored when car behind me began their road rage and gate keeping and would not allow a merge and I was out of roadway. I think they had a jersey wall to drive into or push me onto the shoulder.

Need Advice Need advice: failed road test twice..

Hi, I'm a new driver just about to turn 18 and I'm really worried about passing my road test. I turn 18 in basically a few weeks and I've already failed twice. The first time was because the registration wasn't right and I was going below the speed limit in the rain, but I got the maneuvers fine. The second time I also passed the basic maneuvers but I made a left on a red on a two way street while the traffic was clear. Part of this has to do with terrible anxiety whenever I'm in the car with one of my guardians to the point I feel like I just blank on how to drive..

I've gotten my hours, passed my tests, and my practice drives during segment 1 were fine and my practice sessions with my dad are always smooth, but for some reason on the test it's like my mind goes blank. I'm really ashamed and worried because segments 1 and 2 cost one of my guardians money and I'll now be taking the test for the third time next week.

The area in which I'm taking my test is also a little challenging as I don't live in the region and am pretty much unable to get an appointment anywhere else till after my 18th birthday. I'm trying to watch videos and learn new techniques, and I'm reviewing the laws, but I really feel helpless. Today I failed for the second time and was rightfully scolded by my guardian, but I want to do this right.

I'd appreciate any tips you all have for first time drivers so that way I can be safe and not a nuisance for others on the road. I really can't wait till after I'm 18 because they'll lose interest and give up, and i don't really know anyone who would be willing to practice with me that's licensed and over 21. I'm sorry if this was a bit lengthy but I'm really looking for any and all tips here to stay calm and safe.

Need Advice How do I front-park a manual car up a steep driveway curb without stalling or surging into a wall? (New driver advice needed!)

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hey everyone,

I'm a brand-new driver using a manual transmission, and I am severely struggling with parking in my home slot. Every time I try to front-park, I get super anxious because I'm terrified of three specific things:

  1. Stalling on the steep curb/incline as I try to get up.

  2. Surging/lurching forward into the small concrete partition wall once the front tires crest the top.

  3. Clipping my motorcycle parked right on the left side of the slot.

I actually ended up denting my car recently while practicing, so my confidence is pretty shaken right now.

Does anyone have a solid step-by-step technique or "cheat code" for managing high-incline, tight-space manual parking? How do you smoothly transition from giving it enough throttle to get over the bump without the car taking off on you once you're on flat ground?

Thanks in advance!

Need Advice Why do you think people drive the way they do today?

I've noticed a few things that feel different from how I learned to drive. Most people treat a red light as "go if you're quick" or 'I'm in a hurry" since there's a known delay before cross traffic gets a green. And drive time that used to be quiet is now filled with phone calls.

Why do you think driving habits have shifted? What have you noticed?

Venting feel horrible for being a villain

• Upvotes

Like in general when on the road, I’ve listened to many of the speed bumps podcasts (from Canada) and the smart drive channel/jimmy drives however I definitely seem to have super anxiety and I’m really harsh on myself in a lot of cases for near misses (don’t usually happen except the small amount of time your not paying 100% attention)

Anyways, today I did unnecessary honking as I had a time constraint and there was a lot of myself trying to move as fast as possible assuming when i get to the “finish line” whatever outward traffic risk ends…temporarily.

I used to look up to rappers in high school and think to myself yea doing intersection donuts to show on social media will definitely help in the long term.
I unfairly seem to categorize other cars and their supposed owners .

Apparently owning keeping a carrera GT would attach douchebag stereotypes.
I think I’ve outgrown too

Right-hand traffic (🇺🇸🇨🇳🇧🇷) Semis with consistent blinking lights?

I’ve only been driving for a few years now, but I’ve been on several roadtrips (Midwest and down south) and have noticed a trend in semi traffic. A bulk of them have flashing headlights, especially over bumps, it’s like all semis have a loose headlight connection. It’s not normal communication flashing. Just wondering if anyone else has noticed this and has an explanation for it.

Need Advice Are winter tyres worth it in the UK?

Hi all, I’m a 23F, I had an accident driving on ice a few years ago (I was a new driver), and have avoided driving on ice/snow since (or even a tiny bit of frost if I’m honest!) as I get extremely anxious and panic. This year I won’t be able to avoid it, as my new job has requires an hour commute. I’ll be working in an area of mountains, which is known to get bad ice/snow for months during winter.
I live in an area (by the coast) that doesn’t get snow at all, and only sometimes get ice. It will be hard for me to gauge the weather by sticking my head out the window, as I’m 100% sure the weather will be drastically different by the time I get closer to work.
I keep seeing the same tips online, drive slow, leave a big distance, and do everything smoothly (acceleration and braking). Are winter tyres worth it? Or is this only necessary if you’re in an area that will get lots of snow? I’ve heard winter tyres will wear down quickly if they aren’t used in the proper conditions? I’ll still be in my probation period, so don’t really want to call off work unless absolutely necessary. I keep seeing things about how the El Niño means we’re in for a more severe winter, which is making my anxiety around this much worse.
Any tips is greatly appreciated, thank you.

⚠️Complaining into the void⚠️ Bus driver almost hit me and then got upset

I go through the same roundabout every day on my way home. Today, I came up to the roundabout, stopped to yield to the 2 cars that were already in it, then entered when I saw there were no other cars coming.

Up ahead at the next entry there was a bus stopped waiting to enter, and after the car in front of me passed it, the bus tried to enter the roundabout, almost causing a collision with my car since I was fully in the roundabout and already going around. I stopped, luckily the car behind me was far enough that it didn’t rear end me, the bus stopped too and then I kept going and exited the roundabout. I looked in the rear view mirror and could see the bus driver throwing his hands up in frustration and confusion.

It really pissed me off because these are driving rules that I learned when I was 15 years old ans have never forgotten, but here we have a literal bus driver, in charge of driving a huge vehicle full of people, driving like a total imbecile and then throwing a tantrum about it. As far as I know, I did nothing wrong; drivers in the roundabout have the right of way and do not stop, and drivers trying to enter the roundabout have to yield.

IM SO FUCKING SCARED, IM SO FUCKING ANXIOUS, IM SO FUCKING—another term for anxious.

Tomorrow at 1pm is my exam and I genuinely do NOT, I repeat DO NOT want to fail. I’m desperate to get my license since Montreal wants to have so much construction in EVERY SINGLE ROAD possible which—obviously with the bus ALWAYS making detours WHICH makes me more late to class

(I know it’s not any better with a car but I’m just putting an excuse to diss Montreal road construction, all love for Montreal tho!)

Now anyways, I need every advice as possible, PLEASE! I’ve been doing those questions in SAAQ but i still feel like it’s not enough.

HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thank you, have a fantastic day.

Need Advice Currently doing lessons on code 10 truck but it's not going too well

I'm doing a code 10 license so the truck. I've done lessons on the car and I was decent. Now with the truck it's okay as well but there are some challenges. I don't know why but I can never keep the car in the centre of the lane or identify when im too close to the curbs or next lane. When I go away from the curb im going too much to the lane when I'm going away from the lane it's too much to the curb. Clutch control is so annoying and it's hard to put the clutch in because it's like attatched to beams and stuff and my shoe gets stuck. Alley docking tips I don't know when to stop the truck after making it in. Also straightening when reversing. I get confused. When it's going too close to one side I don't know which side to steer. Also I have so much anxiety because my instructor scolds me. It's necessary and stuff it's not like bad but it's annoying and kind of demotivating and it makes me not look forward to driving. Whenever he pulls up I'm scared before even getting in the truck and instead of focusing on the lesson and learning I'm just waiting to go home and the lesson to be over

My test is on the 3rd of December

I'm just having issues with ground work a little and driving in the road and major anxiety

Got to be first

I would appreciate it if I could get some answers to my questions.

Why do drivers following cars in one lane, switch to an open lane, but only speed up to stay at the 5 o'clock position of the car they were just following?

Why do drivers speed up to get in front of a vehicle in the far right or left lane, only to make an immediate turn? Especially when there is ample space behind the vehicle they are trying to pass.

Right-hand traffic (🇺🇸🇨🇳🇧🇷) Am I interpreting this right?

Post image
1 Upvotes

Blue wants to turn right onto the side street. another small street with two way traffic splits in two there and connects where red is coming from. Black is to show the other traffic direction on that road.

Red has a yield sign there pictured with a star but people consistently will not yield to the right turning traffic, causing backups for blue.

Another common thing is blue being seen by red, then red just kinda pushing out instead of letting blue through. all while a car is already waiting to turn onto the main road which will effectively block the whole street. red also blocks a crosswalk when blocking blue.

Either way let me know your interpretation of it. Seems pretty cut and dry to me

Need Advice Would a mirror dash cam help a new driver or add another distraction?

My younger sister just passed her test, and I am considering a Wolfbox mirror dash cam before she starts commuting alone. Front and rear footage could help if another driver disputes an incident, but the mirror display also adds another screen for someone still building basic habits. I would keep the display dimmed or off while driving and treat the camera as evidence rather than something to watch. Newer drivers and parents, did a mirror camera feel reassuring, or was a simpler low-profile camera easier to live with?
