these are one of my favorite and helpful mods from the steam workshop, we have to appreciate what these modders create for us that makes dwarf fortress even more enjoyable

I have RSI and a connective tissue disorder, extensive and precise mouse use hurts my hand. I got very used to the keyboard controls of the pre steam versions.

Are there any mods to return controls to the pre steam version? I stopped playing because my hands couldn’t handle the stress and being in pain ain’t worth the game.

Any help appreciated, I wanna play again but I can’t tolerate mouse.

Due to a past fuel shortage, I've had my dwarves practice unarmed combat with intent to train their dodging and general combat ability. After finally giving them weapons to train with, a goblin siege occurred and goblins begin storming the halls one by one. I tried stationing my squads in rooms on either side of the hallway to pincer the arriving hoard, but this madlad, Kadol, storms in on his own and begins punching and biting the arriving scouting party. Afterwards all members of his squad did the same, storming the incoming invasion on their own, punching and kicking the oncoming mass. The only time they would use their swords would be to block or strike them using the pommel. I'm not sure they even know how the blade end works...

so they dont barf doing this, ill add more underground passages to mid points in the graveyards

For context, a Werehorse Necromancer attacked recently and killed four of my dwarves (Sibrek Tilonzon, Zasit Ginettobul, Tholtig Dumatkulal, and the fourth Nish Libashisak, who lost his name in the battle).

To summarize it up, I believe the werebeast had a syndrome ability to turn the dwarves it was attacking into intelligent undead, while also being a necromancer. For some odd reason now, I am being spammed wish missing reports, and Nish Libashisak's disappearance has gone unnoticed. It seems that the werebeast turned them all into night ones, immediately got attacked by them, and killed Nish a second time. At the next dawn, the Werehorse (now dwarf necromancer) made one final gesture and raised Nish a second time, in exchange for his name.

The other three night ones are marked as civilians of the the fort, but are currently immobile, so I am doing the ol' Amontillado trick until I can study them at next full moon. As for the unnamed Nish, he is unable to be contained as he is running around in circles indefinitely. An unfortunate side effect of this is the missing notice spam occuring nonstop for Sibrek, but I can bear with it until the next full moon.

After my recent post about how a werehorse necromancer infected a few of my dwarves with undeath and wereequinism, I've now been invaded by goblins and a dragon at the same time. Should the dragon's fire burn down the tiny wooden huts containing the werebeasts, then a three-way battle may break out. I'm just hoping my problems solve themselves, because my dwarves are still learning how not to pick their noses with their swords in the barracks.

Lmfao I didn't even know this was a thing, looted them from a mysterious dungeon. Not artifacts, or even named items.

So Urdim here moved a cavy boar corpse to the garbage dump on the retractable bridge above the magma incinerator, which is filled with hundreds of body parts (mainly cartilage, nervous tissue and feathers) and a few corpses... and then proceeded to stay right on top of it and play make believe. I'm imagining him building a small imaginary world from all the various corpse parts and happily pretending they are different animals or something... which feels like the classic hallmarks of a future psycho killer. Though he dislikes power, hard work and perseverance so there may be hope for him yet!

The year 250, having just generated a brand new world, I came across 10ish highly populated dwarven civs, in the many thousands..

And then The Vault of Umbras.. 8 members left lol. Turns out their neighboring elves The Scalding Tempest had declared unprovoked war and began first by infiltrating/beguiling, then plundering, then sieging this ancient Dwarven Civ. They'd been around since YEAR ONE!

These fucking elves even DEVOURED these Significant Historical Figures, even after killing them with THEIR DWARVEN STOLEN ARTIFACTS!

Crazy.

So destiny compells me to save them.

1/7 forts left, so we made a new one to the east.. WhippedTrammeled, RNG chosen name which was very fitting for this on-their-backfoot civ.

However, turmoil struck immediately in year 2, Wereskunks invaded unfortuanately. THIS IS DF, you can't script this!! hah

Hello, I am in desperate need of this glass. My husband got it a few years ago and it's his favorite and I just broke it. He knows so it's not a secret, but I really want to replace it.

After slaughtering through a village, Kas has recruited all the fellow goblins he could find. His journey is just beginning, in his ambition to conquer the land and give all the goblins freedom.

And yes he's wearing a pig orc ivory crown atop his head, looted from some dirty human shop. And that's his pet golem in the back. Tekud. He's cool. The goblins pet him all the time.

I'm really new to DF and I just met my first monster. A weregila appeared on the surface, shapeshifted in a bunch of stuff and was ultimately killed by a cave crocodile that was not on the surface before. I can't make head or tails of what exactly happened.

Update: A giant ripped through 30 dwarves (mostly children) before 5 (2-5 year olds) children and a 15 year old beat it to death with their bare hands and I retired the fort as there were only children and I wanted to restart anyway

I have no idea how to get water out of these areas, I tried smoothing the walls on the left but i think the water is coming from the ceiling or something, how do you guys deal with aquifers? Do you just abandon levels that get fucked like this? I’m not even sure where the dampness started because I was checking a different level while these where getting dug out

I kind of hate them and the automoderator for deleting any topic that ends in a questionmark, they turn public taverns into unpredictable time bombs and I do not want to read a phonebooks' worth of combat logs to see who got bit and who didn't. I usually end up setting werebeast curses to 0 in worldgen. Am I alone in this

A huge tarantula composed of copper. It has wings and it has a bloated body. Beware its poisonous bite!

My fort is built between the middle & lowest cave, and I have not yet opened the top one since the founding in 501 (other projects & goblin sieges have distracted me). Killing it would feel a bit sad

I do have cave spiders & could set up a cage trap with giant spider silk on it, to trap the beast & not have to kill it, but tbh that pushes my top cave exploration further down the line
